SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference program Maryland Eastern Shore started the season with a 92-38 win over Valley Forge before falling to fellow D-I programs Buffalo (76-41) and Syracuse (68-45) in road games last week... the Hawks are led by Jordyn Smith (10.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.3 spg,.441 FG) and Tori Morris (8.0 ppg, 8.7 rpg). ALL-TIME SERIES: The Seawolves have not played any of this week s visiting Shootout teams. SHOOTOUT SNAPSHOT: The Seawolves aim for their seventh GCI Great Alaska Shootout title when they host the tournament for the fourth and fi nal time at Alaska Airlines Center... UAA s game against Maryland Eastern Shore will be a regular-season counter, while the Seawolves Thursday contest will be counted as an exhibition for UAA and a regular game on its opponent s record... this marks the 38th edition of the women s Shootout, which was known as the Northern Lights Invitational from 1980-97... from 1999 to 2013, the Shootout was played at Sullivan Arena... fi nd complete historical info at GoSeawolves.com/Shootout. SEAWOLVES AT THE SHOOTOUT: In 1990, the Seawolves became the fi rst Div. II women s team to win a tournament against all- Div. I competition, repeating their feat at the 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009 Shootouts... the fi rst title came when the tournament included eight teams and was known as the Northern Lights Invitational; the subsequent championships have come under the current 4-team format the Seawolves are 36-56 all-time in the Shootout and 16-20 since the current format began in 1999... although UAA went winless in 2016 losing close contests to Portland and Missouri State the Seawolves own 37 regular-season wins against 33 different NCAA Div. I programs... UAA s last D-I victory came against Pepperdine (94-61) in the first round of the 2015 GCI Great Alaska Shootout. UAA CLAIMS CLASSIC CROWN: The Seawolves won the unofficial title of their own Seawolf Hoops Classic with a pair of dominating performances Nov. 17 & 18, beating Holy Names 92-49 and Western State 82-54 at the Alaska Airlines Center... in the first game, Sr. G Rodericka Ware scored a game-high 19 points (8-14 FG) and tournament Most Outstanding Player Hannah Wandersee delivered 17 points (6-8 FG, 5-5 FT), 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks as UAA outscored the Pacific West Conference club 75-34 over the last three quarters, including a program-record +26 Ware scoring differential (33-7) in the 4th quarter... UAA is a combined 61-3 including 28-1 on the road in GNAC regular-season and tournament games over the last three seasons... at 102-7 (.936), the Seawolves have the most victories and the best winning percentage in NCAA Div. PG Yazmeen Goo still recorded one of the most productive freshman seasons for a point guard in Seawolf history, finishing 2nd in total assists (120), 3rd in apg (4.1), 5th in total steals (50), 6th in spg (1.7) and 7th in FT% (.774) on the program s rookie lists... now a starter, Goo has added a scoring element to her game, tying or setting her career high in three of the last four contests, including 9 points apiece in both games in Ellensburg... last week the Bay Area native earned all-tournament honors at the Goo Seawolf Hoops Classic with totals of 15 points -- including a careerhigh 11 against Western State -- 7 assists, one turnover and 6 steals, and.500 FG... in the early GNAC stats, Goo is the leader in assist-

turnover ratio (3.2), 4th in steals per game (2.6) and 7th in assists per game (3.8)... Goo and UAA have also gotten a boost with the return of Sr. SG Kaitlyn Hurley, who missed the second half of last season... a dangerous scorer from anywhere on the court, Hurley has posted 5.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 2.0 spg thus far, with a season-high 9 points in the win at Johnson & Wales. TRANSFER TRAIN S A-CHUGGIN : UAA s four active transfers have all made an immediate impact, with Sr. G Rodericka Ware (Academy of Art) and Jr. G Kian McNair (Portland State) standing out as all-tourney picks at last week s Seawolf Hoops Classic... Ware... Ware began her career at Central Arizona College before earning First Team All-Pacific West Conference honors last year with Art U, posting McNair 17.4 ppg, 4.0 apg and a league-leading 2.7 spg... the Lakewood, Wash., native has scored double figures in all five games as a Seawolf and has at least three swipes in every contest, including 19 points and 5 steals against Holy Names... in 57 games at D-I program Portland State, McNair led the Vikings with 11.3 ppg as a freshman and recorded 18 double-digit scoring efforts... the Vallejo, Calif., product found her scoring touch last week with season highs of 14 points Stallworth (6-12 FG) against Holy Names and 9 points (2-4 FG, 5-6 FT) against Western State, along with 8 total assists and 9 total steals (UAA season-high 6 vs. HNU)... McNair is No. 2 in the league behind Ware with 3.2 spg... meanwhile, junior-college transfers Sydni Stallworth (2-time 1st Team NJCAA All-American at Pima CC) and Rainey Kuykendall (from 2-time NJ- CAA national runner-up Trinity Valley CC) have provided a big lift off the bench, especially in last week s Kuykendall victories... Stallworth is 3rd on the team with 3.0 apg, dishing a season-high 6 assists against Holy Names, while Kuykendall delivered 10 points (3-6 FG, 4-4 FT), 9 rebounds and 4 blocks in just 25 combined minutes against HNU and Western State. FELLIN FRESH: The future looks bright as UAA s three true freshmen are already making early contributions, including Pacifica, Calif., product Sala Langi, who ranks third on the team with 4.6 rpg and fourth in steals with 1.6 spg... former Chugiak High all-state guard Nicole Pinckney tallied 12 points last week after notching just three in the first three games, and former East High star Tennae Voliva has posted season highs of 5 points and 3 rebounds thus far. Langi McCARTHY IN CHARGE: Now in his sixth season at UAA and seventh overall as a head coach, Ryan Mc- Carthy has led the Seawolf program to new heights, capturing three straight GNAC regular-season and tournament titles and ascending as high as No. 1 or No. 2 in the national rankings in each of the past three campaigns... McCarthy earned his second GNAC Coach of the Year honor in the last three seasons McCarthy in 2016-17 and three-peated as the WBCA s NCAA Div.
