Athletics Rules 2018 New Hampshire Registering in Agn Athletes may nly cmpete in ne f the categries listed abve. Athletes may cmpete in up t fur events including relays. Athletes may nly register fr ne f the fllwing events: tennis ball thrw, sftball thrw r sht put. Athletes may nly register fr ne f the fllwing events: running lng jump r standing lng jump. Divisining Events that verlap categries will be heated tgether. Equipment Unifrm Sht put Athletes must wear athletic clthing and sneakers. N jeans allwed. Bibs must be wrn n the frnt f shirt/unifrm, and must be pinned dwn n all fur crners. The sht may be steel, brass, r a synthetic-cvered implement. Sht put sizes are as fllws Sftball thrw Wheelchair (Men & Wmen): 1.81kg Female (8-11): 1.81 kg Male (8-11): 3.0 kg Female: 3.0 kg Male: 4.0 kg A sftball with a 30 centimeter (11 3/4 inches) in circumference shall be used. Tennis ball thrw Mini-javelin A tennis ball shall be used. Weight ptins 300 g, 400 g, r 500 g. (In 2018, we will be ging t tw weights: 300g fr females and males ages 8-15 years ld; and 400gs fr males) The shaft, grip and fins shall be made ut f plastic. The tip shall be made f sft rubber with a blunt, runded end. There are 4 fins. Running events The ptin f using blcks will be available. Cmpetitin COURSE LAYOUT 30 meter wheelchair slalm Beginning at the start line, place ne cne in each lane at 5-meter intervals. Cnes shuld be placed in the middle f the lanes. See image belw: Sftball thrw, tennis ball thrw, and mini jav The thrwing area shuld be set up as fllws: The runway shall be marked by tw parallel white lines 5 centimeters wide and 2.05 meters apart (2.82 meters in length). The thrw shall be made frm behind the arc f a circle drawn with a radius f 3.00 meters. The landing sectr shall be marked with white lines 5 centimeters wide such that the inner edge f the lines, if extended, wuld pass thrugh the tw intersectins f the inner edges f the arc, and the parallel lines marking the runway and intersect at the center f the circle f which the arc is part. Fr Walk with Supprt: Each athlete will use tw lanes as his/her lane, sufficiently wide enugh t allw fr assistive devices. Place cnes n the start and finish lines, 2.44 meters apart (tw track-lanes width) t create fur start and fur finish gates and fur lanes. Beginning at the start line, place ne cne n each lane line at 5-meter intervals. Cnes shuld be placed in the middle f the lane line. GENERAL RULES With Supprt: An athlete needs the assistance f anther individual and/r uses a device (i.e. canes, crutches, r walker). The assistance frm anther individual is fr balance nly and cannt prvide frward mmentum. An individual prviding assistance may nt be in frnt f cmpetitr at any time. An athlete with sensry sensitivities may request use f a whistle fr a start instead f a gun. Fr blind and deaf athletes: A rpe r sighted guide runner may be prvided t assist athletes wh are visually impaired. A sighted guide runner may nt be ahead f the athlete in any manner. At n time may the guide runner pull the athlete r prpel the athlete frward by pushing. A tap start will be used fr an athlete wh is bth deaf and blind. Guide runners must wear a bright range running vest s that they are clearly distinguished frm cmpetitrs. These vests will be prvided. Race Walking: An athlete must have ne ft in tuch with the grund at all times. Pentathln: The events shuld be dne in the fllwing rder: 100 meter run, lng jump, sht put, high jump, and 400 meter run. In lng jump and standing lng jump, each athlete shall be allwed three nn-cnsecutive attempts. The lngest attempt shall be used fr scring. In the case f ties, the secnd lngest scre shall be used. In the lng jump, an athlete must be able t jump at least 25 cm, which is the distance between the take-ff bard and the sand pit. Distance will be measured frm the clsest impressin n the landing area made by any part f the bdy r limbs t the take-ff line fr all jumps. Standing lng jump will be cnducted n a grass surface. The minimum pening height fr all high jump cmpetitins shall be even with the landing mat. Thrwing Events: In sht put, sftball thrw, mini-javelin, and tennis ball thrw, each athlete shall be allwed three nn-cnsecutive attempts. The lngest attempt shall be used fr scring. In the case f ties, the secnd lngest scre shall be used. In sftball thrw and tennis ball thrw, cmpetitrs may use any type f thrw. Mini-Javelin: The mini-javelin must be held by the grip with ne hand nly. The mini-javelin shall be thrwn ver the shulder r upper part f the thrwing arm and may nt be slung r hurled. At n time may the cmpetitr turn cmpletely arund s that his/her back is twards the thrwing area. The measurement f each thrw shall be made frm where the tip first struck the grund t the inside edge f the arc. It is cunted as a ful if the cmpetitr: Des nt use the prper thrwing technique. Des nt thrw the mini-javelin s that the pint (tip) lands befre any ther part f the implement. Des nt thrw the mini-javelin s that the pint (tip) falls cmpletely within the inner edges f the sectr lines. Where the cmpetitr tuches with any part f the bdy the arc as marked, r any grund beynd the arc r thrwing bx. RACE PROCEDURE Fr 800 Meters Run and greater distances, a waterfall start shall be used. Fr Wheelchair Races and Events: Athletes shall start with all wheels behind the start line and are timed frm the start t when all frnt wheels (tw r ne) f the wheelchair reach the perpendicular plane f the nearer edge f the finish line. 5 Special Olympics New Hampshire
Mtrized wheelchairs shall nt be allwed in manual wheelchair races. Athletes shall nt be pushed, pulled r therwise assisted during these events. The lanes fr the wheelchair events shall be made tw track-lanes wide. Each cmpetitr must keep in his/her lane frm start t finish and may nt interfere, bstruct r impede the prgress f anther cmpetitr. Infractins, at the discretin f the judges, may result in disqualificatin. Fr 30 Meter Wheelchair Slalm: Athlete maneuvers his/her chair thrugh the curse, ging t the right f the first bstacle and acrss the finish line withut impeding anther athlete n the curse. Kncking dwn a marker cnstitutes a vilatin, and a three-secnd penalty will be assessed. Each athlete will use tw lanes as his/her lane, sufficiently wide enugh t allw fr wheelchairs. Place the cnes n the start and finish lines 2.44 meters apart (tw track-lanes width) t create fur start and fur finish gates and fur lanes. Beginning at the start line, place ne traffic cne (slalm flagples minimum f 1.22 meter) in each lane at 5-meter intervals. Cnes shuld be placed in the middle f the lanes. Athlete maneuvers his/her chair thrugh the curse, ging t the right f the first bstacle and acrss the finish line withut impeding anther athlete n the curse. Kncking dwn a cne cnstitutes a vilatin, and a three-secnd penalty will be assessed. N penalty will be incurred as a result f tuching/ mving a cne. RELAY PROCEDURE Relays may have ne alternate athlete and ne alternate partner. The scres f the alternate may nt be faster than whm they are replacing. N ther substitutins are allwed. Each Unified Sprts relay team shall cnsist f tw athletes and tw partners. Fr a 4x100 meter relay, any runner waiting fr an incming team member (with a batn) is nt permitted t run utside his take-ver zne, and shall start within the zne. Disqualificatin Items listed belw will result in disqualificatin: Cmpetitrs leaving their lane, impeding anther s prgress. Intentinally r imprperly interfering with anther cmpetitr. Preventing anther cmpetitr frm passing. Pacing f cmpetitrs. Pacing is defined as mving alng with, ahead f, just behind r next t a cmpetitr fr mre than 3 meters by persns nt participating in the same race 6 Special Olympics New Hampshire

In a relay, making an imprper exchange f the batn utside f the designated relay exchange area. In jumping events, making 3 fuls taking ff beynd the take-ff line r frm utside either the end f the bard; r in the curse f landing, the athlete tuches the brder f r grund utside the landing area. In jumping events, nt landing a legal jump by the third attempt. Nt having ne ft tuching the grund at all times in race walking events. Nt wearing the prper unifrm attire.
