Competition Location and Hotel Information Both Peterborough Competitions (Shine and Bedazzled) will be taking place at Showplace Performance Centre on George Street. Should you choose to book a hotel for any out of town competitions please do so early to avoid disappointment. The hotels below (arranged by the competitions) tend to book up quickly. Be sure to find out each hotels change and cancellation policy before booking unnecessary nights! Please keep in mind there are MANY other hotels in the area the ones we list are the ones suggested by the competition and often offer group rates while quantities last. You do NOT have to stay at any particular hotel. Let s Get Loud: Scarborough host hotel is the Travelodge, 20 Milner Business Court, 416-299-9500. Rate is $109 with hot breakfast, free wifi, parking included. Just mention you are coming in with the competition Let's Get Loud when making reservation.

Shine: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre Gatineau-Ottawa. 35 Rue Laurier Gatineau. Rate is $155 night, must book online at: https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/events/start.action?id=1708299309&key=5622aad Competition Team Etiquette o Please be sure to arrive to every competition 90 MINUTES prior to your scheduled performance time. This is very important (even if the competition is held in Peterborough), as it allows the teachers to make sure everyone looks the same, is properly stretched/warmed up, and we have time to go over the routine as a group before hitting the stage. We are a team and it is not fair to your teammates and teachers to be searching for you at the last minute. ** IMPORTANT - Teachers reserve the right to not allow a student to perform if they are not at the competition within a reasonable amount of time, or have forgotten pieces of their costume. This is completely left up to the teacher of that group and their discretion. Please avoid disappointment and ARRIVE EARLY! *** o Please cheer for everyone! You are representing Premiere Studio of Dance so please cheer for not only our studio, but every performer especially at awards ceremonies! This demonstrates a positive attitude and makes the entire weekend more fun! Our studio has won many studio spirit awards, not only for cheering on everyone who takes the stage, but also for being courteous and polite to all backstage personal. o Remember that we are a team (parents included). Older dancers and adults need to lead by example. Some parents may compare their child s progress or marks to another in a group. A negative focus or comparison creates and uncomfortable atmosphere for all. In addition, speaking negatively about your child s teachers, fellow dancers or other parents in front of your child, or other parents and students, could result in problems far beyond your original concerns and will not be tolerated. Should you have an issue that requires immediate attention speak to one of our teachers, or feel free to email Robyn at info@premieredance.ca. The studio has a zero tolerance policy for bullying, and disrespect to teachers, parents or anyone at a competition. Students or parents who are not able to follow by the studio rules will be removed from the competitive team, and potentially the studio, immediately. o Parents are not permitted backstage at any competition or performance unless they are working with props or requested to be volunteers. This rule will be strictly enforced. o NO video cameras, digital photography on camera s or cell phones is allowed inside any of our competitive venues. This is to protect the dancers, the choreography and costumes of each studio and its teachers. Please respect this rule!! Competitions reserve the right to disqualify an entire STUDIO if people are caught taking pictures or video inside the theatre. Please take as many pictures as you d like in the rehearsal spaces. High quality, professional videos and photos can be purchased at the competitions put the phone away and completely enjoy the moments on stage!! o Finally, dance is like figure skating in that a lot of performance is interpretative. Everyone likes different things. It is quite common for a group of dancers to get different marks from competition to competition. Please do not get discouraged (or let your kids get down ). What is important to us teachers is that everyone has tried his or her best, and ultimately each time a number is performed it gets a little better! Although we do strive for overall awards and high marks, what needs to be kept in perspective is that dance is an art, and is done for fun! At no point should we forget that the FUN is why our kids love to dance!

Hair, Jewellery and Makeup Unless otherwise indicated a dancer s hair is to be slicked back with no bangs and parted in the middle of the dancers head. Some groups may require a barrette, headband, hairpiece or other accessories. Additional information with regards to hair, jewelry, makeup, shoes & tights for each specific group is detailed below. For SHOWCASE all groups will wear middle part low bun. All Dancer s Make-up/Hair Bag Should Include the Following: - comb/brush, strong hair elastics use two at base of ponytail to start the bun, bobby pins/hair pins, hairnet, (same colour as hair), to help secure bun, gel (to use while styling) and hairspray (to finalize style). For hairstyles that require straight hair, a high quality ceramic flat iron is suggested. - Water and lots of healthy easy to digest snacks - Make-up remover, cotton balls, Q-tips, deodorant, mirror, Band-Aids, sewing kit, tide to go, tissues, safety pins, etc. Make up: False Eyelashes all required for all dancers over age of 6. Lashes with no sparkles are preferred. - Mascara: Any long wearing black to put on lower lashes and fill in gaps from false lashes - Red Long lasting lipstick: we love Lipsense blu/red, or any true RED in a brand of your choice - Lip Liner: Helps prevent colour from bleeding, a true red in brand of choice. - Powder: Colour to suit skin tone, important to reduce shine from sweat and lights. - Blush: natural looking rosy blush, enhance natural look only, (no bright pink or red). - Eye Shadow: Neutral eye shadow (beige & browns) to suit skin tone, darker colour in crease. - Black Eyeliner: long wearing, pencil or liquid to fill in gaps from false lashes, add small cat eye. Also don t forget your accessories (barrette, earrings, hairpiece, hat, etc.), as required for your routine(s). A dancer may not be allowed to perform if they have forgotten a piece of their costume, and teachers will not always have extras! Encourage your kids to carefully pack their own bags, but please double CHECK!! Take care to bring each piece of your costume! Grooming Tips: o It is easiest to do a bun when hair is DAMP. Please make sure your bun is tightly secured as anything falling out or coming undone on stage will result in deducted marks! It is also a distraction to the dancer! o Rhinestone Earrings are required for everyone (unless otherwise noted), and are available for purchase from The Dancer s Closet. Cost is approximately $15 for earrings (clip-on and pierced). Some routines also require barrettes and headbands that can also be purchased. o No underwear is to be worn with costumes... ONLY tights. Older students not wearing tights may want to wear nude boy shorts or thong no panty lines please! Every dancer should have an extra pair of required tights in the event that they run, get dirty, etc. It is very important that everyone have tights meant for dance. Tights from Sears or Wal-Mart do not look the same! Dancers without the correct tights will not be permitted to perform, as it will cause deducted marks. o Cover-ups: Every competitive student is required to have a PSD cover-up (Sweatshirt, T- shirt, jacket etc.). Anyone going on stage to accept an award, or watch in the audience must have a PSD cover-up on. PSD wear can be purchased via the attached order form. No late orders will be accepted, so please get your order in on time! Teachers reserve the right to remove a student from the stage during awards if they do not have a cover up on. Finally, please put dancers name in all warm-up jackets, shoes, etc., as items are often mixed up in change rooms. Bring extra tights and shoes if possible you never know when you or someone in your group may need them!

Tights and Shoes For tights and shoes it is extremely important that we are all wearing the same colour! Although tights may look the same in the package, on stage they are not. We will lose marks for students wearing the wrong colour! Do not be persuaded to buy another colour/brand!!! The Dancer s Closet carries all our required tights for an easy shopping experience.
