Burris Middle School Families, Pope John Paul and Burris middle schools will once again be collaborating in the attempt to offer the students of both schools more opportunities for athletic involvement. For the 2011-12 season, St. Mary s students will be joining the Burris cross country teams, and the Burris students will be given the opportunity to join the PJP soccer and swim teams. To participate with PJP in either soccer or swimming, Burris students should consult your school's athletic handbook for academic and athletic eligibility requirements. Athletic participation requirements for Burris students will be in effect for participation with PJP/Burris teams. Schedules will be available at the beginning of the school year. The soccer season starts in September and is open to both boys and girls. The PJP/Burris team will play an eight game season against area Christian and Home School teams. The Burris/PJP cross country team will have a call-out meeting on August 18, in room 115 in Burris. Practice will begin on August 22, with meets beginning in September. The team is open to boys and girls. There must be at least 5 boys and 5 girls participating in order to continue with this team. The PJP/Burris swim team season begins in January. This is also open to boys and girls. This is open to grade 5 students also for swimming. If you have any questions regarding the soccer or swimming programs, please call Janet Hicks at 288-2131, or Ray Dawson, Burris Athletic Director, at 285-8607.
