No yelling, whistling etc. during or after performances. Performers must observe Theatre Etiquette and cover costumes when in the theatre audience. No entry to the Theatre whilst performers are on stage. Inappropriate behaviour towards volunteers and committee members will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification. The Orange Regional Arts Foundation supports and encourages a wide variety of arts related activities and projects in the region (including the City of Orange Eisteddfod). As part of its successful and continued involvement the Foundation is actively seeking new members to become patrons of the arts and to support its expanding commitment. City of Orange Eisteddfod General Rules Entries 1. This competition is open to Amateurs only. ie people who do not derive their major income from performance. 2. ENTRIES: In 2018 entries will be made on-line at www.stardom.com.au If you have difficulties with on-line entries please contact us for help. An on-line admin fee will be $5 per invoice. Method of payment will be credit/debit card only. (Entrants with unpaid entry fees at closing date will be excluded from the program) Manual entries may be sent to Entry Secretary. PO Box 8556, Orange. NSW 2800 accompanied by cheque or money order for entry fee plus $5 admin fee. NB As of 1 st January 2017 Eisteddfod copyright compliance has deemed it necessary to increase our fees. No entries will be accepted or recorded unless accompanied by full entry fee. 3. No refund will be made for an entry fee paid after the entry has been accepted. 4. In all competitions which are subject to an age limit, the age of the competitor shall be taken at the 31 st December, 2018. The Committee reserves the right to call upon any competitor at any time to provide a copy of his/her Birth Certificate and can withhold any prize until certificate has been produced. 5. Local is a competitor living in an area with a 2800 postcode. 6. Restricted means never having won a first prize in that section at any age at any Eisteddfod or competition up to the closing date of entries. (This refers to the title of the section, not the routine/piece.) Competitors eligible are permitted to enter Restricted or Non-restricted sections, or both, but must not repeat the same routine/piece. 7. In all sections where 2 or more are competing, the name and date of birth of each competitor must be given at the time of entry, except in the case of groups. 8. Competitors must not have been pupils of the adjudicator in the 6 months prior to the Eisteddfod. 9. Entrants are responsible for royalty and copyright payments and liabilities if any. 10. Competitors enter at their own risk. 11. Notification of appearance is not given by mail unless a program is ordered on entering. NB. For online entries, programs may be ordered from the EXTRAS menu or may be downloaded from Orange Eisteddfod website www.orangeisteddfod.com 12. All care has been taken in the compilation of the Syllabus and Program and the Committee reserves the right to rectify any errors or omissions. 13. Please check receipt of entries carefully and rectify errors or omissions immediately, as no alterations can be made after program is printed. Performances 14. The Committee reserves the right to amend the program at any time, to appoint a substitute or additional adjudicator, to divide or combine any sections or to alter competition times. 15. No competitor may compete more than once in any one section unless specific rules apply. 16. Competitors must be ready to take their place on the stage at the appointed time and in the order set down in the program. 17. No person may take another person s place in the program. 18. No medals are to be worn on stage. 19. No rehearsals are allowed on the stage of any venue during the Eisteddfod. 20. Please note that the use of inappropriate material in performances could lead to disqualification by the adjudicator. 21. No videos or photographs are to be taken of any performance with the exception of the official photographers. This includes the use of mobile phones. 22. All mobile phones are to be switched off in all venues during performances. 23. Audience members are asked not to enter or leave the venue while competitors are performing. Page 3
Adjudication 24. The decision of the adjudicator is final unless a protest is lodged. Protests must be in writing, setting out full details of the protest and accompanied by a deposit of $20. If the protest is not upheld the deposit is forfeited. 25. Verbal grievances/complaints to individual Committee members, volunteers or other parents are not in the spirit of the Eisteddfod competition and will not be tolerated and could lead to exclusion from any further participation in the Eisteddfod. 26. The Adjudicator has the authority of the Committee to withhold or alter any prize which he/she is of the opinion that sufficient merit has not been displayed. 27. A report sheet from the Adjudicator will be available free of charge for competitors in each section. 28. If any competitor, teacher or parent approaches the Adjudicator before or during any section, the competitor may be disqualified. Electrical Equipment 29. All electrical equipment brought into the performance venues must be checked by a Certified Electrician prior to the Eisteddfod and have a current electrical tag in place. Any electrical equipment not meeting the Workplace Health and Safety guidelines will not be allowed to be used. Competitors 30. The Committee reserves the right to use the competitor s details in the compilation of the program, including photographs for publicity purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, it is the competitor s (or carer s) responsibility to notify an Orange Eisteddfod Committee person. Spirit of the Eisteddfod The motto of our Eisteddfod is Learn and Grow Through Performance and we aim to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where competitors can achieve their best. The Eisteddfod Committee values the positive contribution of a supportive and respectful audience to all competitors. SPECIFIC DANCE RULES RESTRICTED means never having won a FIRST PRIZE in that section at any age at any previous Eisteddfod up to the closing date of entries. (This refers to the title of the section, not the routine/piece) Competitors eligible are permitted to enter Restricted or Non-restricted sections, or both, but must not repeat the same routine. If there are fewer than three (3) competitors in any section, the section may be cancelled or combined with the next age group or a similar section. All music to be in CD format.. Please note: CDRWs DO NOT PLAY on the Theatre s sound system. Please ensure all CDS are CDRs. The sound system at the Civic Theatre must be used for playing of all CDs. The Committee will provide a competent person to play music. Each dance must be on a separate CD. Please ensure a backup copy is available. All CDs are to be clear and audible, CLEARLY MARKED with competitor s name, as well as SECTION NUMBER AND COMPETITOR S NUMBER. Music is to be handed in to the GREENROOM AREA at least 2 sections before competing. Any specific instructions must be attached and explicit. Please leave CDs in cases. It is the competitor s responsibility to hand in music on time and collect it after performance. Page 4
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: All electrical equipment brought into the Eisteddfod venues must be checked by a certified electrician prior to the Eisteddfod and have a current electrical tag in place. Please leave DRESSING ROOMS and GREENROOM tidy. No responsibility will be taken for lost or damaged property. Please ask at Eisteddfod office for lost property. Spraying of shoes within the Theatre is PROHIBITED. Groups who are not competing in the current section called will not be allowed in the Green Room due to the congestion it causes. Prompting, except by the adjudicator, will not be permitted. Presentation of prizes will be on stage for Major prizes Championships, Scholarships and trophy awards. All other prizes are to be collected from the Eisteddfod office following adjudication ie report sheets, medals, monies, certificates. PROPS RULING Props will be limited to ONE prop PLUS a choice of either a small prop OR a hand-held prop. A chair will be allowed if needed to complete a set. (ie table and chair set together etc.) NO straw, glitter, lighted candles, sparklers, lighted cigarettes, or any naked flame will be permitted.) For further clarification please contact a dance committee member. ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE MOVED FROM THE BACKSTAGE AREA AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH SESSION. IMPROVISATIONS (Music chosen by Adjudicator) Ballet/Demi to be danced in plain coloured leotard (a short sheer ballet skirt is permissible no head pieces permitted). Jazz/Tap/Modern to be danced in a one-piece plain coloured leotard. (a short sheer ballet skirt or jazz shorts is permissible. PHOTOGRAPHY KEA Video producers will be in attendance for the Dancing Sections of the eisteddfod and may be ordered by filling in an order form (from program), ringing on 63604662 or emailing philip@keavideoproducers.com Winki-Pop Media will be available to take still photographs. All group performances (except school groups) will be photographed. For solo photographs you will need to register with Wink-Pop Media. If you do not register you will not be photographed this year. Once entries have closed you will be sent an email with a link to register. Please view photographs by visiting www.winkipopmedia.com.au. NO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TO BE TAKEN AT THE PERFORMANCE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS. This includes the use of mobile phones, ipads or tablets. CODE OF CONDUCT The code of conduct applies to all who attend the Eisteddfod. COMPETITORS Please note that the use of inappropriate costuming, lyrics or choreography may lead to disqualification from that section. Following recommendations by Adjudicators, the following rule now applies:- Tights must be worn by all girls in all dance performances (except School Groups) or the competitor will not be eligible to perform. Tights can be footed, footless, stirrup, knee or mid-thigh length. SOCIAL MEDIA Please be aware that defamation of character on social media towards any person involved in our Eisteddfod will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification or legal action. THEATRE ETIQUETTE No yelling, whistling etc. during or after performances. All costumes must be covered when in the theatre audience. Please do not enter or leave the theatre when performers are on stage. PLEASE NOTE: When signing or agreeing to the declaration when entering, you are giving The City of Orange Eisteddfod Committee permission to reproduce any information necessary for compilation of the program including photos for publicity purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, it is the competitor s (or carer s) responsibility to notify a Committee person. TIME LIMITS (unless otherwise stated) SOLOS 6 yrs & under up to 2.5mins. 7 yrs & over up to 3mins. SONG & DANCE SOLOS up to 3.5mins. DUOS/TRIOS up to 3.5mins. GROUPS (INCLUDING SCHOOL GROUPS) up to 5mins. SONG & DANCE/THEATRICAL GROUPS up to 8mins. TIME LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO. A timer will be in use during the entire Eisteddfod. After the set time has elapsed, the music will be faded, adjudication will cease at this point and the competitor must bow and exit the stage. Disqualification will only take place if this rule is not adhered to. TROPHIES Trophies will be awarded to competitors in various age divisions chosen by the adjudicator, for Encouragement, Consistency and Most Promising Dancers. POINTSCORE TROPHIES - in all age divisions. Pointscore Trophies are awarded on the basis of 8 points 1 st ; 5 points 2 nd ; 3 points 3 rd ; & 1 point - H.C. * Orange Pointscore Trophies to be awarded to a local dancer (2800 postcode) who is a permanent pupil of an Orange Dance School i) 12yrs & under and ii) 13yrs & over. Regency Jewellers donate a $50 Gift Voucher to the 13yrs & over winner. DANCE SCHOOL POINTSCORE TROPHIES. * Central West Performing Arts - 12yrs & under and 13yrs & over (all solo/duo sections included). * Colourcity Dance - All age groups (all solo/duo sections included). * Dance HQ All age groups (all solo/duo sections included) SPECIAL AWARDS * The John Hull Trophy will be awarded to a male classical dancer. (Donated by the Hull Family) * Lyndi Walley Shield for Senior Groups will be awarded to the best overall Jazz Group. * Cox Family Shield for Junior Groups will be awarded for the best overall Jazz Group. * Schools Group Trophies will be awarded to Small Schools; Infants K-2; Primary 3-6; Secondary & Special Needs Group. * Garry Stocks Perpetual Trophy for most promising Tap Dancer 13yrs & over. * Damon Griffiths Perpetual Trophy to winner of Open Tap Championship. * Betty Callaghan Memorial Trophy to best overall Entertaining/Song & Dance competitor, 13 yrs & over. CHAMPIONSHIPS Ballet Championships Dancers entering the Ballet Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section in the following: Classical PLUS one of the following : Demi-Character, Ballet Impro or Demi Impro. Competitors in each championship are to perform a Classical & a Demi-Character routine. Tap Championships Dancers entering the Tap Championship must have entered and danced in their Tap own age Section PLUS one of the following: Waltz Tap, Fast Tap, Tap Ensemble. Competitors in each championship are to perform a slow and a fast tap routine. Jazz Championships Dancers entering the Jazz Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section in at least two of the following: Jazz, Cabaret, Hip Hop solos or Jazz Impro. Competitors in each championship are to perform one jazz routine. National Character Championships Dancers entering the National Character Championship must have entered and danced in the National Character section in their own age section. Competitors in each championship are to perform one National Character routine. Modern Championships Dancers entering the Modern Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section in two of the following: Modern Expressive solo, Contemporary, Modern Expressive Improvisation. The adjudicator will conduct a closed class on the stage of the Orange Civic Theatre. Plain coloured leotard and ballet tights, pointe and flat shoes will be required. (Short sheer ballet skirts are permissible). Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in the Scholarship Dance-off. Competitors are to perform (a) one classical and (b) a choice of either a Demi-Character or a Modern Expressive routines may be repeated. RURAL DANCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP 177 RDDP Scholarship 13 yrs & over Entry Fee - $10 The Rural Dance Development Program provides opportunities for rural dancers. It brings dedicated students together with a wide variety of teachers and choreographers one Sunday per month. Each month the venue is at a different location in Central NSW. The value of the scholarship is $1500 and is for a year s tuition in 2019. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Competitors must enter in 13 years and over sections in 2018. To be eligible, competitors must show proficiency in at least 3 genres of dance. The winner will be chosen by the adjudicator. Page 9

All electrical equipment to be used in the theatre during the Eisteddfod MUST be tagged by a certified electrician. Strictly no use of Videos or still photography in the theatre except for official photographers This is a breach of Copyright. WINKI-POP MEDIA will be in attendance for still photographs. KEA VIDEO PRODUCTIONS will be in attendance for video performances at the Civic Theatre. Ruling for Vocals on CDs does not apply to Groups Sections.
