: World Cup English Clubs: 01 Welcome to the first of four BBC World Cup English Club meetings! 1. Get to know one another get chatting! team-mate = someone who is on the same team as you Here is an easy way to find out more about your team-mates: 1. Sit next to someone you don t know 2. Ask them what their name is and three other questions (see left for some ideas) 3. Then they do the same to you Where is the most interesting place you have been? 4. Tell the group about your team-mate Do you have a party trick (a special skill)? What is your favourite food? What is your happiest memory? What would you do if you had a million dollars? Talk to one another to decide your team name. Don t be afraid to be silly e.g. the Hungarian Hammers. 2. Design your team strip As a group, match the following descriptions with the pictures of football shirts: strip (noun) = the clothing worn by a football team which has the team s colours on it 1. We have a chequered strip 2. Our strip has horizontal black stripes 3. We have a white strip with a single black stripe on the sleeves 4. Our strip has vertically striped shirts 5. Our shirts are black on the left side and white on the right side 6. We have a white strip, with a black trim on the collar and sleeves (answers are on page 4) A B C D E F Work together to design your own team strip. Now imagine that your English Club is an international football team. Working together, fill out the form on the answer sheet with information about your team. You can use your real names and nicknames. Try to describe your skills and your footballing style, e.g. Raul the bull Perez is a technically very strong midfielder and an expert at passing If you prefer, you can make up a fantasy team with your favourite players (Beckham, Ronaldinho etc.) will publish your team details on our site. Visitors to the site will be able to award your team points. If your team has the most points at the end of the World Cup, you will win a BBC prize! We hope you enjoyed your first World Cup meeting!
