STATE OF TEXAS KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS 38 th ANNUAL SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Brother Knights, I know it s only January, but, it s time to start getting ready for the 2010 K of C State Softball Tournament. As a reminder, entry forms for the 2010 Knights of Columbus State Softball Tournament are due by April 1, 2010. Remember, as a team manger, it is your responsibility to have all the documentation needed to complete your team s entry form. To complete your teams entry, you must include completed entry form, this means all names, membership numbers and council numbers, the council or councils supreme membership rosters (dated January 1, 2010), and a check for the full entry fee of $275.00. The entry fee for entries postmarked by April 1, 2010 or earlier is $275.00, entries postmarked after April 1, 2010 is $350.00. Entries postmarked after May 1, 2010 will be returned with no exception, please don t let this happen to your team. Brothers, last year, some of you submitted half completed entry forms, and no Supreme Membership Rosters just to beat the April 1 st deadline, so you wouldn t have to pay the late entry fee of $350.00. You also waited until the last minute to submit your team s entry, so there was not time to return them to avoid the late fee. Starting this year, if you submit an incomplete entry form, it will be returned to you and if you have waited until the last minute to submit it and by it being returned you go past the April 1 st deadline you will be subject to the late fee of $75.00, it s your choice. Last year three teams submitted all of their information before the end of February, so I know it can be done. I am going to again ask when completing the team entry form please type or print. Sometimes a player s name does not appear on the player s registration sheet where it should be because it is misspelled and please do not use nicknames? If a persons name shows up on the supreme membership roster as John Doe then don t sign him up as George Doe. Also please make sure your players know which division they are playing in, the teams name and their council number. As far as hotel accommodations, there is no block of rooms. So you will need to make your reservations early. Thank you all and remember the team signing up first will receive a special prize. It could be you, if you hurry! TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES: Entry Forms:
All entries must be postmarked by April 1, 2010. All entries postmarked after April 1, 2010, will be assessed a $75.00 late registration fee, thus making the entry fee for that team $325.00. Entries which do not have all of the required documentation submitted on time will be deemed late and could be subject to the $75.00 late fee. This means if you have players from other councils their council s supreme membership rosters must be included with your entry form as well. All entry forms must be filled out completely, with each player s name, membership number and council number. Eligibility: 1. All Divisions: a) Each players name must appear on the Councils January 1, 2010 Supreme Membership Roster. b) Each player must posses a current and valid Knights of Columbus membership/travel card for presentation during the tournament. c) Each player must posses one of the following pictured identification cards for presentation during the tournament: Drivers License, valid Texas State ID Card, or a Military ID Card. d) Players will also need to register prior to the beginning of their first game. A special wristband will be issued to each player and this band must remain on the player s wrist throughout the tournament. If a wristband comes off, the player will need to return to the registration booth with their proper identification and be issued a new band. 2. In Addition: a) **Open Division If a council has one (1) and only one (1) team in the Open Division then that council may pick-up to and including five (5) players from another council provided that the council(s) to which the pick-ups belong does not have a team entered in that same division. That means if a council has multiple teams in the Open Division then no team from that council can pick-up players from another council. b) In the 30+Over, a council may use up to and including five (5) players from another council provided that the council(s) to which the pick-ups belong does not have a team entered in that same division. c) In the 40+Over and the 50+Over Divisions, a team may be made up of players from other councils provided that at least 50% of the players participating in the tournament are members of the sponsoring council. d) Players in the 30+Over, 40+Over, and 50+Over Divisions must be of the required age on or before December 31, 2010. e) Provided that eligibility rules are met, a person may play in two (2) or more different divisions, with the exception being No player may play in both the Open Division and the 30+Division. f) Only the team manager or his designated coach is allowed to approach the games umpire about a decision or call in question. The home plate umpire will have complete control of the game. The team manager or coach is to control his own team. This is a fraternal tournament and we ask that all Knights remember that umpires are only human and can make mistakes. g) We will be using the one (1) ball one (1) strike count, with a courtesy foul. h) The team s scheduled game time will be deemed forfeit time.
i) Courtesy Runner - In the 30+Over, 40Over+ and 50+Over, a courtesy runner may be used once and only once per inning. The courtesy runner must be the player who made the last out. j) Home Run Limits: Open Division - 5 Home Runs per game. B Division 5 Home Runs per game. C Division 5 Home Runs per game. 30+Over - 5 Home Runs per game. 40+Over - 3 Home Runs per game. 50+Over - 3 Home Runs per game. Any home runs hit over the stated limit for that division will be considered an out. Run Rule: A game will be called complete if a team is leading by: Bats: 15 or more runs after 4 innings Or 10 or more runs after 5 innings. Only approved ASA Softball Bats will be allowed. A listing of the approved ASA Softball Bats will be published and distributed at the managers meeting on the Friday night prior to the State Softball Tournament. A complete listing of approved softball bats by the ASA can be obtained by accessing the website of www.asasoftball.com. The Texas K of C State Softball Committee reserves the right to add any additional illegal softball bats to this list at any time before or during the Texas State Softball Tournament. This will be done to preserve the safety of the players and participants, if deemed necessary. Gentleman you know if the bats you are using are legal or not. We should not have to go around and inspect everyone s bats. We did not want to do this but for the safety of everyone concerned we have come up with a couple of guidelines which will be strictly enforced in this year s tournament and all future Knights of Columbus Softball Tournaments. Illegal Bats: If a player comes to bat and the bat is deemed to be an illegal bat the batter will be called out, the bat will be confiscated for the remainder of that game, and the batter will be ejected for the remainder of that game.
Bats: (Continued) Altered Bats: There is another issue that has come up and deals with altered bats. Altered bats will not be tolerated and to make this point clear we have enacted this policy. If a player comes to bat and that bat is deemed to have been altered in any shape or form, let me repeat any shape or form, the game will forfeited, the entire team will be ejected from the tournament and any player listed on that teams player roster will not be permitted to participate in our tournament for the next two (2) years. No matter what division they want to play in. Also the person that came to bat with the altered bat will be ejected from any other play in this year s tournament. That means if that player was listed to play with another team in another division, he is not eligible to play. Thus if that team then does not have enough players to continue then they will have to forfeit their games as well. Also any trophies won will be forfeited as well. As you can see we are taking these issues very seriously and hope you and your players will as well. Let s have a happy and safe tournament. Balls: The tournament will provide one new ball and the best ball from the prior game at each field. To off set the use of multi-wall bats we will be using a softer core ball. Brackets: Brackets for all divisions will be drawn prior to the tournament and will be e-mailed to the manager listed on the entry form and to the e-mail address that is provided. So please make sure this is where you want all your information to be sent. Player Registration: There will be booths set up at Krieg Fields on Saturday morning starting at 7:00 am for players to register and be issued their wrist bands. Each player will need to personally register and will need to have with them all of the necessary identification (Membership/Travel Card, Drivers License, valid Texas ID Card, or a Military ID Card).
