In order to try-out you must meet these requirements and bring in all paperwork to the tryouts on Monday, April 23rd. 1. You must have at least a 2.0 overall GPA. 2. You must be willing to commit to all practices, games, and fundraisers. Other activities will NOT be an excuse to miss games or practices. 3. You must purchase certain items. If you meet all 3 requirements, please fill out the appropriate forms and bring all forms to the tryouts on Monday, April 23rd. You will not be able to try-out if all of the forms are not completed.
Tryout Procedures Try-out Procedures: Candidates who will be in the 7 th or 8 th grade in the fall will be eligible to try out for the middle school cheerleading squad. Cheerleaders will be placed on the HMS squad based on overall tryout score. The Hampton Middle School Squad is made up of 7 th and 8 th grade students. Any student who is currently in 6 th or 7 th grade is eligible to try out. The coaching staff will determine the maximum number of girls each squad is accepting. Judging: Impartial judges who are Hampton cheer coaches will issue scores for all girls trying out. The scores will be tallied, recorded and double-checked before squads are determined and results are posted. Vacancy: Permanent vacancies may be filled at the coach s discretion. The coach will use the try-out scores, need, and improvement to fill the vacancy.

Permission Slip Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s): Your child has shown a desire to become a member of the Hampton Cheerleading Squad. If she is selected, there are certain responsibilities and obligations which she must assume in order to qualify and remain a member of the squad. The following is a listing of those responsibilities and obligations: 1. Attend ALL practices and events 2. Attend summer camps, if one is scheduled (they range from $150-$200) 3. Purchase personal accessories that stay with the cheerleader (warm ups, shoes, socks, body suit, kick pants, jacket, bag,t-shirts, Sweatshirts) ($100-$200) 4. Adhere to the district s Academic Requirements 5. Adhere to the district s Code of Conduct and Student Handbook 6. Abide faithfully to the Cheerleading constitution Failure to adhere to all of the stated responsibilities and obligations could result in suspension or dismissal from the squad. Hampton Middle School Cheerleading Expectations (Keep for your records)
Academics and Behavior Cheerleaders are expected to maintain high standards in academic performance and behavior and to serve as positive role models for the student body. Cheerleaders who do not meet these standards are subject to school disciplinary consequences and cheerleading consequences including suspension and dismissal. Cheerleaders must exhibit appropriate conduct in the classroom, other school and community settings. Time Commitments Cheerleading is a time-consuming activity and it is the responsibility of each cheerleader to be present at each activity and perform to the best of his/her ability. Everyone must share equally in the behind the scenes work, as well as the cheering before the crowd. Since cheerleading is a team activity, loyalty and dedication to the team is a key ingredient in gaining the most valuable elements from the association. Cheerleading Activities: Attend scheduled practices Attend middle school football and basketball home games according to the district calendar Participate in pep rallies as scheduled by administration Attend summer camp for four days during the month of August Support designated fund-raising activities Complete and submit a physical packet to the HHS Athletics Office which is due Friday, August 4. All cheerleaders are required to register online at www.familyid.com/hampton-township-school-district-athletics. (You will not be permitted to practice, attend camp, or cheer until this is completed). School Year Practice Cheerleading practice dates and times are specified by the cheerleading coaches. Practices occur after school. Cheerleaders must have confirmed transportation to and from practice. Attendance: Attendance at assigned events is required of cheerleaders. If a cheerleader is unable to attend an assigned activity, the cheerleading coaches must be notified in advance of the absence by email, phone call or written note from a parent or guardian. Practice Procedures: Practices will be held after school at scheduled times. All girls must wear proper attire to practice. Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail, including bangs, at all times. Group stretching and warm-up will begin promptly after mats are set up. Any student with a D in any class will not be permitted to practice. She will spend scheduled practice time doing homework or studying to improve the grade.
Behavior not tolerated resulting in immediate removal from squad: 1. Vandalism: anywhere 2. Physical altercations: any kind 3. Bullying of any kind 4. Disrespect towards coaches, teammates, faculty, staff, or opposing teams at any time. This includes any internet activity that could potentially embarrass or demoralize yourself, your squad members, or your coaches. 5.
