The 5-11 libero has 1,919 digs in her four seasons while the Wisconsin record is 1,920 digs held by Susan Wohlford from 1988-91. Wisconsin extended its winning streak to 13 matches with two wins on the road last weekend. The Badgers have won 11 straight Big Ten matches, dating back to last season. The first NCAA RPI of the season came out last Friday with Wisconsin ranked sixth. Stanford leads the mid-season ranking while Nebraska is second. UCLA, Penn State and Southern Cal round out the top five. Among Big Ten teams, Michigan (9th), Minnesota (11th), Purdue (19th) and Indiana (22nd) are in the top 25. The Badgers will do their part to Spike Cancer when they host secondranked Penn State on Sunday. Wisconsin will join with American Transmission Company (ATC), Coca-Cola and Susan G. Koman for the Cure to Spike Cancer. For each fan in attendance, ATC has pledged to donate $.50 to the Susan G. Komen Madison Affiliate. In addition, fans will receive a pink Wisconsin Volleyball water bottle courtesy of ATC and Coca-Cola, while supplies last. Honorary coaches for Sunday s match will be Marilyn Bielema, the mother of UW football coach Bret Bielema, and Lisa Powell, a program assistant in the UW football office. Both are breast cancer survivors. Nearly 50 former Badgers will return to Madison this weekend for a volleyball reunion. All alumni will introduced between the second and third games on Friday during the Ohio State match. Returnees include All-Americans Laura Abbinante, Lisa Boyd, Kelly Kennedy, Amy Lee, Jenny Maastricht, Jill Odenthal and Morgan Shields. The Badgers are off to one of the program s best starts at 16-1 on the season. Wisconsin s best start was in 1996 when the team was 11-0. That team went on to a 13-1 record before losing at Michigan and falling to 13-2. The 16-1 start is the best for any UW team with one loss. The Badgers are also off to one of their best Big Ten starts ever at 8-0. Senior Jocelyn Wack was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. It was her first career conference award. The senior broke an 18-year-old school record at Minnesota with 26 digs in a three-game match, helping Wisconsin to its first win in the Twin Cities since 2001. Wack s match total broke the previous UW best of 24 digs set by Lisa Boyd in 1989. At Iowa, Wack posted a team-high 17 saves to finish the weekend with a 6.1 digs-per-game average. The Salem, Wis., native received serves at a.966 (56-of-58) percentage and also added six assists and a service ace on the weekend as the Badgers held their opponents to a combined.165 hitting average.

The Field House was the home of the UW boxing team from 1933-60, when boxing was an NCAA sport. An all-sport record crowd of 15,200 watched the Wisconsin vs. Washington State boxing match in 1949. Muhammad Ali suffered one of his few losses as an amateur boxer during the 1959 Pan American Games trials. Notable speakers in the Field House include presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Bob Hope and the Dalai Lama. Other events held in the Field House include basketball, wrestling, concerts, carnivals and Native American pow wows. Jackie Simpson moved into second on the UW career record list with 4,534 assists. She ranks 23rd on the Big Ten career record list. The Badger career record for assists is 5,833 set by Laura Abbinante from 1993-96. Reineke moved up one spot to third on Wisconsin s career blocking list with 595. She needs 24 more blocks to move into second and 88 blocks to take over the top spot. Reineke currently ranks sixth on the Big Ten career record list. Kills for the Defense In the last three matches, the Badgers defensive specialists have recorded kills, a rare occurrence for the back-row players. Against Iowa, senior Amanda Berkley (Racine, Wis.) took a Hawkeye attack and set the ball back over the net on the first contact, scoring a kill to the corner. It was her third kill of the season and the seventh of her career. Against both Indiana and Minnesota, senior Megan Mills (Portage, Wis.) recorded kills when her digs went over the net and dropped in for kills. The 5-6 Mills has three kills this season and five kills in her career. Salow Off the Bench Junior Morgan Salow (Manchester, Iowa) came off the bench at Iowa last Saturday night to spark the Badgers to the win. The 6-4 opposite hitter played in three games, recording seven kills on 18 attempts for a.389 hitting percentage. She also added one block. Four of Salow s kills came in game three, bringing Wisconsin back from a 16-13 deficit to tie the game at 18. Another Salow kill put Wisconsin up 25-23. Kuzma On the Defense Freshman Kim Kuzma (Muncie, Ind.) played a key defensive role for the Badgers in their win at Iowa. The 5-7 defensive specialist recorded 14 digs in the match, her second double-figure dig match of the season. She also added a careerhigh two assists, setting up Badger kills. On the season, Kuzma ranks second on the team with 2.43 digs per game. European Vacation The Badgers traveled to Europe for 13 days last summer for their NCAAallowed overseas training and competition tour. Wisconsin visited the Czech Republic (Prague and Brno), Austria (Vienna), Slovenia (Maribor) and Italy (Venice and Rome). The UW played five matches, including two against the Italian Junior National Team, finishing with a 1-4 record. My absolute favorite part of the trip was watching the team mature on and off the court, said coach Pete Waite. On the court, they improved from beginning to end and it gave us a glimpse of some of the exciting play we ll see this fall. Sister Duo For the first time since the 2000 season, the Badgers have a sister duo on the team. Senior Jocelyn Wack and freshman Allison Wack are competing together for the first time since Jocelyn was a senior in high school. That year, the duo from Salem, Wis., led Westosha Central High School to the 2003 WIAA State Division I Championship. UW Hosts Regional Wisconsin will host an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2000 and for the first time since the NCAA went to pre-determined regional sites in 2003. Two regional semifinal matches will be held in the UW Field House on Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. with the winners playing on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. for the right to advance to the NCAA championship on Dec. 13 and 15 in Sacramento, Calif. The last time the Badgers hosted a regional, Wisconsin downed Kansas State in the regional semifinal, 3-1, before edging UCLA, 3-2, for the right to advance to the final four. The UW finished the season second, downing USC, 3-0, in the national semifinals before losing to Nebraska, 3-2, in the championship match. Carroll Leaves Team Senior Maya Carroll (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) left the UW team before the season started to accept an internship with the new Big Ten Network. Carroll, a 6-2 middle blocker, had seen only limited playing time her first three seasons with the Badgers. A communications major, Carroll will be doing reporting for the network during a variety of UW events.

Led by a threegame record for digs from Jocelyn Wack and a match-high 22 kills from Brittney Dolgner, the ninth-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team downed 11th-ranked Minnesota, 3-0. The Badgers (15-1 overall, 7-0 Big Ten) remain undefeated and atop the Big Ten Conference race with Penn State. The Golden Gophers fall to 12-5, 5-2. She was the only Badger in double-digit kills though Wisconsin finished with a 53-46 advantage in kills. Allison Wack and Taylor Reineke each put down eight kills for the UW. Neither team recorded high hitting percentages in the defensive battle. The Badgers hit a season-low.190 while the Gophers hit.163. The two teams combined for 138 digs, with Wisconsin edging Minnesota 70-68. Megan Mills added a season-high 15 digs for the Badgers. The teams also combined for 23.5 blocks, this time it was the Gophers to finished with a 13-10.5 edge. Wisconsin served well, recording seven service aces and only five service errors.
