August 27, 2017 Jaitley launches HAL designed light combat helicopter Defence Minister Arun Jaitley announced the launch of the production of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) designed 5.8-tonne category Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) in Bengaluru on the 26th August 2017. It was cleared for procurement by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) few months ago. The basic version of LCH has been cleared by the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification, and the DAC has accorded the approval for the procurement of 15 LCH from HAL under Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured category Prime Minister announces immediate assistance of Rs 500 cr to flood affected Bihar Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced immediate assistance of 500 crore rupees to flood ravaged Bihar. He held detailed review meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over relief operations, compensation and rehabilitation work in flood affected areas. Mr. Modi said, 2 lakh rupees each will be paid to the next of kin of those who died in flood related incidents. Fifty thousand rupees each will be given to injured persons. Coastal Guard Ship Varuna Decommissioned The Indian Coast Guard Ship Varuna has been de commissioned. She had served the Indian Navy for over 30years and was part of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy. US President Donald Trump signs a memo to ban Obama-Era plan of recruiting trans genders in the military US President Donald Trump has signed a memo ordering the Pentagon to ban an Obama-era plan of recruiting trans gender individuals in the military. Democrats called the move cruel and meant to hurt and humiliate American soldiers. White House released the memorandum copy in which Mr Trump directed the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the US Coast Guard, to return to the longstanding practice that was in place prior to June last year. Mr Trump alleged that his predecessor Barack Obama dismantled the Defense Departments' established framework by permitting transgender individuals to serve openly in the military. The memorandum has requested the Pentagon to develop an implementation plan for the ban by February 21, 2018, which should be put in place on March 23, 2018. Former Thailand PM flees the country Facing a possible 10-year jail term, former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra fled the country ahead of a court verdict. Yingluck's whereabouts are not immediately known, but local media cited anonymous officials as saying she travelled by land to Cambodia then flew to Dubai to join her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra another exiled former premier whose government, like hers, was toppled in a military coup.
