CaSSSA Cup Athletics Results: Monday 20th August saw 88 MSM students compete in blustery conditions at QSAC for the CaSSSA Cup. Results aside, yesterday was such a great day. Everything that MSM stands for was on display to our rivals - Confidence, Competence, Conscience, Compassion and Commitment. It was so pleasing to see the girls rally around each other as a team, in what is a largely individual sport. I witnessed girls smashing personal bests; girls digging deep to find that little bit extra breaking through the pain barrier in the name of the team; and that look of belief in the eyes of girls when what they had just achieved started to sink in. These are the moments that define the culture that has been built by this group. I would like to acknowledge the Spirit Squad, led by our house leaders, and the Year 8 and 10 students that rode the wave of emotions and success with our athletes yesterday. We may not have been the biggest, but we certainly drowned out the competition with volume and enthusiasm. Whilst it is difficult to single out specific results, a special mention must go to the Under 15 girls. This age group won all 8 of their 100m division races and both 4x100m relays in what can only be described as total dominance. The girls will be looking for a strong performance to qualify for the finals series in October. If you can get down to the Sophia Centre on Wednesday from 4pm, the girls would love the support. We wish the team the best of luck in what will be a tight contest. AFL One Night in August: Our Senior AFL team defended their 2017 title with a strong showing in this tournament. The girls won all 3 of their pool matches and then won the final 28-14 to bring home the trophy. Congratulations to the girls in this team and their coach, Ms. Williams.
