STMA Youth Hockey Association Board Meeting March 9, 2015 Board Members in Attendance: Called to Order - 7:10 called to order by Josh Opiola Approve February Meeting Minutes - approved Consent Agenda set the agenda for March Meeting: Approved Sam/Kristen Gambling Report - Dana Berg Dana made motion to approve March cash payments Karl 1st/Jenny 2nd. Approved Gambling Notes below. Open Forum Steve Gapinski - District 5 Director. Gave big shout out and thank you to STMA for hosting PeeWee Regional Tournament and how well it went. Steve is concerned with the reputation STMA hockey is getting and wanted to make us aware. Chris Hansen updated on 2nd sheet of Ice. Working closely with the National Sports Center and presented a feasibility study which said yes we should be able to do this. Passed the next phase on how this is funded so now we need to come up with a business plan. Needs our help to continue the support behind this. We have gotten great feedback from the Arena Board and support from both the St Michael Mayor and Albertville Mayor. Terry Evavold, VP of Hockey Operations for MN Hockey. Talked to us about creating a Director Of Hockey Operations position which is 1 person focused directly on the game of hockey and will be a leader in helping to grow ONLY the game of hockey with in The Association. There is a 2 day training seminar May 16-17 at the Marriott West and the cost is $275 which may be refunded back to association. The biggest challenge in filling this position is finding the right person who has a long term vision. This person would deal solely with hockey, this is a non board position and needs to be someone who can focus on kids development and start training our kids under the STMA flag instead of going elsewhere to find camps and training. This is a paid position ($12,000-$20,000). He recommends talking to other associations that already have this in place, i.e. Alexandria and Moorhead. They finished the season with a record of 23 wins, 11 losses and 6 ties and fell just one game short of qualifying for the State Tournament with a 2-4 loss to Minnetonka at the Playdowns. During the course of the season they played in four tournaments in which they brought home three first place (championship) trophies and a consolation championship trophy compiling an impressive tournament record of 10-1-1. Thank you to everyone who supported STMA Jr Gold this season and congratulations to the players and coaches on their success!! Looking to reallocate positions and clean up the redundant positions. There will still be 10 voting members. Get job descriptions to Jen by Friday. Josh and Jenny are the only returning positions. Jenny Bilicki recommended the mite scheduler and mite coordinator should be the same position. It was also discussed to get a VP of Communication which would be a 1 year term. Also discussed the VP of Player Development - create the position under the HOC and VP of Hockey - Build that role as Hockey Director?? The Coordinator positions would be applied and appointed by Board. The HOC Director Positions would support the Coordinators. Lots of discussions still needed so it was voted to move forward with the new org chart but to table until the next board meeting. Approved Kevin 1st/Sam 2nd.
