ONE HUNDRED FORTY-EIGHTH NEBRASKA STATE FAIR August 25 September 4, 2017 Grand Island, Nebraska MORGAN HORSE 1

THIS SHOW HAS BEEN RATED THREE STAR MORGAN HORSE SHOW BY THE AMHA Thursday, August 31 & Friday, September 1 Show Superintendent: Jim Hanna, Columbus, NE Phone: 402-910-3214 Judge: Erlene Seybold-Smythe, Espanola, NM NE Show Secretary: Mona Schafer, Doniphan, NE Paddock Master: Gina Schlater, Seward, NE Ring Steward: Gail Neilson, Mankato, KS Trail Designer: Jim Hanna, Columbus, NE Announcer: Tim Wayne, Shenandoah, IA On Call Vet: Dr Steve Krull, Phone: 308-367-6754 Farrier: To Be Announced Organist: Dan Benes, Lincoln, NE 2

Welcome to the 2017 Nebraska State Fair Morgan Horse Show and to the State Fair! This year the Morgan Horses will be showing Thursday in the new Thompson Foods Open Air Arena and on Friday in the indoor Thompson 4-H Arena. Again, we will have both venues all to ourselves, so we will not have any other breed classes to give us breathing room between our classes. I know this will pose some difficulties, so be sure to ask the Paddock Master for gate holds as soon as you know you will have a conflict. The schedule has been rearranged slightly this year, based on suggestions from last year s exhibitors. A few new opportunity classes have been added, which will allow non-morgan horses to participate. Opportunity classes are intended for less skilled riders and are a good way for them to get some show experience without the pressure of a highly competitive event. We have also added the Hunter Hack Open class and some classic and western dressage equitation and suitability opportunity classes. Check online for the schedule of when the equine check-in trailer will be staffed. Be sure to read the rules on health papers carefully, and follow them to the letter, as we do not want any of our horses to get ill from a trip to the Fair. See Health Requirements. All tickets and parking passes will be picked up at the check-in trailer when you arrive, as too many have been getting lost or stolen in the mail. Our show is rated 3-Star by the AMHA this year, so the first two places qualify for Grand Nationals! This decision was made to reduce the cost of the show for both exhibitors and the State Fair. U.S. Equestrian (formerly USEF) membership is not required, though AMHA membership is required for Morgan Classes. No USEF drug fees are required, but horses must fully comply with Nebraska State Fair health regulations. Even though this is not a U.S. Equestrian rated show the rules for AMHA recognized classes can be found in the current USEF rulebook. Once again we welcome Dan Benes to play the organ for us. Dan loves playing for our horses, so please do thank him, as he does it for far more than his pay. His music makes the show a much nicer experience. Invite your Morgan owner friends to join us! It is a great show at very reasonable cost, and there are many other activities to enjoy! Jim Hanna, Nebraska State Fair Morgan Horse Show Superintendent 3
