TRANSPORTATION Children travel to Kellett School by school bus, car or public bus. School Buses Kellett School s bus service is provided by Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited, which currently operates services morning and afternoon: For the Autumn Term, special buses operate to take Reception children home at 12.30pm, Within reason, every effort is made to accommodate all children who wish to travel to and from school by bus. As a consequence, routes may change, or children may be required to take one bus in the morning and another in the afternoon. Any queries regarding the bus service or routes should be directed to Kwoon Chung Motors 2578 1178. The school s Bus Coordinator can be contacted on 2551 8234. The coordinator acts as a liaison between the school, the parents and the bus company. Details of the bus fees and an application form to use the bus service can be obtained from the bus coordinator or downloaded from our website: www.kellettschool.com. Bus fees are payable directly to Kwoon Chung Motors Co Ltd. Bus Routes The bus service is not intended to be a door-to-door service, and children may need to walk to/from their bus stop. The routes are set at the beginning of the year; any families moving or joining school part way through the year will be accommodated on the existing routes if space is available. Safe Seats certain seats on the buses cannot be occupied for safety reasons. Thus a bus may be classed as full when appearances show empty seats. Collection from the bus-stop after school Please be at the bus-stop five minutes before the drop-off time. If nobody is waiting to collect the child, the child will be brought back to school (parents of Key Stage Two children may write to school giving permission for their child to walk home unaccompanied). Play Dates Children from both KS1 and KS2 will be allowed occasional play dates when the bus is not full. However, the following conditions will apply; Play dates involving school buses will only commence the Monday of the third week of each school term Play dates can only be taken by KS1 and KS2 children on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (No play dates involving school buses on Wednesdays) This service is only available for play dates and not for dropping children off for out of school extra curricular activities Children can only invite two friends at a time to use this service A KS1 child can not have a play date on days they are using a KS2 bus because of an extra curricular school based activity. A bus note MUST be received by the Bus Coordinator at least 24 hours before the play date (This CANNOT be FAXED or EMAILED)

Children from KS1 can not use the KS2 bus service for Play dates and KS2 children cannot use KS1 buses If the child who is holding the play date is sick, the play date will automatically be cancelled and the other parents informed and the child going on the play date will go home in the usual manner If the school is closed whilst in session ALL play dates will be CANCELLED and children will go home in the usual way NB. Large groups of children cannot travel on alternate buses to birthday parties. Please do not ask the bus coordinator to accommodate children in these circumstances. Parents are required to make their own transport arrangements for parties Bus notes Bus notes will be used in two circumstances (i) Play Dates providing a bus note is received at least 24 hours before the change. (Please note that children may switch bus routes only when going home with a friend: not for any other reason or activity, including parties), and (ii) if a child doesn t need to use the bus on a particular day. Circumstance KS1 & KS2 Switching routes for a play date Child doesn t need to travel on the bus Child not going on the bus (mother in school) Child changes stops but not bus Bus Note deadline 2.30pm /3.15pm on the day before (Earlier notice is appreciated) Noon on the day concerned 2.15pm on the day concerned Noon on the day A permanent bus note can only be used where the child will not use the bus on a particular day for the whole term (for example, they attend band practice on a Tuesday afternoon for the whole term). If the relevant after-school activity is cancelled, the child will go home on their usual bus. Please keep a copy of this note at home and please inform the Bus Coordinator of any changes as soon as possible. A permanent bus note will need to be renewed at the beginning of each term Bus notes (including permanent bus notes) must be in writing. They may not be faxed or emailed if there is no bus note, the child will be sent home on their normal route. In the event of an emergency, please call the Bus Coordinator on 2551 8234. Please do not fax bus notes or ask the office staff to write a bus note for you. The Bus note and Permanent Bus Note may be found in the Appendix Birthday parties If you organise a party bus, please make sure parents of the children invited submit bus notes for their children. You can also help the Bus Coordinator by providing them a list of the children invited. A parent must be at school to help organise the party children onto the bus and an adult must travel on the bus. Due to the lack of parking in Wah Lok Path, party buses can not pick up children until 15 minutes after the end of the day for the key stage who are involved in the party. ie 2.45pm for KS1 3.30pm for KS2. Please also note that party buses do not fall within the Bus Coordinator s role. Guidance for the use of Party Buses can be found in the Appendix XI.

Moving House Please let the Bus Coordinator know 2 weeks in advance, so they can determine the closest route/bus places available. Kellett School Bus Rules It is important for the care and protection of our children that these rules are understood and observed. Please read these rules carefully and explain them to your children - in particular the code of conduct. The Bus Escort The Bus Escort is responsible for the safety of all children whilst they are on the buses. They must not get off the bus for any reason during the journey, i.e. they cannot leave the bus to escort a child across the road. Children are insured as soon as they get on the bus and until they alight from the vehicle. Children are the responsibility of their parents until they board the bus for the journey to school and after they alight from the bus after the homeward journey. Absence from School If, on any day, your child will not be attending school because of illness or some other reason, please ensure that the Bus Escort is informed either directly at the bus stop or by passing a message via another parent at your child s usual boarding stop, or at an earlier stage of the route. Bus Rules Pupils Code of Conduct Pupils are to obey the instructions of the Bus Escort and be courteous to the driver, Bus Escort and fellow pupils. Bad language, aggressive or unruly behaviour will not be tolerated. For safety reasons, no child may sit on the single front seat of the bus, or any seat which does not have a seat in front of it. For ease of boarding, when taking an unoccupied seat, the place next to the window should be filled first, and bags should not be placed on the seats. Children should sit quietly in their seats. All children must remain seated throughout the journey and until the bus comes to a complete stop at their final destination. Eating and drinking are forbidden on the bus. No sharps objects should be taken on the bus, nor should pens, pencils or musical instruments be used, in case the bus stops suddenly. Windows should not be opened. Seat belts must be worn at all times and not undone until the bus has come to a complete stop at their destination. Bad Behaviour The Assistant Principal (Operations) will be informed if a child refuses to follow these rules or the Bus Escorts instructions and the child s parents will be contacted. In the event of continued bad

behaviour, two warnings will be given. After this, children who continue to misbehave will not be permitted to use the bus service. Complaints or requests for clarification of the behaviour of the Bus Escort, driver or other bus users should be directed to the Assistant Principal (Operations) for investigation and follow up. Travelling by car Arrivals Children arriving at school by car must alight in the drive-through drop-off bay situated at the rear of the school building on Wah Lok Path. Children will be met by a member of staff and directed into school. To facilitate smooth traffic flow, please drive to the end of the bay before stopping, and follow any directions given to you by Kellett School staff. At no time should the driver leave their vehicle, as this is a drive-through area. Children must not be dropped off before 8.00am - there will be no member of staff to take charge of them. Departures To facilitate the collection of children by car in the afternoon, parents may make use of the car park immediately adjacent to the School. There is a small charge for using the car park. Please collect your child from the car park underneath the school. Parking PARKING IS NOT PERMITTED IN WAH LOK PATH AT ANY TIME. Please note that parking in Wah Lok Path is dangerous and may result in the police being called. This has occurred on many previous occasions and parking tickets have been issued. Our relationship with the local Wah Fu community is very important to us and it is essential that the comings and goings of Kellett school children do not interrupt the free flow of traffic in Wah Lok Path. The procedures outlined above allow for the safe arrival and departure of children with minimum impact on local traffic. Please be considerate and follow our parking code. It has been put in place with the safety of your children in mind. There is no parking at Kellett School. In addition to the car park adjacent to the school, there is public parking available in Wah Fu Estate. If you plan to drop off or pick up your child(ren), allow extra time as it can become quite congested at the start and end of the school day.

Please Do Not; Taxis Park in the drive-through area at any time Block the entrance or exit to the car park Taxis are readily available after school. To assist those taking a taxi to school, a card with Kellett School s address, written in Chinese may be obtained from Reception. Public Transport P6 Children are encouraged to use Public transport when returning home from school. At this stage, they are older, more responsible and increasingly independent. However please note that P6 should not take siblings with them.
