STONY BROOK The Stags and the Seawolves are meeting for the first time since the 2007 season. Fairfield is 3-2 all-time against Stony Brook but have dropped the last two meetings. In their last outing on September 7, 2007 at the Seton Hall Invitational, Stony Brook pulled out a 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-24) win. In that match, Kelly Oliver had 10 kills while Lindsey Lee had 13 digs and five kills. Fairfield s last victory in the series came on October 5, 2004 at Alumni Hall in the form of a 3-1 (30-25, 30-28, 19-30, 30-20) decision. FAIRFIELD VS. BUCKNELL The Stags and the Bison are meeting for just the third time in program history. The series stands even at 1-1. The two teams last met on August 25, 2006 at the Fairfield Invitational where the Stags downed Bucknell, 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-18). In that match, Lindsey Lee had a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs while Karlie Urbaniak had 12 kills. Kiana Kauwe chipped in with a match-high 16 digs. FAIRFIELD VS. COLUMBIA Fairfield is 4-0 all-time against Columbia. The two teams last met on September 24, 2005 during the Fairfield Invitational at Alumni Hall. The Stags posted a 3-0 win (31-29, 30-20, 30-22) behind double-doubles by Lindsey Lee (17 kills, 13 digs) and Ashley Hanohano (24 assists, 11 digs). LAST TIME OUT Fairfield picked up its first win of the season by downing Coastal Carolina 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-13) on August 30 to wrap up action at the UNC Wilmington Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Classic. Junior Hadley Orr had a double-double with a career-high 16 kills and 14 digs. Setter Carsen Mata posted a double-double with 43 assists and 15 digs. Senior Caitlin Stapleton notched double digits for the second straight match, finishing with 15 kills. Stapleton also had four total blocks and six digs. Sophomore Megan O Sullivan registered 11 kills, which tied a career-high, and six total blocks. Senior Camille Coffey had a career-high 26 digs. COUNT ON CAITLIN Senior Caitlin Stapleton is steadily moving up Fairfield s career charts for kills and blocks. Against Coastal Carolina on August 30, she notched her 900th career kill. She has a total of 911 kills and is on pace to become the 12th Stag in program history to reach the 1,000 kill mark. With 236 total blocks, senior Caitlin Stapleton is five away from entering the top-10 at Fairfield. Stapleton has 212 block assists for her career, good for ninth all-time. Stapleton recorded her 200th career total block and checked into the Stags career block assists chart after recording five total blocks at Siena on October 21, 2013. Stapleton was named to the UNC Wilmington Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 2.25 kills, including a pair of double-digit efforts, with nine total blocks in four matches.

She s also ranked fifth all-time in digs per game (3.08/g). Mata became the 13th Stag in program history record 1,000 career digs on November 16, 2013 at Niagara. After taking over as libero on October 12, she collected 263 digs in 15 matches to close out 2013. STILL GOING Two Stags - Carsen Mata and Camille Coffey - have not missed a set since 2012. Mata has appeared in 234 consecutive sets dating back to 2012. Coffey has appeared in 162 consecutive frames with both streaks dating back to 2012. HIT THE ROAD Fairfield plays its first 10 matches on the road to start the 2014 season. The Stags will open action at home on September 20 when they host Iona for their MAAC opener. HE S BACK Head Coach Todd Kress begins his second stint at the helm of the Stags in 2014. Kress was at the helm of the Stags from 1995-98, going 94-45 overall, including a program record 35-2 record in his final season. The three-time MAAC Coach of the Year guided Fairfield to its first three MAAC Regular Season Championships, its first two MAAC Tournament Championships, and its first two NCAA Tournament appearances. Most recently, Kress spent five seasons at the University at Buffalo where he guided the team to three winning seasons and two Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament appearances. He also coached the 2013 MAC Defensive Player of the Year in current Fairfield Assistant Coach Kelly Svoboda. Prior to Buffalo, Kress spent seven seasons at Florida State University where he helped the Seminoles to an NCAA appearance. He also spent four seasons at Northern Illinois University, leading the team to the MAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001 THEY RE BACK! Fairfield welcomes back 10 letterwinners from its 2013 MAAC Championship season, including four starters and the libero. The Stags returners are comprised of one graduate student, four seniors, two juniors, and three sophomores. FRESH FACES The Stags have three freshmen for the 2014 season in setters Sydney Buckley and Ellie Hartman and libero Megan Theiller. Buckley, a native of Lees Summit, Mo., helped Bishop Miege High School to a Kansas State Championship in 2013. Hartman, a native of Atlanta, Ga., was a two-time All-State selection at Westminster High School. Theiller, a native of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., was an All-State selection at John-Jay East Fishkill as a senior. STAGS IN SEASON OPENERS Fairfield is 15-15 in season openers since 1985 and has captured five of its last 11.

MAAC PRESEASON POLL Fairfield was picked second in the 2014 MAAC Preseason Poll, ending a two-year run at the top of the poll. The Stags received 87 points in the poll while Marist College, last season s runner-up, earned 89 points. Fairfield and Marist each went 14-4 in league play to share the 2013 MAAC Regular Season Championship and met in the 2013 MAAC Championship Final. Iona was third with 74 points followed by Siena with 70 and Manhattan with 68 points. Rounding out the group were Canisius (57), Rider (39), Quinnipiac (31), Niagara (25), and Saint Peter s (10). PRESEASON ALL-MAAC Senior Marilyn Peizer earned a spot on the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Peizer was an All- MAAC First Team selection in 2013. The outside hitter played in all 32 matches, appearing in 117 of a possible 119 sets. She finished the season with 361 kills (3.09/s), 157 digs, and 55 total blocks. Peizer had 22 matches with double-digit kills, including 10 kills in the NCAA Tournament against Nebraska to conclude the season. FAIRFIELD 500 The Stags recorded their 500th program win on October 20 at Siena. Since becoming a varsity program in 1985, the volleyball team has an overall record of 510-414. The volleyball team is the second-winningest women s program at Fairfield behind basketball. Fairfield traveled to the Lincoln, Neb. for its first round match against the host Nebraska Cornhuskers at the historic Bob Devaney Center. The Stags, despite an early first set lead, fell to the Huskers, 3-0 (15-25, 9-25, 17-25). Last season, Fairfield made their first NCAA appearance since 2001 when it secured the league s automatic bid and headed to Los Angeles to face #6 USC. The Women of Troy posted a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-10) win over the Stags. Fairfield had a string of five NCAA Tournament appearances between 1997-2001. STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM, NOW THEY RE HERE After beginning conference play with a 1-3 mark, the Stags turned it around by winning 13 of its next 14 MAAC matches to earn a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship and the top-seed in the MAAC Tournament. Fairfield won 16 of its final 18 matches of the season. FAIRFIELD & THE MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP The Stags won their second consecutive MAAC Championship crown by downing second-seeded Marist College 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) on November 24 in Loudonville, N.Y. In the semifinals, Fairfield came from behind to defeat fourth-seeded Manhattan College 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22). The Stags dominated their opponents during the tournament, averaging 15.86 kills on.312 hitting and 18.00 digs per set while opponents averaged 12.14 kills on.169 hitting and 16.57 digs. Fairfield also out-blocked opponents 18-8. Maddie FitzPatrick contributed 14 total blocks. Fairfield has appeared in 15 MAAC Championship finals, winning seven of those. Out of the eight losses in the finals, five-straight occurred between 2004-08. The Stags made their 18th consecutive MAAC Championship appearance this season. Out of the 24 MAAC Championships that have been held since 1990, Fairfield has appeared in 20 of them. Fairfield has been the top-seed in the MAAC Championship on 12 occasions and is 17-6 in tournament play as the #1 seed. Senior setter Rachel Romansky was named the MAAC Championship Most Valuable Player after averaging 12.71 assists with four aces, six kills, and eight digs. It was Romansky fourth-straight inclusion on the MAAC Championship All-Tournament Team. Senior Hayley Moyer and junior Caitlin Stapleton also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team. Stapleton averaged 4.00 kills and 1.14 blocks per set while hitting.408 (28-8- 49) to lead the Stags attack. Moyer averaged 3.43 kills on.500 hitting (24-1-46) with four total blocks and five digs. FAIRFIELD & THE MAAC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP The Stags clinched a share of their 13th MAAC Regular Season Championship and their second-consecutive title, by going 14-4 in conference play this season. Fairfield won five-consecutive MAAC Regular Season titles from 1996-2000 and then won six straight between 2004-09. MAAC POSTSEASON AWARDS Senior Rachel Romansky was named the MAAC Setter of the Year for the third consecutive year. Romansky is Fairfield s first three-time MAAC Setter of the Year and is the first setter in league history to receive three consecutive Setter of the Year honors since the award s inception in 2004. Romansky, who was tabbed the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year in August, earned All-MAAC First Team honors for the second-straight year. Junior Marilyn Peizer earned her first-ever selection to the All-MAAC First Team while senior Hayley Moyer was named to the All-MAAC Second Team for the first time. Six Stags were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team including Moyer, Peizer, Carsen Mata, Camille Coffey, Lindsay Weaver, and Maddie FitzPatrick.

BLOCK PARTY Fairfield recorded 10 or more blocks nine times. The Stag tallied a season-high 13.0 blocks against Marist on October 9. There were 364 block assists for the Stags, the sixth-highest single season total in program history, and the most since the 2007 season (376). SECOND SET INDICATOR Fairfield was 23-9 in the second set and are 18-5 overall when they w0n the second stanza. HOLDING THEM DOWN The Stags held opponents to an attack percentage of.215 or lower 20 times in 2013. Niagara recorded a season-low attack percentage of.000 on November 16. Three others hit under.100: Quinnipiac (.014), Manhattan (.048) and Marist (.084). FIRST THINGS FIRST The Stags dropped the first set against Rider on October 6 but came back to win in five sets. It was the first time all season in which Fairfield dropped the first set and won the match. They were 0-10 in that situation prior to the Rider match. Since the win over Rider, the Stags have had five more occasions where they have lost the first set only to win the match. It happened against Marist on October 9, against Niagara on October 13, at Siena on October 20, at Canisius on November 17, and in the MAAC Championship Semifinal against Manhattan on November 23.
