RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. ENTRY FEES: Noted in the prize list by each class and on entry form. 2. Judges decisions are final. 3. The Show Management reserves the right to further cancel, combine or divide classes when deemed necessary to facilitate the smooth running of the show. 4. Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current MHC rule book and will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. 5. In classes where judging standards are listed, they are named in order of importance. 6. NSHA MEMBERSHIP NSHA Annual Award points accrue at each horse show for NSHA members. In performance classes the owner/leasee of the horse must be a member and in equitation classes the rider must be the member. No points are to count until membership is paid. Membership applications are available from the show secretary the day of the show and can also be found at www.northshorehorsemens.org or writing to Shara Prieskorn 248 Lowell St Wakefield MA 01880. 7. A trophy and 6 ribbons will be awarded in each class unless otherwise noted. 8. Entries close the Thursday before the show. Post entries will be charged a fee of $10 for the day. No voice telephone entries. 9. The show committee reserves the right to not delay classes due to conflicts and not allow substitution of classes or horses. No ring holds will be accepted for coaching conflicts between rings. 10. Proof of negative Coggins must accompany each horse as it enter the show grounds. Tests must be dated within 6 months for out of state horses and within 12 months for MA horses. 11. Any entry found on the judges card that has not been previously entered may be required to pay one and on half entry fees. 12. All returned checks will be charged $35 fee and entrants will not be allowed to compete unless all previous indebtedness to NSHA has been cleared. Any individual or farm that has two returned checks within one calendar year will be required to pay for entries in cash or money order for the remainder of the year. 13. Refunds of entries will not be made unless a veterinarian or doctor s certificate of lameness, injury or illness is show. Refunds will be made if a class is cancelled. 14. Every animal entered for competition will be under the control of the horse show committee, but the NSHA show and its employees will in no case be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. It shall be a condition of the entry that each exhibitor shall sign the entry blank holding the show blameless for any loss, accident or decision which may occur. 15. ALL DOGS MUST BE LEASHED!!! 16. Schooling is permitted in authorized areas only. Courteous behavior is expected from all exhibitors. 17. All riders are to dress appropriately in all classes.

NSHA MEMBERSHIP & AWARDS INFORMATION North Shore Horsemen s Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the interest and education in horsemanship. To this end, we offer this series of Pleasure horse shows with Year End Awards in many divisions with many special awards. We also award two scholarships each year. RULES FOR ANNUAL PLEASURE AWARDS 1. All horses/ponies competing in performance classes must be owned or leased by a member whose current dues are paid in order to accumulate points. All exhibitors competing in equitation classes must be members whose current dues are paid in order to accumulate points. Points for the NSHA Annual Awards will only accrue from the time the membership is RECEIVED by the Show Secretary, Membership Secretary or the Treasurer. 2. Riders in all events, unless otherwise specified, may be either amateur or professional and are eligible for points, provided their current dues has been paid. 3. Points to be accumulated only during NSHA sponsored point shows according to the published schedule. 4. There will be a championship trophy, reserve ribbon and third, fourth, fifth and sixth place ribbons presented to the competitors accumulating the most points in each respective division at the end of the season. 5. In order for a class or division to be eligible for an Annual Award, it must have been offered and run in one more than half the number of shows offered. 6. Each competing horse, pony or rider (in Equitation classes) must show in the SAME point class in at least one more show than half the number of point shows offered and run to be eligible for Annual Awards. Example: If five (5) shows are offered and run, one must compete in at least three (3). Exception: If management cancels a show after it has begun, then the horse/pony or rider will still receive credit for attendance at that show, provided they have completed an entry form and a number has been assigned. 7. It will be the duty of the Show Committee to determine the eligibility of all competitors. 8. Questions and protests will be referred to the Show Committee whose decision is final. 9. OPEN HORSE COLTS AND FILLIES Open to horse colts and fillies only (pony colts and fillies are not eligible) that are under 2 years of age as of previous January 1 st. Foaling date must be stated on the entry form. No more than 2 attendants per entry allowed in the ring. The use of any whip over 6 by handler or assistant is prohibited. Dams not allowed in the ring at any time. 2. OPEN HORSE COLTS AND FILLIES Entries to be shown in a suitable bridle or halter. Required to move individually at a walk and trot or alternate gait both ways of the ring. To be judged on quality, conformation, way of going and soundness. 3. OPEN HORSE COLTS AND FILLIES CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications same as Horse Colts and Fillies. Must have entered and shown in Class 1 ROAD HACK 35. ROAD HACK English horses only. To be shown on a reasonably loose rein without loss of contact at a flat-footed walk, trot, extended trot, canter and hand gallop under control. Excessive speed to be penalized. Must stand quietly and back readily. No more than eight horses shall be asked to gallop at one time. To be judged on performance, substance and manners. 40. ROAD HACK CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications same as for class 35. Must have entered and shown in class 35. REGISTERED MORGAN HORSE Not Rated Horses in this division must be registered with the American Morgan Horse Association and must be shown under their full registered name, or if under 1 year of age be eligible for registration. No obstacles in classes. Horses in championship classes will not be stripped. 18. OPEN MORGAN PLEASURE Open to saddle seat, western and hunt seat. To be shown at a walk, trot, extended trot, canter and extended canter with a light rein but still maintaining contact with the horse s mouth. To be judged 60% on manners, performance, quality, presence and the apparent ability to give a good pleasure ride and 40% on type and conformation. 25. OPEN MORGAN PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications same as class 18 except judging percentages are split 50%/50%. Must have entered and shown in class 18.

SHOWMANSHIP 41. OPEN SHOWMANSHIP Shall be judged on exhibitor s ability to fit and show a halter horse. This class is not a halter class and should not be judged as such, the horse is merely a prop. To be shown in a suitable halter or bridle and proper attire. Pattern to be posted at the entry booth. REGISTERED PAINT/PINTO HORSE Open to horses registered with the Paint Horse Association or the Pinto Horse Association. Papers to be available. 44. REGISTERED PAINT/PINTO HALTER To be shown in a halter or light bridle by one handler only. No specific breed type to be favored. Any animal showing lameness will be disqualified. Entries shall be judged individually, standing and then walk and trot on the line. Saddle type pintos may be stretched but all others should stand square. To be judged on conformation, quality, way of going, type and markings. 54. REGISTERED PAINT/PINTO OPEN PLEASURE Horses to be shown under English or Western equipment. To be shown at a walk, trot or jog and canter or lope both ways of the ring. Horses will be asked to back. To be judged on performance, manners, conformation, suitability, appointments and markings. 58. REGISTERED PAINT/PINTO OPEN PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications the same as Class 54. Must have entered and shown in class 54. HUNTER PLEASURE 74. HUNTER PLEASURE OPEN Open to all horses of the hunter type ordinarily used for pleasure purposes with no limitation as to status of rider. To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Light contact with the horse s mouth is required. To be judged on manners, performance, quality, presence, substance, and soundness. 76. HUNTER PLEASURE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications the same as Class 74. Must have entered and shown in Class 74. ACADEMY DIVISION UNRATED 8. ACADEMY LEADLINE 8/UNDER To be judged at the walk ONLY on the line and may be asked to back. To be judged on equitation only. Horse and/or rider may not cross enter into any other class at this show. 9. OPEN ACADEMY WALK/TROT 17 & UNDER EQUITATION To be shown at a walk and trot / jog ONLY. No child entered may compete in any other class requiring entries to canter or lope. Horse and/or rider may not cross enter any other class at this show. Entry Fee $12.00 10. OPEN ACADEMY WALK/TROT PLEASURE Open to English and Western riders. To be shown at a walk, trot / jog ONLY. ACADEMY WALK, TROT CANTER PLEASURE Open to English and Western riders. To be shown at a walk, trot / jog and canter / lope both ways of the ring. ACADEMY WALK, TROT CANTER PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications the same as class 13. Must have entered and shown in class 13. OPEN COLOR BREED DIVISION Open to Palomino, Appaloosa, Paint, Pinto, Buckskin etc. May be shown under English or Western tack. 43. COLOR BREED MODEL HORSE To wear a suitable halter or bridle. Not to be moved. Judged on conformation and characteristics of its color breed. 52. OPEN COLOR BREED PLEASURE May be shown under English or Western tack. To be shown at a walk, trot or jog or alternative gait and canter or lope. To be judged on performance and best color example of that breed. 56. OPEN COLOR BREED PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Specifications the same as Class 52. Must have entered and shown in Class 52.

LEAD LINE Open to riders 6 years of age and under riding English or Western, who may not have competed in any other class at any recognized show except for lead line. Adult (over age 18) required to lead entry. Handlers/riders must be properly attired. 5. LEAD LINE EQUITATION 6/UNDER Open to riders 6 years of age and under riding English or Western. To be judged at the walk, trot/jog both ways of the ring. To be judged on Equitation only. Entry Fee $12.00 6. LEAD LINE SUITABILITY 6/UNDER Open to riders 6 years of age and under riding English or Western. To be judged at the walk, trot/jog only both ways of the ring. Suitability of mount to rider to count. 7. LEAD LINE SUITABILITY CHAMPIONSHIP To be shown at the walk, trot/jog only. Must have entered and shown in Class 6. To be judged on suitability of rider to mount. IN HAND DIVISION 1. ENGLISH HORSE IN HAND Open to Hunter and Saddle type horses using an appropriate halter or bridle. Entries shall be judged individually standing and then at a walk and trot on the line. Emphasis shall be placed on type, conformation, substance, quality and manners. 45. WESTERN HORSE IN HAND Entries shall be judged individually standing and then at the walk and jog on the line. Emphasis shall be placed on type, conformation, substance, quality and manners. 4. OPEN PONY IN HAND Open to ponies 14.2 hands and under. To be judged individually standing and then at a walk and trot both ways of the ring. To be judged on breed type, conformation, quality, substance, way of going, disposition and manners. NOVICE RIDER PLEASURE HORSE DIVISION 34. OPEN NOVICE RIDER PLEASURE-ENGLISH OR WESTERN Open to amateur riders who have not won 6 blue ribbons in a pleasure class at a recognized show. To be shown at a walk, trot/jog, canter/lope. To be judged on manners and performance. Entry fee $15.00 37. OPEN NOVICE RIDER PLEASURE-ENGLISH OR WESTERN CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 34. Must have entered and shown in class 34.

PLEASURE HORSE DIVISION 46. OPEN NOVICE PLEASURE HORSE UNRATED Open to horses and ponies ridden English or Western that have not won more than 6 ribbons at a recognized show. To be show at a walk, trot/jog, canter/lope. To be judged on performance, manners, quality and substance. 36. LADIES PLEASURE HORSE Open to horses ridden English or Western by a female rider 18 years and over. To be shown at a walk, trot/jog, canter/lope. May be asked to back. To be judged on manners, performance and suitability. 38. LADIES PLEASURE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 36. Must have entered and shown in class 36. 29. ENGLISH PLEASURE OPEN Open to horses ordinarily used for pleasure purposes with no limitation as to status of rider. To be shown at a walk, trot and canter. Loose rein on command of judge only but without loss of contact. Will be required to back. To be judged on manners, performance and substance. 31. ENGLISH PLEASURE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 29. Must have entered and shown in class 29. 75. AMATEUR ADULT PLEASURE Open to horses and ponies used for pleasure purposes ridden English or Western by an amateur ride 18 years and over. To be shown at a walk, trot/jog, canter/lope. Must stand quietly and back readily. To be judged on manners, performance and substance. 77. AMATEUR ADULT PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 75. Must have entered and shown in class 75. 60. WESTERN PLEASURE OPEN Open to horses and ponies ordinarily used for pleasure purposes with no limitation as to status of rider. To be shown at the walk, jog, lope on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. Will be asked to back. To be judged on manners, performance and substance. 62. WESTERN PLEASURE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 60. Must have entered and shown in class 60. 33. JUNIOR EXHIBITOR PLEASURE HORSE ENGLISH Horses to be shown at a walk, trot and canter. Extended gaits may be called for by the judge. Entries shall be penalized for being on the wrong lead. Special emphasis shall be placed on the walk. May be asked to back.

JUNIOR EXHIBITOR PLEASURE WESTERN Horses to be shown at a walk, jog and canter on a reasonably loose rein without restraint. Extending gaits may be called for by the judge. Entries will be penalized for being on the wrong lead. Special Emphasis shall be placed on the walk. May be asked to back. 67. EQUITATION DIVISION 17. SADDLE SEAT EQUITATION UNDER 18 Riders will be judged at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. To be judged on control, showmanship, ring generalship, hands, basic position and appointments. Horses shall be shown in a full bridle and flat English type saddle. Martingales are prohibited. 22. SADDLE SEAT EQUITATION UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 17. Must have entered and shown in class 17. 57. WESTERN/REINING SEAT EQUITATION UNDER 18 Riders will be judged on seat, hands, performance of horse, appointments of horse and rider and suitability of horse to rider. Horses are to enter the ring at a walk and will be judged at a walk, jog and lope on the correct lead both ways of the ring. Horses are required to back. 59. WESTERN/REINING SEAT EQUITATION UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 57. Must have entered and shown in class. 57. Entry Fee$20.00 30. HUNT SEAT PLEASURE EQUITATION ALL AGES Open to Junior Exhibitors and Amateur Adults. Riders to be judged on the flat with emphasis on position, hand, seat and the rider s horsemanship to execute a pleasure ride. No martingales or tie downs. 32. HUNT SEAT PLEASURE EQUITATION ALL AGES CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 30. Must have entered and shown in class 30. APPALOOSA DIVISION Horses shown in these classes must be registered with the Appaloosa Horse Club, Inc. and must be entered under their full registered name. 42. APPALOOSA HALTER OPEN To be shown in a halter or bridle. Exhibitor may show in English or Western attire. Entries shall be judged individually standing and then walk and trot on the line. Horses should stand squarely and naturally and are not to be stretched. Horses to be handled and shown by one person only. Emphasis shall be placed on type, conformation, action, substance, quality and manners. To be judged 40% on conformation, 20% on type, 20% on soundness and 20% on action. 48. APPALOOSA PLEASURE OPEN Open to English and Western horses. If shown with a stock saddle, silver equipment will not count over a good working outfit. No martingales, tie downs or draw reins. To be shown at a walk, trot/jog and canter/lope on a reasonably loose rein both ways of the ring. To be judges 60% on performance and manners, 30% on type, conformation, quality and substance and 10% on appointments. 50. APPALOOSA PLEASURE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 48. Must have entered and shown in class 48.

REGISTERED QUARTER HORSE DIVISION Horses must be registered with the American Quarter Horse Association. Class specifications will be the same as the American Quarter Horse Association Rule Book and must be shown under fill registered name on papers. 69. QUARTER HORSE HUNTER UNDER SADDLE Horses are to be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Horses should back easily and stand quietly. Horses may change gaits at the flatfooted walk or the trot at the judge s discretion. Light contact with the horse s mouth is recommended. At the option of the judge, may be required to hand gallop one or both ways of the ring. At the hand gallop the judge may ask the group to halt and stand quietly on a free rein. 72. QUARTER HORSE HUNTER UNDER SADDLE CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 69. Must have entered and shown in class 69. 51. QUARTER HORSE WESTERN PLEASURE Horses to be shown at a walk, jog and lope on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. Horses must work both ways of the ring at all three gaits to demonstrate their ability with different leads. Horses may be asked to extend leads. Horses are required to back easily and stand quietly. This class is judged on performance and conformation at the discretion of the judge. Entries will be penalized for excessive speed and wrong leads. 53. QUARTER HORSE WESTERN PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 51. Must have entered and shown in class. 51. GREEN HORSE DIVISION NON RATED Open to horses and ponies who are in their first or second year of showing and ordinarily used for pleasure purposes. There are no limitations as to status of the rider. All seats and disciplines welcome. 16. GREEN HORSE WALK/TROT PLEASURE Open to English and Western seats. To be shown at the walk and trot/jog. To be judged on performance, manners, quality and substance. May be asked to back. 19. GREEN HORSE WALK/TROT PLEASURE CHAMPIONSHIP Same specifications as class 16. To be shown at a walk trot/jog, canter/lope both ways of the ring. To be judged on manners, performance, quality, presence and soundness. Judge may ask for an extension of any gate and may repeat a gait at their discretion. All horses are required to back. 15. MHC SADDLE SEAT PLEASURE CLASSIC Horses to walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring.
