For those of us that went, we had a great time riding around some great countryside that most of us would probably never see. If you have never been to this event, put it on your bucket list. The Indian Harley Club Bunbury does a brilliant job organising this event. From the camp site, to the food and most importantly the rides it is all first class and everyone involved in organising this event deserves a bloody great pat on the back and thanks from all who are fortunate enough to take part or just spectate. Our EAMC had about 15 bikes entered. Pretty good effort I think. We definitely stood out with our shelter in the assembly area. Great effort by the members who carted and erected it. Does anyone remember Gilligan s Island? Was the pilot s name Wrongway McAdam? Someone yelled on Saturday follow Glen and that was the start of the navigation problems. Lucky for us we had our WOW (Wise Old Walton) factor and he was able to guide us back to camp before there was need for a search party. Again on Sunday there was a repeat- this time someone about my size made WOW change his route sheet after the morning tea stop, so instead of doing a complete route we back tracked and did what we had done in reverse. Moral of the story? Listen to the instructions prior to the ride and read information provided. Any way a great time was had by all. Can t wait for next year. Please remember that all members are encouraged and invited to attend committee meetings. If you can make it, please let someone know so as to make it easier on the host. Also remember if you have anything to buy, sell, swap or service to offer advertise it in your Flatchat. Keep safe. Hami M: 0417918162 email:ghamieamc106@gmail.com. Our postal address is. Check our Facebook page also. https://www.facebook.com/earlyamericanmotorcyclecl ub Arthur Grady Display I am sure that you have heard that the COF has cancelled Arthur Grady Day this year due to major works in Kings Square. However all is not lost. Basically the event will go ahead on the same day but it will just be the bike clubs taking part this year. Hopefully returning next year for the full shebang. Arthur Grady Display Date: 27 May 2017 Place: Fremantle Maritime Museum Time: 10am 12.00noon We will gather on the fore court of the museum for a display of fine vintage bikes as usual the Grady bike will be in attendance. There will be no organised ride this year just the display but as it will be a shorter event clubs may wish to arrange their own runs to or from the event. Alex Marshall previous Events Coordinator for COF. 4 Lyndon s Overnighter to Collie - 3-5 June (Monday 5 June is a public holiday). 0417908525 Expressions of interest are called for this event to assist with planning. Please contact Lyndon asap. June 3-5 is a long weekend and the opportunity to kick back in the country. We have 150 acres a couple of kilometres out of Collie and very near Mornington Road, a route used in recent times by the Bunbury IHC for their vintage rally. The plan is flexible but depending on the group we can trailer old bikes down Saturday morning or do a new bike run or a combination of both. We have a big shed down there for swags and bike parking and construction of the bonfire is well advanced. Ride wise we could do a couple of half dayers Saturday and Sunday through the South West forests, lunch in the Ferguson Valley and a beer at the Mumby Pub. There is talk of Jimmy bringing his spit down for a lamb or pork feast. Failing that, curries may be the order of the day. Return to Perth either Sunday afternoon or Monday. Collie in June can be cold, really, really cold so plan on dressing warm. It may be bucketing down with rain too in which case the plan may be revisited! Safety Report Time I reckon to think about Counter steering What the heck is all this about and how often do I need to remind myself what it is all about. Question. If you had a square shouldered tyre fitted to front of a motorcycle would counter steering work? You tell me. As I understand it and quite often I just push on the right or left handlebar trying to understand the effects of counter steering and, more importantly how to use it effectively, counter steering works due to gyroscopic forces and a tyre that has a round curved cross section to the tread area and not a flat square cross section. Go figure that when you try to say to the unwashed that if you are motorcycling along a straight road and you try pushing into the right handgrip that you will actually turn in harder to the right the harder you push then the great unwashed will respond with a comment such as Bollocks. They will go to great lengths (5 inches) to tell you that if you push the right side handlebars to the right then you will turn to the left. Quite logical of course, and completely and utterly wrong. Take it a step further and pull back on the left hand grip, leaving the right hand loose and see which way the bike goes. Wow. So to keep it short and sweet I suggest next time you re out and about on the two wheels give the push and pull of the handlebars a go and amuse yourselves like I do. (It s pretty much all that s left at this age) Practice certainly works in this case and hopefully it all kicks into gear and comes into play when that bend tightens more than you expected and some better bike controlled is required. Bunbury Two Day Rally 6 Quite a few members set off from Perth early and had set up camp and settled in by midday. We erected our marquee in the marshalling area and instantly received positive acclaim for our display. The IHC Bunbury did a superb job coordinating the long and short routes through the forest and vineyards. There were many bikes on the road and although we were warned that the courses would double back and overlap there were still some confused riders. The Saturday long course was to Dunsborough and back via Busselton. The route was over 200km long and took us through the wonderful scenery of the Tuart forests, paddocks, skinny back roads, over small bridges and through tree tunnel lanes. Nearing Dunsborough we rode up the Leeuwin massif encountering vineyards and lanes many of us have not seen before. Just to make sure that they had not missed anything of the scenery some members took it upon themselves to repeat some of the roads. Some members started the short course and ended on the long course on the Sunday. The gravel section put a few fastidious riders in a spin with one heard to comment later We no have gravel in Mykonos! The camping was good as usual and we set up closer together. Passers-by dropped in to see the array of bikes. This year there were more Harleys than Indians fielded by EAMC members. Of course the ice box was delved into from very early in the piece accompanied by much mirth and merriment. The morning teas supplied at the Saturday and Sunday stops were first class country tucker. Many thanks go to the organisers and the supporters that supplied the fantastic food. The Saturday evening meal either the one provided by IHC or in town or at camp was good. There were very few issues with our bikes over the whole weekend and the weather held out until most of us got home however some got caught in the Sunday afternoon deluge- the bikes needed a wash anyway. We were successful in being awarded some trophies. Award winners are below The Margaret & Norm Hart Perpetual Trophy Vintage Class Winner (1919 1930) #61 - Hamish Cowan Best Presented American Machine #76 - Rob Veitch https://ihc.wildapricot.org/resources/documents/down loads/two%20day%20rally/2017/awards%20for%2020 17%202%20Day%20Rally%20(1).pdf

Early American Motorcycle Club Le May Car Museum in Seattle WA, USA. 10 After visiting Steve in Spanaway and seeing the many great bikes he has (as you saw in the last Flatchat), Glen and I continued our road trip across Canada and the US. While driving from Spanaway to Vancouver we spotted a sigh to the Le May Car Museum and decided to go for a look. The museum contains predominantly cars but all vehicles are rare and high quality restorations. There are only a few bikes in the Museum, including a 1969 Honda 750 and a Pope. Here are a few car and bike photos to give you an idea of the collection. 1921 Stutz Fire Engine Next month I ll cover the bike collection we found by chance at a Harley dealership in Vancouver.
