VOL. 53 ISSUE 3 JANUARY 26, 2016 P21 AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED The AMA Supermoto Championship, an AMA National Championship, will feature six rounds of competition this year and make its return to television screens across the country. AMA Supermoto continues to grow in popularity and the AMA is encouraged by the growth not only nationally, but internationally, said Ken Saillant, AMA Track Racing Manager. The 2016 schedule offers our competitors an opportunity to race at many of the premier racing venues throughout the country and Canada. In addition to being sanctioned by the AMA, two rounds of the series are sanctioned by FIM North America, which includes the AMA and the Canadian Motorcycle Association. Riders will have the opportunity to earn AMA championship points at every round of the series. However, the Loudon, New Hampshire, and Quebec City, Canada rounds will also allow riders to earn points towards an FIM North America championship. The series will return to TV this season, after an eight-year absence. The Quebec City, Canada main event will be featured globally. Three additional rounds will be featured on MAVTV Motorsports Networks with six episodes and a total of 12 airings. Unit Productions, directed by motorcycle TV personality, race reporter and Executive Producer Greg White, will produce the coverage. We re really happy to bring Supermoto back to TV for the fans, the teams, the competitors, the sponsors and motorcycle enthusiasts alike, said Matt Stewart of USA Pro Supermoto. Being back on TV is one of the keys to keep the sport on track with its continued growth since our partnership with the AMA that reestablished the National Championship in 2014. We are also excited to be working with Executive Producer Greg White, who has a lot of experience with race coverage. IN THE WIND WALKER STARS AT ALÈS TRÊM EXTREME ENDURO The 2016 Extreme Enduro outdoor season kicked off in France over the weekend with the 2016 edition of the Alès Trêm Extreme Enduro. Red Bull KTM s Jonny Walker fired the first shot of the new year by taking Sunday s big win. Walker faced stiff competition from Sherco rider Wade Young while Husqvarna s Graham Jarvis rounded out the podium. Young, out of South Africa, took the victory in Saturday s extreme test, but Walker answered back by topping the evening prologue. The two squared off on Sunday in the main event, where Young made a statement by battling Walker for the lead. Wade Young was running a really fast pace for the first two laps, Walker described. He d be ahead for a while and then I d be ahead. It was really close and really high-paced. Things Graham Jarvis rounded out the podium, but didn t present a challenge to Walker during Sunday s main event. Red Bull KTM s Jonny Walker (shown) had to battle Wade Young for the lead, but Walker ultimately pulled away with the win. started getting tougher on the third lap and that s where I managed to open up a small lead. I kept pushing and stayed ahead to the finish. The last lap was really physical some parts of the track were so, so slippery! While Walker and Young PHOTOGRAPHY BY HUSQVARNA-MOTORCYCLES / FUTURE7MEDIA P30 battled out front, Jarvis got out to a more modest start, admitting that he struggled with fast pace and the slippery conditions in the opening laps. Jarvis found his groove in the third loop where the course was more technical. The first lap was fairly easy, quite fast, said Jarvis. I pushed hard but had a few small crashes because the ground was really slippery. Lap three was tough. I was fighting with [Alfredo] Gomez during the third lap and managed to get ahead of him in one of the rocky climbs. Red Bull KTM s Gomez had to settle for fourth behind Jarvis, while Husqvarna s Mario Roman rounded out the top-five. CN PHOTOGRAPHY BY KTM / FUTURE7MEDIA
