LBMS Cheer Program Summary This tryout packet contains information pertaining to the 2017-2018 Luther Middle School Cheerleading Program. The LBMS Cheer Team is made up of dedicated and enthusiastic athletes. Athletes must be willing to devote a significant amount of time to be part of a program that strives to be their best at home, at school, and on the cheer mat. Coach Jenn has extensive experience coaching cheerleading, she is dedicated to excellence, both athletic and academic. Your child s education and cheer experience is of the utmost importance to her, and she is dedicated to helping your child have a successful middle school career. The 2017-2018 cheerleading program will consist of one Show Cheer Competition team. The size of the team depends on the talent level presented at tryouts. The objective of the Luther Burbank Middle School cheerleading squad is to effectively execute a school spirit program that supports and promotes Luther Burbank Middle School. The Cheerleaders will serve as positive role models and leaders for LBMS and should promote sportsmanship within our school and among other schools at competitions. The highest priority should be to display and encourage spirit and pride for LBMS.

LMBS Cheerleading Attendance Guidelines Cheerleading is a unique sport, wherein the absence of one team member affects the entire squad. Absences may lead to loss of participation, and ultimately dismissal from the squad. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of attendance. Planning family activities/vacations around our season is important. * Each squad member is expected to be present at all practices, fundraisers, and competitions. You will be excused only if you are absent from school due to an illness or a family emergency. If you are injured, you are still expected to attend practice, even if that means you can only watch. All appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) should be scheduled outside of practice. Monthly practice schedules will be available. If you miss a practice due to an illness or family emergency, you are responsible for learning the material taught at that practice before the next practice. *Competitions are typically on weekends and are planned to be scheduled as follows: One in December, Two to Four in January and February, and One in March. This is tentative and subject to change. Please note we are usually scheduled to attend a showcase or competition on the President s Weekend in February. Please do not schedule to be out of town. *At times, if enough notice is given, squad members may be excused for other LBMS activities. This is at the coach s discretion. If you are excused from a practice you are responsible for learning the material taught at that practice before the next practice. * You are expected to be in the gym, dressed and ready to go at the scheduled practice or meeting time. *Two unexcused absences are considered a warning; the third unexcused absence will result in the athlete sitting out for one squad event in full uniform. After the third absence it is up to the coach and faculty advisor if athlete is to remain on the team. Cheerleader Signature Date Parent Signature Date

LBMS Estimated Costs Estimated Costs Uniforms are ordered from Varsity Spirit Fashion, the leading cheer apparel company. There will be fundraising opportunities to reduce the costs; however cheerleading is an expensive sport. This is an optional extracurricular activity and the uniform, competitions, choreography and supplies are all paid for by the organization. School funding is not used for these activities. Fundraising and parent support are important, which is why all cheerleaders need to participate. Donation requests and fundraisers will be implemented to help offset the cost to the program. There will also be options for cheerleaders who would like to borrow a uniform. This means that the team will buy a uniform that is not personalized and they cheerleader will return it at the end of the season. Please discuss with the faculty advisor if you are interested in fundraising options to support the overall cost to the program. We do not discriminate for financial reasons. Uniform Mandatory: shell, skirt, bow, shoes, jacket Optional: backpack, warm up pants Anticipated Costs Per Participant Subject to change $455.00 $565.00 Fundraising options are available if you wish to purchase and personalize the uniform Choreography / Music $140.00 Donations requested Competitions $75.00 Donations requested Practice wear & Miscellaneous items (poms, signs, other squad needs) $140 Donations requested Tumbling Classes $64.50 Optional Class offered through Fun N Fit Gymnastics Nationals $100.00 Donations requested Parent Signature Date

All coaches and captains are to be given respect and cooperation by cheerleaders and parents at all times. Any cheerleader leaving the squad or being asked to leave for ANY reason before the end of the season, will forfeit ALL money. Practices Squads will have practices each week. A tentative schedule will be given out at the beginning of each month. Cheerleaders are expected to come to ALL PRACTICES, and other schedules should revolve around cheerleading practices. Additional practices may be added when needed. During Practice season, practices are usually held on Tuesdays 2:30-5:30 and Thursdays 3:30-5:30.
