President s Message Welcome to the 2018 shooting season for all Manitoba trapshooters and guests to this fine province. It looks like we will be treated to 23 days of open ATA tournaments as well as a Junior Tournament on June 24. For any juniors reading this, please note that you are invited, welcomed and encouraged to attend any tournaments or shoots in the province and at special rates (50% of the entry fee for any Junior or Sub-junior for the 16 yd. singles). Ask your mom or dad to take you. We also have the Canadians in Brandon from June 27 to July 1. Last year, we had a record 50 shooters at the ATA Provincials. For that reason, the ATA Provincial Shoot will once again be held at the end of Aug. in Winnipeg. The dates are Aug. 24, 25, 26. There will be good food and old friends. Added money and thousands of dollars worth of great prizes will be once again provided by ATA and MTA. Also, for anyone who wants to try International Trap, the Provincial International Shoot will be held in Winnipeg on Aug. 17, 18, 19. We are very blessed to be in a country where we can possess firearms and enjoy shooting sports. In most of the world, only the police, military or a special few can have firearms. For us in Canada, it is a privilege and not a right, and it is not enshrined in our constitution as it is in the States. This privilege is at the whim of our federal government. So, what I am saying is that, if you enjoy shooting sports and firearms, tell your friends and neighbors, take them out to a range, and let them see that this is really a normal, wholesome and fun activity. Become political and vote appropriately. Good Shooting, Harry Humby MTA President 7

Shooters Responsibilities 1. All shooters participating in any part of the program must have their current A.T.A. average card and membership. Event entry may not be allowed without them. 2. All scores must be posted on the card and averages figured and up-to date, before presenting it to the classification committee. The committee may reject any card not up-to-date. 3. Be certain, once entry is made, it is final. NO additions or withdrawal will be allowed after the event is started. 4. Watch the boards and be ready to compete when your squads called to the firing line. There will be no waiting for tardy shooters. 5. If you miss your squad, you may make up to 50 targets on the practice trap at the committee s discretion, otherwise report to the office and you will be re-squaded in the last squad if time permits. 6. No scores will be recorded if they are shot in any squad other than the one assigned by the office. 7. Check scores after each post shot and be certain that they are correct before firing at a target at the next post. 8. Only errors in addition may be corrected after a score sheet leaves the trap. 9. Conduct yourself in accordance with A.T.A. rules at all times. 10. Double check your entry cards, be certain of your class and yardage. It is the responsibility of Ladies, Veterans, Senior Veterans, Juniors and Sub-Juniors to see that they are properly entered on their cards and the bulletin sheets. Report any errors or omissions on the bulletin sheets to the cashier and score board attendants. 11. If you win or tie for a class or win yardage, report to the classification committee and have your card updated. Reclassifications and earned yardage will be posted on the score board, be certain to check, it is the shooter s responsibility to be in correct class and shoot the correct yardage. 12. WHO MAY PARTICIPATE - Only A.T.A. life or annual members may participate in an A.T.A. registered trap shooting event/and or tournament. Shooters must be members of the State/Provincial Association in their place of residence to compete in registered shoots in that State or Province. 9

How to Keep an Average Card When you join the A.T.A. you will receive an Average Card. Keeping this card neat and up-to-date at all times is your responsibility. 1. The card must be presented at the time of registration at your next shoot. 2. Blank cards are available at each of the major Clubs for new competitors who have not received their first card. 3. Up-to-date average card can be found and printed at www.shootata.com 10

Safety Etiquette The practice of tracking targets behind a shooting squad is unsafe, disconcerting to the shooters and is not permitted. All guns must have the action opened and contain no live or empty shells at any time, except while the shooter is on the firing line. A break open gun may be closed when it is in the gun rack but it shall not contain a live or empty shell. A gun other than a break open must have the action open when it is in the gun rack and it shall not contain a live or empty shell. A shooter may place a live shell in his gun only when on a post facing the traps. In singles or handicap a shooter may place only one shell at a time in his gun. In doubles a contestant may place two shells at a time in his gun. All live and empty shells must be removed from the gun before moving from one post to another. In changing from one post to another, the shooter will not walk in front of the other shooters. A shooter must not in any manner interfere with the preceding shooter by raising his/her gun to point or otherwise create an observable distraction. Shooters are not permitted to shoot while seated in or otherwise using a golf cart on the firing line. Single passenger conveyances are the appropriate means for participating should one require assistance due to permanent or temporary disability. All guns must be equipped, fitted and used so as not to eject empty shells in a manner that substantially disturbs or interferes with other contestants. If a flag, orange pylon or stop sign appears on the trap house, immediately unload your gun and wait until it is removed, indicating ready. Do not point your gun in the direction of any person even though they know the gun is not loaded. Each shooter must have his/her own gun while on the firing line. The practice of sharing a gun on the firing line is dangerous and will not be allowed. Protective shooting glasses and ear protection must be worn. All empty shells that hit the ground are the property of the Club. 11

Authorized club personnel will make all necessary adjustments to the trap machines. The Gun Club has the right to refuse shooting privileges to any individual possessing faulty firearms and/or ammunition. The Gun Club has the right to expel any individual who, in the opinion of shoot management, disrupts the harmony of a tournament. The Gun club assumes no responsibility for injuries or damages resulting from the use of firearms or ammunition. Respect in Sport Policy 1. The Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. is committed to creating a sport environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Coaches have a responsibility to create a sporting environment that is free of harassment and abuse. 2. The Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. requires that all coaches participating in trapshooting have completed the online Respect in Sport as required by Sport Manitoba. Scope and Application 1. The policy applies to all coaches registered with, or named, on an official sport roster, or under the jurisdiction of the Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. 2. Any coach not having completed the program or maintained certified status in the timeframe established by the Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. may be removed as a coach until such time that the course is completed. 3. The Board of Directors of Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. is responsible for setting out the communication and timing of course completion and recertification. Enforcement Non-compliance of this policy may result in further discipline as determined by the Board of Directors or in accordance with Manitoba Trapshooting Association Inc. Policy. 12

Board of Directors Meetings The M.T.A. Board of Directors meetings are held throughout the year at a central location in order so that all Directors can attend. The Directors carry out the business of the Association for the benefit of the members and trapshooting in Manitoba. The semi-annual meeting is open to any member in good standing and who is a member of a M.T.A. affiliated club. The meetings will take place at the Manitoba Provincial Championships. The Annual General Meeting is open to any member in good standing and who is a member of a M.T.A. affiliated club. The meeting location, date and time will be mailed/e-mailed to all members in good standing. Please ensure that the Club Secretary has your correct address and e-mail address. 14

Travel Funding Update There have been a number of inquiries over the past couple of years as to funding for travel to trap shoots outside of Manitoba. The funding for all programs comes from Sport Manitoba. In order to get funding the M.T.A. board must submit a plan for how the funding will be spent a year in advance. All spending must fit into Sport Manitoba s criteria to be approved. Our programs provide for two levels of assistance: The first is from the M.T.A. and assists the Manitoba Provincial Champion of Singles, Handicap, and Doubles to train and attend Canadian and World Championship events. If the champion cannot attend then consideration will be given to runner-ups, class winners and possibly the 1st All Star Team. The amount available will depend on funds available and number of athletes requesting assistance. The funding is on the basis of the decision of the Board of Directors of the M.T.A. All athletes must complete and sign the athlete assistance form and submit it to the Secretary by September 1st of the current year. The second level of funding is from Sport Manitoba. This funding is for Provincial Champions only, who attend either the Canadian or World Championships. Sport Manitoba requires that the athletes place in the top 10% or top 10 at the national or international championships. Some latitude is given in the case of Juniors and Sub-Juniors to attend other championships. Champions are asked to report scores & placing to the treasurer of the M.T.A. and will be sent a Sport Manitoba Form for completion. This form must be filled in and returned to the treasurer of the M.T.A. (to be signed) then forwarded to Sport Manitoba for consideration. A shooter must be a member in good standing of the M.T.A. and be affiliated with a Club prior to a shooting event in which he/she could qualify for funding. 15

A.T.A. Categories All Ladies, Sub-Juniors, Junior, Veterans and Senior-Vets must declare their special category at the time of classification in any registered tournament if they wish to compete as a category shooter. Without such declaration, the contestant will not be allowed to compete for the applicable category trophy. No contestant will be allowed to declare or change a special declaration after firing his/her first shot. The only exception to the rule will be to correct an A.T.A. classification error. The following rules apply to shooters who declared a special category. At all tournaments where All American points will be awarded in any event, shooters must declare only one (1) category (i.e. Lady I, Lady II, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior Gold, Sub Veteran, Veteran, or Senior Veteran). Note: Chair Shooters are exempt from this rule. 1. A female shooter, who has not reached her 55th Birthday, may declare Lady 1. 2. A female shooter, who has reached her 55th birthday, may declare Lady II. 3. A shooter who has not reached his/her 15th birthday may declare Sub- Junior. 4. A shooter who is 15 but has not reached his/her 18th birthday may declare as a Junior. 5. A shooter who is 18 but has not reached his/her 23rd birthday may declare as a Junior Gold. 6. A shooter who is 70 years of age and older may declare as a Senior Veteran. This rule does not supersede paragraph 7. 9. Age based categories are established on the birthday of the shooter. For purposes of determining age category for HOA and HAA awards, the category declared by the participant on the first day he/she shoots shall be used. 10. Shooters who become eligible for new age based categories during the target year may elect to continue to compete in the previous category for the remain- der of that target year. (For example a shooter reaching age 70 may elect to continue to shoot as a Veteran for the remainder of the current target year.) However, once a shooter has elected to move to the new category that decision is irrevocable and he/she may not again declare eligibility for the previous category. Junior shooters reaching the age of 18 may continue to declare Junior category for the remainder of the current target year. When there is no Sub-Junior trophy, Sub-Juniors will be included in the Junior Category. Senior veterans will be included in the Veteran category when there is no Senior Veteran trophy. Where there is no Junior Gold or Sub Veteran trophy, these shooters will be included in the Open Class. Where there is no Lady II trophy, these shooters will be included in the Lady I category. 18

The following rules apply to shooters who have declared a special category. At all tournaments where All-American points will be awarded in any event, shooters may declare only one (1) category.
