RAHA Parents...WATCH YOUR EMAIL as the Traveling mid-season survey will be emailed out before the end of the calendar year and the IP mid-season survey will be emailed out during the first week of January. Your feedback is important to RAHA and we invite all of our parents to let us know how your hockey season is going. Page 1

A Message From the RAHA Board of Directors We have hit the mid-season mark of another hockey season and 2017-18 will go down as another record year for RAHA skater numbers. 750 Boys and girls registered to play hockey this year and are spread out across (25) Traveling and (18) Initiation Program teams. WOW.That is 43 Youth hockey teams supporting our young boys and girls to play the great game of HOCKEY. Our numbers rank us around 14th out of 150+ MN youth hockey associations in participation numbers. For the first time EVER, we have a second Jr. Gold team skating as we were able to assemble a team for 15 more skaters who wanted to continue their hockey careers. A huge thank you to everyone who put in the time and effort to make this happen. Our goal at RA- HA is to always give every boy and girl who wants to play hockey a place to play hockey and we have achieved that goal once again this year. Giving kids a chance to participate in a team activity over 5-6 months is simply awesome, but does come with a bit of a price. With only ONE full size municipal ice sheet within our city limits, sharing our ice is very challenging and there are many early mornings, late evening and travel to other city rinks to make all this possible. So THANK YOU to all of our PARENTS who make the HUGE time commitment for your sons and daughters to play hockey in Rosemount. We also want to thank The Pond and their staff for giving RAHA the opportunity to skate close to home. With so much travel to IGH, Hastings, Lakeville, Cottage Grove, Burnsville, St Paul and even Northfield for ice. We are grateful to have a great private facility in our community that supports RAHA and helps our parents alleviate a bit of the time commitment getting their kids to and from hockey. THANK YOU to The Pond for all you do for RAHA. Lastly, a Shout-Out to the Nuts and Bolts of our operation. Thank You to all of our Coaches, Managers, Board Members, Booster Members and At-Large Helpers for volunteering your time to make this ALL HAP- PEN! Without our GREAT PARENTS donating their time, there is no RAHA. Thank you as well to Kris Dupuis (Ice Scheduler), Doug Ebner (Accountant), MJ Carlson and Lori Kalata (Concession Stand Managers), Josh Martin (Gambling Managers) and our pull-tab gals (Julie, Andrea and Mary) for ALL YOU DO over the course of the season to keep this train moving. Good Luck to all of our teams over the second half of the season and HAPPY NEW YEAR! MN Wild Youth Hockey Spotlight Game FARMINGTON -- Celebrity coaches, familiar faces from Wild game days and even Nordy came to town Dec 2nd to surprise Farmington and Rosemount's 12U girls teams in the Wild's first Youth Hockey Spotlight game of the season. Both teams players had no idea what was in store for the evening and thought they were on their way to a regular D8 game. They both received an awesome surprise and a night they will remember forever. Director of player development Brad Bombardir was behind the bench of the visiting Rosemount Irish, while Wild assistant coach John Anderson coached the home-team Farmington Tigers. Bombardir's Irish would ultimately emerge with a 7-2 victory. In front of packed stands, John de- Causmeaker belted out the national anthem like he was back at Xcel Energy Center, and Erica McKenzie led the Page 8

crowd in the "Let's Play Hockey!" call. After a "reverse" presentation of the team's new Our Ice tradition by Wild president Matt Majka -- who poured water from Xcel Energy Center onto center ice at Schmitz-Maki Arena -- the puck was dropped and the game was on. The Wild unveiled its Youth Hockey Spotlight initiative last season with a pair of contests in the Twin Cities metro. It'll bring its game day experience to at least one more youth contest later this season. That, too, will be a surprise for the players participating. Page 9

Place in a Tournament and bringing home some Hardware? RAHA wants to know about it. Send in your Results to webadmin@rosemounthockey.org Results are also posted on the RAHA homepage news scroll and Trophy Case page under the NEWS tab. Season to Date Trophy Count 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place Consolation 3 2 5 3 Peewee AA Earns Third Place at Big Pumpkin in Moorhead The Irish Peewee AA traveled to Moorhead over Halloween weekend to play in the 24-team Big Pumpkin. The Irish were pre-seeded #4 and opened up with a 9-0 thrashing of Blaine. Seven different skaters lit the lamp for the Irish with Gabe Jonasen pitching the shutout. Next up was Chaska-Chanhassen and another Irish victory 7-3 with Charlie Stramel leading the way with 2 goals and 2 assists. Onto the semi's and a bout with #1 state ranked Hermantown. Down 4-1 in the 3rd, the boys would fight back with 2 goals to make it 4-3, but a late Hermantown goal with a minute to go would earn the Hawks a 5-3 victory. The Irish would wrap-up the 3rd place hardware with a 5-4 win over Andover with William Whitelaw notching the hat trick. Great Job and congrats to all the players and coaches. Page 10

Squirt C Green - Breezy Point Ice Fest Consolation Champions The Rosemount Squirt C Green team won the Consolation game at the Breezy Point Ice Fest November 17 19. The team played 4 games in the tournament and won three of their four match-ups, losing only to the eventual tournament champions STMA. Throughout the tournament, the Irish displayed a high level of sportsmanship and built relationships both on and off the ice. It was a great start to the year! Peewee B1 Green Takes Third at Stillwater Stampede Page 11

12UB Gobbles up Third Place at Hopkins Turkey Tourney The Irish 12UB ladies started their tournament season out with a 3rd place finish at the Hopkins Turkey Tourney. An exciting quarter-final game against Moundsview-Irondale would go the Irish way with a 2-1 victory. The girls would fall short in the semi's to cross-town foe Lakeville 3-1, but bounce back in the 3rd place game shutting out Buffalo 2-0. Great start in adding an early trophy to your shelf. Page 12

10 UB Blue - Third Place at Hopkins Thanksgiving Tournament The Irish started out with a strong offensive showing and a shutout victory against Buffalo. Following that the Irish suffered a tough loss against Osseo - Maple Grove putting them in the third place game on Sunday. The team showed up ready to go that morning, scoring seven goals! The defense also showed their skills only allowing Moundsview/Irondale s powerful offense to score 1 goal! Great job girls! Page 13

10 UB Green Claims the Championship at our own Irish Ice Classic The 10UB Green team capped their Thanksgiving weekend by winning the Irish Ice Classic with a record of 3-1 in pool play and a 5-0 victory over Forest Lake in the championship game. It was a true overall team effort with two different goalies posting shutouts and many different girls stepping up to score key goals and make great defensive plays! Over the course of 5 games the team only allowed 7 goals while scoring 23 goals and made their coaches very proud with their collective defensive effort. In addition to capturing the championship trophy on their home ice, they also relied on the collective effort of their fans to capture the prestigious Hot Dog Eating Contest trophy which became an instant team favorite! Page 14

Squirt C Gold Take the Championship at the Minneapolis Cup Congrats to our Squirt C Gold who won the Minneapolis Cup over Thanksgiving weekend. Big wins over host Minneapolis 11-0 and Edina 8-2 setup a Sunday title tilt against Burnsville. An exciting game was knotted up at 6 apiece at the end of regulation and the boys would thrill the Irish faithful with an OT winner and add another Minneapolis Cup to the Trophy Case. Page 15

10UB Green Earn Second Trophy of the Season Congrats to the 10U Green ladies for picking up their 2nd trophy of the season with a Consolation Win at Anoka. After a opening round 6-1 loss to Anoka-Rogers, the Irish got a 4-3 win over Roseville and a 3-1 win over Hopkins to claim the hardware. 10UB Green will try to make it 3 straight trophies when they play in the St Paul Hearbreaker in January. Page 16

Squirt C Gold Takes Third at New Hope Classic Squirt C Gold took 3rd place in the New Hope Classic after playing 5 games in 40 hours. The Boys started the tourney off with their best game of the season in a 12 to1 win over Buffalo. The Irish followed that up with a 12 to 0 win against Blaine. A late Saturday night loss to Prior Lake 2 to 4 and early Sunday morning loss to Chaska/Chanhassen 4 to 7 setup a Sunday afternoon 3rd place game against White Bear Lake where Rosemount would earn the hardware in an 8-1 victory. Page 17

Squirt C Blue - Consolation Champions at Coon Rapids Invitational The Squirt C Blue won the consolation championship at the Coon Rapids Invitational this past weekend. The tournament summary is as follows: G.1 Lost a heart-breaker in OT, 4-3 to the Lakeville Prowlers. G.2 The boys rebounded with a strong effort on Saturday afternoon on the outdoor ice sheet with a 12-0 win over the host team Coon Rapids Cardinals. G.3 Consolation championship game against Mound-Westonka saw a tight, fast game that was 1-1 for the first 2 periods. Midway through the 3rd,Rosemount s Burke Sickler got past the D for Westonka and scored the eventual game-winner. Page 18

Squirt B Green Wins 16 Team Hibbing Tournament It is hard enough to win an 8 game or 12 game tourney, but it is extremely difficult to enter a tournament with 15 other teams and come out on top. Well that is exactly what the Irish Squirt B Green did Dec 8-10th in Hibbing, Mn. A Friday night opening win over Edina White 4-2 would start things off right and it would only get better on Saturday morning with a17-0 thrashing of over-matched Eveleth-Gilbert. The Irish would top it off Saturday afternoon by defeating host Hibbing 12-5 earning the #1 seed in Pool A and a birth in the Final Four. A 4-2 win over a tough Virginia team would put the Irish up against Mesabi East where the boys would coast to a 7-2 Championship Victory. Congrats on a GREAT tournament. Page 19

Squirt B Blue Runner-up at Salute To Hockey Tourney The weekend of December 8-10 that Irish Squirt B Blue participated in the Salute to Hockey Tournament in West St. Paul. They won their first 3 games (5-2 vs Prior Lake, 7-3 vs. Farmington and 7-4 vs. Lakeville North). This awesome 3-game run earned the boys the #1 overall seed and a trip To the Chip. The bad news however was this would mark the 3rd game in 7 days we would face Farmington and it is always difficult to beat a team 3 times. It was a hard fought game, but the Tigers would come out on top in a 3-2 thriller. Kudos to the boys on a great tournament and showing great sportsmanship in defeat. Page 20

Squirt B Blue Take Second Straight Runner-up Honor in Rochester The weekend of December 16th and 17th the Irish Squirt B Blue headed south down Highway 52 for a busy weekend of hockey at the Rochester Tournament. A great Saturday would earn 2 W's with victories over Rochester Red (7-1) and White Bear Lake (9-1). Sunday morning would start out HOT with a win against Rochester Black (3-1) to make it to the Championship game for the second weekend in a row. Pine City would be our opponent and another nail biter would be all tied up at 1 entering the 3rd. The third period was back and fourth until the Dragons would take the 2-1 lead and an empty netter with 3 minutes left would seal the deal. The Irish once again held their heads high and maintained their composure with Irish pride, despite the frustration of another 2nd Place Finish. The Boys will try and get that monkey off their back Jan 5-7 in the Highland Tourney. Page 21
