Days are getting longer. Horses are starting to shed. Are you getting antsy to start riding and get your mount fit and ready for the upcoming 2017 MBRA season? I know I am. 2017 will be a jam packed summer of barrel racing, starting with FMEC's show May 13 and 14th. Shelby, Tracey and gang always put on a great show. Get your time booked off early and bring yourself and your family to this early start to 2017. The members in Cape Breton are busy planning for their annual Tom Burt and Mark McGuire Memorial jackpot. This year the show is a little later, June 17-18. Hopefully the sun will we shining, as in addition to the racing there is rumor of an outdoor pizza party being planned, sounds like a fun time. Another change to the season this year is the inclusion of a full MBRA pointed jackpot in Sussex, NB coinciding with the Balloon fest /RAM Rodeo event in September. Sussex has a fabulous facility (for those that have not been there) and is a great weekend for a jackpot and family event. The Balloon fest is very similar to an "exhibition" that we are used to, midway, booths, food courts, etc. If you have not been this is the year to attend. We have a great season of racing ahead! Chris MacLean MBRA President

Maritime Barrel Racing Association General Meeting Minutes November 19, 2016 I. Call to order Chris Maclean called to order the general meeting of the MBRA at 12:10pm, November 19, 2016 at Holiday Inn, Truro NS. II. Roll call Beth O Leary 30 present at start of meeting, 8\10 more arrived as meeting progressed. III. Approval of minutes from last meeting Beth O Leary Read the minutes from the Nov 2015 General Meeting. The minutes were approved as read by Karen Hatcher & seconded by Roddie Benoit. Treasures Report Kathy Stevens. Read the Treasures report. Drug Fees collected $4765.00, Kathy explained the testing fees. Review of Main Account. Report approved by Elaine MacLean & seconded by Cherie Parker. IV. Old Business V. Chris MacLean reviewed the Red\Green lighting system the board was to look into in 2016 as an option for notifying riders when the show ring was available for the next competitor. The board looked into this, however has not yet found a workable solution. Board will continue to look into a system\solution for 2017. VI. VII. Discussion on whether the MBRA needs a Director present when drawing blood for a drug test as per the rule. Moving forward the board will ensure Andrew Lewis is made aware that a Director must be present during drug testing. Elaine MacLean made a motion: The MBRA will keep the Roll Over Rule. See #3.4 in rules. Seconded by Kathy Stevens Voted and Passed.

3D Roll-Over Rule: Each rider has the option, at time of entry only, to choose to roll over the time of their first barrel run of the day and pay the 3D entry fee. The time from that first barrel run will be rolled over to the 3D class and placed accordingly within the class, without having to actually run. VIII. Discussion on limiting entries at horse shows and the best way to select entries when stalls are limited. Several options were tossed around and reviewed. IX. New business Ed Grant made a motion: Select Top Horses by points (all need to be MBRA members). Plus 2 Wild Card entries which the Show Committee will select. Then 2 Wild Card entries which the MBRA Board of Directors select. Seconded by Beth O Leary Voted and Defeated. Chris Phillips made a motion: Select Top Horses by points (all need to be MBRA members). Plus 4 local entries. When Competitors join the MBRA they note their local Exhibition which would be considered the nearest to their home address on their membership forms. Seconded by Barb Taylor Voted and Defeated. No new selection process came from the discussion and therefore the rule # 3.7 will remain unchanged. If the last show of the season limits entries, the show will remain a pointed MBRA event. If a show other than the last show of the season limits entries, the method of entrant selection and the decision of whether to point the event or not will be at the discretion of the board of directors. a) Kathy Stevens made a motion: Membership due date change from May 15 th of each year to May 1 st of the each. Second by Ed Grant Voted and Passed.

With the exception of new members, membership applications received after May 1 st, 2017 will be levied a $10.00 late fee. As for Exhibitions; with the exception of new members, membership applications received after the closing date of the Exhibition s entry form will be levied a late charge that is double the yearly fee. b) Discussion on whether the MBRA needs to look into paying a Ring Crew for each Club run Jackpot. Motion made by Mary Lou Rankin Denton: Take the extra money the club now has and use it to pay a ring crew (those involved in setting the course for barrels \poles) at each club run Jackpot. Seconded by Cindy Wamboldt Voted and Defeated. (9 for\ 11 against) Motion made by Joan Grant: Create a sign-up sheet for members to volunteer as ring crew workers at Jackpots. One person (perhaps called the Grounds Keeper ) would be responsible looking after the sign-up sheet and getting people to sign it and the work at the chosen time. Second by Terry Cole. Voted and Passed. c) Discussion on whether a horse can be substituted on an entry due to injury. Terry Cole made a motion: A rider will be able to substitute a horse. Seconded by Elaine MacLean Voted and Passed Tommy Fraser made a motion: If the 1st horse entered is unable to compete at the show, then the 2 nd horse must have enough points in order to be used as a substitution. Rider on the original entry must be the rider on the 2 nd entry (substituted) horse. Seconded by Kathy Stevens

Voted and Passed d) Kaleigh Denton asked if the Pony Classes at the Cape Breton Exhibition could be MBRA pointed. These classes can be pointed as long as they are held on the same days as the Ram Classes and they are open to all ponies. e) Chris Maclean on behalf of Wendy Maclean brought up the amount of Drinking & Riding that took place at MBRA events in 2016. There appears to be an increased amount of alcohol begin consumed during the day by competitors at MBRA shows. Everyone needs to remember there are members of all ages present. Plus the MBRA events are getting a lot more of the public attending the club s events. The Directors will be monitoring this as per the Points of Conduct in the MBRA rules. f) There was a discussion concerning MBRA members whom have been leaving Exhibitions before the times as outlined on the entry forms. It is up to each member to review all rules on each entry form before entering any event to ensure they understand the specific rules, which relate to that event over and above the MBRA rules. Individual Exhibition rules are to be followed in the same manner as the MBRA rules. g) Cindy Wamboldt wanted to understand what the MBRA rule was for cleaning stalls and what the penalty was for those whom did not clean their stall when the competitor leaves the event. It was pointed out that there was no specific rule rather an event by event rule as to what condition the stall is to be left in upon departure of the horse. Any penalty applied would be decided by the event organizing committee. h) Gerald Dixon presents a proposal to the MBRA Directors outlining changes he would like to make for the Crapaud Exhibition. Gerald s proposal was outlined at the GM and it was felt that Gerald s proposal does not meet the criteria for an MBRA Jackpot rather is it more of an Open Show where he would host Open, Small Fry & Pony Classes. Limit of 40 entries. MBRA to run the show and provide a portion of the prize money. Entry Deadline of April 30 th. Discussion was held. Kathy Stevens wondered if the Directors could contact Gerald and suggest that the show be held on a different weekend when both barns would be available to accommodate our growing club and to look at changing his criteria to meet those needed to host an MBRA Jackpot. Chris will contact Gerald. i) Discussion was held on Announcers for each Exhibition. Kathy Stevens made a motion: In the letters sent to each Exhibition for 2017 stating that the MBRA will provide the Announcer and Cooler (Ram Rodeo Overall Championship award). The Exhibitions

will be responsible to pay $250.00 towards the announcer and $150.00 for the cost of the Ram Award. Second by Elaine MacLean Voted and Passed. j) Fundraising Tickets are becoming more difficult to sell each year. New ideas for fundraising was tossed around. The Fundraising committee will look into other fundraising options. Nominations began for 2016 Board of Directors: Beth O Leary, Terry Cole, Alex Singer, Tommy Fraser, Chris Phillips, Elaine MacLean, Kathy Stevens, Tim & Cherie Parker, Kaleigh Denton, Travis Yorke & Laura Morrison. Barb Taylor & Ed Grand declined the nomination. Vote was held. New Board for 2017 is: Terry Cole, Kaleigh Denton, Tommy Fraser, Chris & Elaine MacLean, Beth O'Leary. Tim & Cherie Parker, Kathy Stevens & Alex Singer. X. Adjournment Beth O Leary made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Elaine MacLean. Chris Maclean adjourned.
