5. Management Committee Report - Judy Shelton, BDLGA President Judy verbally presented the following report to the meeting: Our present Management Committee was installed on Friday 4th March at the AGM and Club Workshop. At this stage, we have the full complement of committee for the first time in a few years. The first duty of the committee was to attend the Junior Pennant final at Virginia on Sunday 6th March. This year we had 6 teams of juniors, with 2 composite teams combining juniors from McLeod and Logan and Virginia and Nudgee. At this final it was decided between myself and the Junior Co-ordinator Jo Gregory to announce the Junior Jug team for this year, as we had a large number of parents present on this day. The team selected was Andrea Szerszen from Keperra, Zoe Maxwell from Virginia and Meika Cooley from McLeod, with the reserve Brooke Beck from Wynnum. As the Junior Jug was to be held at Gatton Golf Club this year, we decided to take the reserve with us, like we did last year to Beaudesert. Friday 1st April saw the commencement of 5 Divisions of pennants and 3 divisions of Weekend pennants started on the Sunday. This was a total of 33 clubs for Divisions 1 to 5 and 21 teams for Weekend 1 to 3. Some of the management committee were players or caddies in these pennant games, and I travelled around to the clubs watching the games. After the week s pennant games, the results were sent to the B&D Secretary, and then sent to a Pennant Committee member for checking mainly to see if players played in the correct divisions and on the correct handicaps. Wednesday 6th April was the Junior Championships at Virginia Golf Club. Again we had the Committee there on the day, driving around the course watching the players and conducting the presentation at the end of the day. These championships are in conjunction with Junior Golf Queensland. This partnership will continue in 2017. Divisions 1, 2 and 3 pennant teams finished their season on 29th April. The pennant flags were presented to the winning clubs by committee members. Division 4 and 5 Pennants finished on 13th May, again with committee members attending to do the presentation, following up on the Sunday with the 3 Weekend pennant divisions finishing. The following Friday 20th May I attended Golf Qld. AGM at Royal Queensland. This was a good opportunity to introduce myself to the Brisbane and District Men s President, Steve King. Also meeting up with other District Presidents who I have met in my travels with Junior Jug and Meg Nunn teams. The first tournament for the year was held at Nudgee Golf Club on 30th May. This was the District Foursomes. We had 64 teams playing on this day from 19 clubs. This was a great number of competitors. We had beautiful weather and the Nudgee ladies were great hosts. Our next divisions of pennants commenced their matches on Friday 3rd June. At every division starting their pennant games this year we ve had a committee member there to welcome the players and to give a few gentle reminders of rules but the main idea was to wish the players all the best and to enjoy their pennant games. On a rainy winter morning we travelled to Sandgate Golf Club for the 4BBB Stableford Challenge. This event is held each year at a smaller club that wouldn t be able to hold one of our bigger B&D tournaments. We had 20 pairs competing on the day from 10 clubs, which ended up being fine with no rain while the players were on the course. The Sandgate ladies were marvellous hosts and I m sure everybody present on the day had a great day. Page 2

Friday 1st July saw the finish of Divisions 6, 7 and 8 pennant teams. We had 18 clubs competing in these divisions. Again we had 3 committee members attending these finals. This year I was fortunate to visit all Divisions on Fridays and Sundays playing their matches at different courses. But it always mystifies me where some players get their rulings from. Thank you for my welcome that I received by the host clubs and when I met players around the courses. It was brought to my attention near the end of the pennant season we had a couple of non-playing pennant captains roaming the courses in buggies watching their players. It was noted that this practice was causing a safety problem with players hitting and out of nowhere comes a buggy from the trees, crossing the fairway. If you know of your non-playing captain and any other visitors watching pennants, please make sure they know to keep to the sides of the fairways. If you have to speak to your players, please wait for them to finish the hole and move to the next tee. If anybody is hit doing this criss-cross journey, it could become an injury insurance worry for golf clubs. Sunday 3rd July saw myself as manager and Jo Gregory as captain meet the Junior Jug Team up at Gatton Golf Club. Our refigured team consisted of Andrea Szerszen and Zoe Maxwell from Virginia Golf Club and Brooke Beck from Wynnum Golf Club. We had 3 different seasons during the week Cold Wet and freezing cold with gale-force winds. In these conditions, our girls performed well, finishing equal 3rd. Sunshine Coast and Burnett District were the Junior Jug winners for this year. Next year the Junior Jug tournament heads to Far North Qld. Hopefully a bit warmer up there. The Brisbane and District is hosting the Junior Jug in 2018. This year s Meg Nunn Salver team was announced last week. This team consists of: Ashleigh McCourt Nudgee Golf Club Lyndal Plant Indooroopilly Rachel Thomas Ashgrove Ann Fell Brisbane Jaculin Zuidman Wynnum Margaret Anderson Nudgee The non-playing captain is Cheryl Sternberg and myself as manager. The tournament is to be played at Kingaroy Golf Club from Monday 5th September to Thursday 8th September. We wish this team all the best in their quest to bring home the Salver. The B&D host this event in 2017. In a week s time we will be at Redland Bay Golf Club playing the Divisional Challenge and Champion of Champions event. At this stage we have 60 entries, which is low for this big tournament. If you are still thinking of entering, please fill in the entry form today and hand it to me. I extended the closing date until today, because of a wet Tuesday on 5th July, as many clubs didn t play golf that day. The closing date of the District Brooch is the 30th July. Please go into our website page, and click on the District Brooch to see the details. This is a free competition conducted by B&D for all clubs to enter. Please send your entries to our Secretary then Vicki passes them onto our Handicap Manager. This competition gives our District Manager something to do. Since the introduction of the GA Handicap system, Cheryl s workload has reduced, but she is always available to help the clubs with any handicapping problems. We have another Sip & Swing weekend coming up on 20th and 21st August at Palm Meadows. There are some flyers here today, and Vicki tells me there are still some vacancies. It is a good weekend, starting with swing tuition at Palm Meadows, conducted by Lee Harrington and her staff. Also Guest Coach Jenny Sevill will be talking on Mind Training!!!! I was present last year when Jenny spoke at our Sip & Swing weekend, and she was extremely interesting to listen to. Jenny also out-laid how she prepared herself for the professional golf circuit. Page 3

At this Delegate s meeting, you have the chance to suggest any changes that you might like to recommend for the 2017 pennant season. Anything suggested today, will be discussed at our next Management Committee meeting. When visiting pennant games this year, I spoke to many players and they suggested ideas on the pennant competition. My favourite saying to these players was HAVE YOU TOLD YOUR CLUB DELEGATE FOR HER TO RAISE THE ISSUE AT THE NEXT DELEGATE S MEETING. I hope before you came today, the players gave you their suggestions to raise on how we can make our pennant season successful. Unfortunately we had to cancel the 9 holes of golf after this meeting, due to lack of numbers. When we are arranging dates for another Delegate s meeting, we will give enough notice so members can arrange their diaries to stay and play golf. Thank you ladies. 6. Golf Queensland Report Judy Logan, Golf Queensland On behalf of the Board welcome and congratulations to ladies attending today s meeting and representing their clubs; also to the BDLGA Management Committee. Topics discussed today can be found in Q-Golf which can be downloaded from the Golf Qld website. Ask Golf Qld staff members if unsure how to use the website. Please also approach any Golf Qld representative with any questions if seeing them at events around Brisbane or Queensland. Junior Golf Queensland (ex Greg Norman Foundation) now have their own website. This encompasses My Golf. Qld Open this year is being held at Brisbane Golf Club from 20 23 October. Volunteer jobs available; spectators welcome. Virginia Irwin has been nominated for a National Coaching position with Golf Australia so her time with Golf Queensland will be reduced. Virginia is still involved with Ladies Let s Golf. Golf club membership is starting to rise again. Any clubs who want information or tips on how to grow membership contact David Webber at Golf Qld. Queensland Golf Foundation has been set up to assist junior golf in Queensland. Individuals can go onto the foundation to make donations towards junior golf through the foundation. Some clubs have considered including a component to membership fees next year to be donated towards the foundation. 7. PENNANT FORUM Deborah Marsland, Pennant Co-ordinator Deborah thanked everyone for a fantastic pennant season this year. Scheduling the season earlier worked well, with good results throughout the season. It was good to see a good spread of winning teams this season, with some close scores. Thank you to all teams and clubs who helped to make the season easier to manage. It was planned to have the intent forms for 2017 ready to hand out today, however, some of the discussion points may result in changes to the forms. After the Management Committee meeting on 1 August, discussion items will be considered and any changes made. The pennant intent forms will then be posted to clubs, addressed to Ladies Committee. Please check with club administration for these forms. Page 4

NOTE: Intent forms need to be returned no later than 14 October so the scheduling for 2017 pennants can be done. Please refer to the attached discussion items. 8. GENERAL BUSINESS Judy announced that Deborah Marsland is now the Vice-President of BDLGA, we have a full management committee in 2016. Margaret Bennet enquired as to why there was no financial report presented at the meeting. At this meeting we changed the format for the President to present an overall Executive Committee Report covering all topics. Any financial queries can be directed to our Treasurer. MEETING CLOSED at 11.40am. Next Meeting: Friday, 18 th November 2016 Venue TBA Signed:... Judy Shelton, President Page 5
