2014 (continued from page 1) The carnival atmosphere, the games, Mr. Relay contest, the Super Hero Caped Crusader Fashion Show, 50/50 raffles all made for a night of fun, laughter and good times. Carrabba s (I-10 and Ray Road) sponsored the survivors/caregiver s dinner and the truck vendors added to the delicious menu of foods available to all. Complementing our relay, for the first time, 5 members of the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders team cheered our survivors. caregivers and teams as they walked the track to open the relay. Those 5 beautiful woman stayed on for a while for pictures and autographs. I have it on good authority they will be back again next year! Remember you heard it here first. Please remember to patronize the 40 sponsors (pages 2 & 3) who played a huge part in our success and let them know how much you appreciate what they do for the Chandler Relay for Life. Our committee (not all committee members are pictured above) hopes that you had a great time and fun at relay in the carnival atmosphere all while we raised money to Finish the Fight! ******************************************************************************************************************************* 2015 (continued from page 1) Once again the Chandler Relay for Life succeeded in our efforts to have the best relay in the Valley. More than 1,000 relayers, comprising 114 teams all contributed to our success. 39 of our relayers achieved Grand Club status each one having raised more than $1,000. And to make our success even better, we were honored to have more than 100 cancer survivors in attendance. Under the leadership of Mike Perry we raised more than $200,000 in 2014 making us a 3-time Mega Event. Inspiring videos of the new Hope Lodge in Salt Lake City, relayers, survivors and caregivers along with our very special keynote speaker, Diego Morris, a 13 year old cancer survivor helped us put in focus the results of all that we do. Ashley Minchella, Senior Manager, Southern Arizona area told us how our accomplishments supported the Great West Division of the American Cancer Society. Alan Zaben, the 2014 Hero of Hope presented the 2015 Hero of Hope Award to Mike Perry. Mike s team has raised more than $100,000 for the Chandler Relay and under his leadership our relay has raised more than $600,000 in the past 3 years. 2

MEET RACHEL CARTER RELAY FOR LIFE SPECIALIST I am so excited to be joining the American Cancer Society as the Relay for Life Specialist. I have been lucky enough to do a bit of traveling recently and since then I have discovered this unquenchable desire to help others. Seeing people from all walks of life, experiencing such different cultures and lifestyles showed me how truly blessed I am. I've always loved the quote "the meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it away" and I'm ecstatic to lend my talents to such an inspiring organization. I can already tell that working with the American Cancer Society I am going to meet people who will forever transform my life with their courageous stories and commitment to changing the world. The American Cancer Society makes strides every single day to help others and I feel honored to be a part of something so much bigger than myself. Rachel, we welcome you to our relay family and look forward to working with you to continue the outstanding record of the Relay for Life of Chandler. If you are wondering about Melissa, Rachel s predecessor, Melissa has taken a job with Pearson, an International Media Company at their office in Chandler. Melissa is still with the Chandler Relay as a member of the Event Leadership Team. *************************************************************************************************************************************** What s New for 2015? Funny you should ask. We have a new organizational structure with many more opportunities for you to join the Leadership Team. If you have the desire to help us as we plan the Chandler Relay for Life please contact any of the Leadership Team members listed on the first page. 3
