Ray-Pec Bands Hawaiian Adventure Working Itinerary: The following itinerary provides an overview of your tour events and timings. Important: Times and activities are subject to change before or during the tour. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 Departure Flight Information We will travel by school bus to the airport. Specific times will provided for meeting at the high school. Tips for packing are available in the Travel Tips document. Currently, the following flights will be used. Passengers will be assigned a flight which coordinates with their rooming requests. Requesting a specific flight is not possible. Delta #2165 and #941 to Atlanta Delta #837 to Honolulu Delta #2087 to Minneapolis Delta #1664 to Honolulu Each passenger is allowed one checked bag. Trumpets, Saxophones, and other smaller instruments will be considered a carry on item. Larger instruments (mellophones, baritones, and larger) will be checked luggage (this cost is covered on your behalf). Arrival Aloha! Arrive at the Honolulu Airport and receive a traditional fresh flower lei greeting. Walk to baggage claim as a group to identify your luggage (personal bags and your instrument, if checked). A luggage service will be used to transport your bags and checked instruments to your hotel room. Once we arrive at the hotel and check in, there will be a short hotel security meeting with one of the hotel managers. Thursday, November 26, 2015 6:15 am Meet as a group and walk to breakfast. 6:30 am Breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe 8:00 am Depart on motorcoach for the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Pali Lookout The Nuuanu Pali Lookout is a favorite stop. It gives you a panoramic view of the Windward side of the island located at Nuuanu Pali State Park. The lookout overlooks the 985 foot cliffs of the Koolau Mountain Range. (Translated, "pali" means "cliffs.") The trade winds blow through the valley between the high mountains on either side, forming a strong wind tunnel of sorts. On extra windy days, you can even lean into the wind and let the gusts hold you up. Pali Lookout was the setting for one of the most significant battles in Hawaiian history. In 1795 it is said to be here where King Kamehameha conquered the island of Oahu to unify the Hawaiian Islands. 9:45 am Arrive at Kualoa Ranch s Moli i boat dock to be driven across the ancient Hawaiian fish pond to Secret Island. Upon arrival at the island, walk the winding pathway through the island s hau tree tunnels and arrive on the private white sand beach of Secret Island. There you will have access to the island equipment such as volleyball, outrigger canoe, kayaks, table tennis, beach mats and snorkel equipment. Noon Enjoy the Kualoa Ranch lunch buffet. 1:50 pm Begin to depart the island by pontoon boat. 2:00 pm Depart for the hotel. 4:30 pm Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at Hard Rock Cafe Waikiki. The one of a kind Rock Wall solo gives the ability to deep zoom into memorabilia of music legends, such as Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Johnson, and many more while learning about each piece s history. Menu: Scrambled eggs, bacon, island style fried potatoes, French toast, fresh fruit salad, pineapple orange guava mixed juice (POG), coffee, tea. Leisure Day Approx. 4:30 pm Approx. 5:15 pm Waikiki Beach has something for everyone! You can sign up for a surprisingly inexpensive outrigger canoe ride or attempt surfing lessons. You may rent boogie boards and canoes on the beach, or perhaps you just want to relax on a catamaran cruise or soak up the sun from the beach. Load large instrument cases onto instrument truck. Meet at the hotel and walk together to Fort DeRussy for parade line up. 7:00 pm Parade begins. 2015 marks the 74th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorates this event each year. The parade is host to local Hawaiian bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, service bands, military units, local officials and dignitaries who march in the Waikiki Holiday Parade, paying tribute to this major historical event. The parade, founded in 1998 by Jake Peppers, is host to thousands of spectators, residents and visitors alike. The parade begins at 7:00 pm at Fort DeRussy, travels down Kalakaua Avenue and is approximately one and one half miles in length, ending at Queen Kapiolani Park. After marching, load instrument truck with large instruments (small instruments will be carried) and load motorcoaches to return to the hotel. Dinner
Saturday, November 28, 2015 8:00 am Breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe Diamond Head Hike Hike the Diamond Head trail that takes you up to the pinnacle of Diamond Head, an inactive volcano. The hike is about 3/4 of a mile up a fairly steep grade. You may want to bring some water for this journey. Often windy and always beautiful, this perch gives an unobstructed view of Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu. We will divide into two groups for the hike with offset times to avoid overcrowding. You will be informed of which group you are in before the hike. Shopping If you like to shop, you will be in heaven! Some great shopping areas include: Ala Moana Shopping Center for a shuttle bus pick up, call (808) 955 9517. Fare is $2.00 and tickets can be purchased on the bus. Royal Hawaiian Center located on Kalakaua Avenue. Note: No students will travel on their own. Make arrangements with your chaperone and group when planning activities during this time. 4:30 pm Gather in the park for a traditional Hawaiian catered picnic. Menu: Tossed greens with Italian dressing, grilled teriyaki chicken, mahimahi katsu (a crispy panko coated filet) with tartar sauce, corn niblets with peppers and onions, steamed rice, macaroni salad, dinner rolls with butter, assorted juice and water, pineapple upsidedown cake.

National Security at Pearl Harbor Because Pearl Harbor is an active military base, they strongly enforce the following: No purses, handbags, fanny packs, backpacks, camera bags, diaper bags, luggage or other items that offer concealment are allowed in the visitor center or on the memorial. Strollers with pockets and compartments must be emptied before being allowed in the visitor s center. Personal cameras (out of their cases) are allowed, but camera cases are not. Baggage storage is not available and there are no alternatives in the local area for bag storage. You may not leave any items on your motorcoach. USS Missouri Battleship The USS Missouri is the fourth ship and the second battleship to bear the name of the Show Me state. The ship was the last battleship commissioned by the USA, and in 1992 was the world s last operational battleship. The ship provided gunfire support for many famous and important battles of WWII. On September 2, 1945, the ship was chosen to be the stage for the signing of Japan s Formal Instrument of Surrender, bringing an end to the war. USS Arizona Memorial The USS Arizona is the final resting place for many of the ship s 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on December 7, 1941. The Memorial structure stands over the mid portion of the sunken battleship. A representative from your group will present a wreath at the base of the marble wall where the names of those killed on the Arizona are engraved. 7:35 am Depart for the USS Missouri Battleship 8:35 am Arrive at the USS Missouri Battleship, take group photo, and prepare for the performance. 9:40 am Performance and short flag presentation. Load instruments. 10:30 am Self tour of the USS Missouri Battleship. 11:15 am provided. Menu: Ham, turkey, and cheese on fresh baked croissant, ships, seasonal fruit, dessert and beverage (vegetarian garden salad available upon advance request). 11:45 am Transfer via exclusive bus shuttle to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center. 1:15 pm Performance 1:45 pm You will be assigned to one of three groups to visit the USS Arizona Memorial Visitors Center, watch a short film (it s really good!), and visit the memorial. 4:30 pm Load motorcoaches and return to your hotel. Monday, November 30, 2015 7:15 am Breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe 8:45 am Depart for the Dole Plantation, home of the world s largest pineapple maze. Admission into the maze is included in your package. There is a special surprise for the fastest person to complete the maze. If you like ice cream and pineapple make sure to try a delicious Dole Whip! 11:45 am Depart for the Polynesian Cultural Center. North Shore Polynesian Cultural Center En route to the Polynesian Cultural Center, view the world famous Banzai Pipeline and the beautiful Sunset Beach, site of Baywatch Hawaii. On your own at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Explore the Polynesian Cultural Center this afternoon. The center invites you to discover seven different Polynesian villages and cultures, including the islands of Tonga, Tahiti, Marquesas, Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hawaii, portrayed through performances, demonstrations, and native artifacts. Included: Admission to Polynesian Villages Entrance to one Imax Show Buffet dinner Hā Breath of Life evening show The PCC is like a huge park where you can visit the different cultures and participate in fun activities with the local guides. You will have time to visit several different areas. 5:00 pm Buffet Dinner (really good!) 7:00 pm After dinner, move to the Pacific Theatre for the Hā Breath of Life evening show. This is the largest revue of Polynesian song and dance in the world featuring over 100 native performers from all corners of the Pacific. 9:00 pm Depart on motorcoach for the hotel.
Tuesday, December 1, 2015 Wednesday, December 2, 2015 8:30 am Breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe Check out TBA Check out of the hotel. Bag pull (checked bags inside room door) and check out. Hospitality rooms will be available to store carry on luggage during the day since you will be required to check out in the morning. Departure Check out of your hotel and depart for Honolulu International Airport for your return flight to the mainland. Note regarding packing suitcases: Due to mandatory agricultural baggage checks at the airport, it is not safe to pack film in your suitcase. The agricultural machine will damage your film so please pack film in your carry on. Also note that no perishable foods or plants are allowed off the island unless they have been inspected and tagged with permission to leave the island. Flights Currently, the following flights will be used. Passengers will be assigned a flight which coordinates with their rooming requests. Requesting a specific flight is not possible. Larger instruments (mellophones, baritones, and larger) will be checked luggage (this cost is covered on your behalf). Home Flights are scheduled to arrive in Kansas City between 9:30am 11:45am. School busses will pick us up and drive us back to the school. Additional details will be provided so parents will know when to pick up their child. If a parent is picking up a student from the airport, they are required to sign out with the band director leading that group. Please note that the timing for picking up a student at the airport may be tricky. If the busses are ready to depart and a student is still waiting for their parents, we cannot leave a student and will not wait. Once flight groups are established, it will be easier to determine what time the flight your child is on is scheduled to land. Get plenty of sleep during the afternoon and evening.
