Winning a Grand Championship earns 4 additional points. The school with the most points at the end of the tournament will be awarded the prestigious SHURI CASTLE CUP. The more students your Dojo brings the better your chances of bringing home the cup! In 2001, Eb Welch and Mike Eggleston s Dojo were battling neck and neck for the cup. When the dust settled and the points were tallied, Eggleston s Dojo (EKS) won by a margin of only 8 points! In 2002, Mike Eggleston s Dojo (EKS) and Rodney Cheeseman s (Kintora) Dojo were going back and forth all da. At the men s black belt kumite finals Kintora Dojo took home the trophy by edging out EKS by only 2 points! In 2003, the defending Shuri Cup Dojo was without their leader due to Rodney Cheeseman s Army Reserve unit activation. Without their leader, Cheeseman s Dojo fought a tough battle. But, when the dust settled, Eggleston s EKS Dojo was the winner. In 2004, it came down to the black belt men s division at the very end of the tournament!!!cheeseman s Dojo vowed to win the Cup back and edged out Eggleston s Dojo by only 6 points. In 2005, they said it couldn t be done...until Rodney Cheeseman s Kintora Dojo ran away with the Cup two consecutive years. They were the first back-to-back winner! In 2006, Rodney Cheeseman s Kintora Dojo set the standard with an unprecedented THREE-PEAT!!! In 2007, straight out of the deep south, Champion Dojo with their famous Sensei Aziz Kheder just barely won the Cup by stopping the Rodney Cheeseman Kintora Express quest for a fourth straight victory. In 2008, Rob Silverman s LKMA Dojo debut at the Battle at Shuri Castle resulted in going home with the Shuri Cup. In 2009, Rob Silverman s LKMA Dojo came even stronger than the year before and won by a landslide of points. Sensei Silverman said that he was going to tie Cheeseman s three-peat record and then some! In 2010, THREE-PEAT accomplished! Silverman s LKMA Dojo vowed to become the first 4-time Champion in 2011. In 2011, newcomer Axsom Martial Arts burst onto the scene with a big group of great students to win the Cup for the first time! In 2012, Rob Silverman s LKMA Dojo came to reclaim the Cup for a record 4th time! In 2013, who will it be? Silverman will be there...will YOU?!?
