DEAR 2013-2014 CANDIDATE, THE SELECTION FOR THE 2013-2014 EES CHEERLEADING SQUAD WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT AND IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO GET READY!!! THE CHEER TRYOUT CLINICS WILL BE HELD AUGUST 1, 2013 AND AUGUST 5, 2013, FROM 10AM-4PM. YOU WILL LEARN A GROUP CHEER, AN INDIVIDUAL CHEER, AND A DANCE DURING THE CLINIC. IN PREPARATION FOR THE UPCOMING CHEER CLINICS, PLEASE BE FAMILIAR WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION. THE OFFICIAL DATE FOR TRYOUT IS AUGUST 6, 2013, FROM 11AM-4PM. YOU MUST RETURN THE COMPLETED APPLICATION BY WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2013 BY 12:00PM ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING TO MS. LIDE OR HAND IT IN THE MAIN OFFICE, IN ORDER TO TAKE PART IN THE CHEER TRYOUTS THAT WILL BE HELD ON AUGUST 1, 2013. INFORMATION SHEET/ ESSAY STATEMENT OF PERMISSION FORM PICTURE TRYOUTS 1. In order to participate in tryouts, students MUST have a new physical that will cover them through 2013-2014 Cheerleading Season. Completed physical forms, a copy of report card, and emergency medical forms should be brought to the first day of tryout clinics. 2. Independent judges along with the coach will choose squad members. These judges will have at least one of the following qualifications: from a known cheerleading organization, coached middle school, high school, or collegiate level athletes, or have a prior college cheerleading experience. 3. There MAY be up to 12-18 positions open for Varsity and 10 positions for JV. Not ALL positions have to be filled; it will be completely up to the amount of talent we have from each grade level. 4. Dress in athletic clothing appropriate for Cheerleading for August 1-August 2. The outfit must be appropriate for the School setting. Tumbling skills are preferred and required for VARSITY. 5. The required uniform for tryouts includes the following: navy shorts, a white T-shirt (No EE Smith shirts), and whatever shoes are comfortable for you. Don t forget to bring water bottles with you! 6. Seniors may only be open to Varsity. Sophomores and juniors are eligible to make JV or Varsity. Freshman can only make JV. 7. In order to earn a spot on Varsity: One must know both STOMP and SHAKE and Motion cheers, be able to DANCE (Pick up easily), STUNT, and TUMBLE (Must have at least a Round-off). GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!! Statement of Permission and Agreement If you make the cheerleading squad, realize that you are making a commitment to E.E. Smith High School, your coach, your teammates, and yourself for the complete season (full year). The decision to tryout should not be taken lightly. You will be expected to put cheerleading as one of your top priorities. Furthermore, as a representative of E.E. Smith, you must maintain proper behavior at all times. By making this commitment to the E.E. Smith High School Cheerleading program, you will receive many valuable and rewarding educational experiences that you will remember long after you graduate from high school. These activities will not only channel your enthusiasm and spirit in a constructive and beneficial manner, but will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment in being a part of a group that has earned the reputation as one of the finest in the state of North Carolina.
