For the first time in the history of the program the team captured 1st place in all 4 relays with 9 different athletes. 3200 Relay members: Josie Koenigsknecht, Taryn Schafer, Grace Boak and Morgan George 800 Relay members: Alyssa Vandegriff, McKenzie Koenigsknecht, Sidney Horak and Kaitlyn Langin 400 Relay members: McKenzie Koenigsknecht, Kaitlyn Langin, Ciera Weber and Sidney Horak 1600 Relay members: McKenzie Koenigsknecht, Grace Boak, Kaitlyn Langin and Morgan George Ciera Weber was State Champion in Pole Vault. Alyssa Vandegriff was State Champion in High Jump and 100 hurdles. Fowler has the best hurdlers in the state having Alyssa, Ciera, Sidney and Sadie Weber all place and become All-State in Hurdles. Fowler had many fans there to cheer the team on that day and the support from the community is appreciated. The team bus was led into town by a Dallas Township fire truck leading the way. Coach Jill Feldpausch was also selected as the Michigan Girls Track Coach of the Year by the Track Coaches Association.

You can find them in five different locations, each stocked with a variety of books. A Little Free Library works as a sort of book exchange. Each library box is stocked with children s books. From the box, books can be borrowed for reading, and later returned. Books can also be donated just by leaving it in the box. Registration is now open for 2018-2019 Latchkey program. The Latchkey program is open to students K-5th grades. Seats are limited and are on a first come first basis. Please go to http://fowlerschools.net/waldronschools/latchkey to sign up. Thank you for your generous donation from the Fowler PTA and the Fowler Public Schools Education Foundation. They partnered together to award Mrs. Ritter's classroom the ability to purchase 8 Chromebooks! These Chromebooks have been a great addition to allowing students to work on extension activities, collaborate on projects and participate in Mystery Skypes! The students are thrilled to be able to have technology at their fingertips! Thank you!! On May 24 th, 2018, the GSRP Preschoolers participated in a graduation ceremony. More than seventy family members and friends attended. Guests and graduates enjoyed snacks and many phot opportunities. Parents were able to meet their child s classmates, as well as their families. The Middle School Band traveled to Fowlerville back in February to perform at the the MMEA Festival. Congratulations to Makenna on receiving the Leadership Award and Lauren for being selected for the Director s Award in Band. High School Band Camp is scheduled for the first "weekend" in August. The band will leave Friday, August 3 and return Monday, August 6. 3
In May, all of the kindergartners took a field trip to Impression 5 Science Center, thanks to a grant that Mrs. Pung was awarded through Delta Dental. Students and chaperones were admitted for free to enjoy the science center all morning, and participate in a "Tooth Comparison Workshop" after lunch. There were so many great hands-on opportunities and students enjoyed a day of learning with their friends and parents! We are excited to congratulate Mrs. Kellie Thelen on her retirement after serving as the Special Education Teacher at Waldron School for the past 24 years! She has touched the lives of each of students and their families over that time as she acted as an advocate, mentor, problem solver, and motivator in addition to teacher. The sincere concern she showed for her students development academically, emotionally, physically, and behaviorally was obvious and deeply appreciated. She challenged her students to recognize their strengths and build on them as a path to their success in the classroom and in life. While she will be dearly missed by those in our Fowler school family, we wish Mrs. Thelen much happiness in her retirement with well-deserved time spent with her family and those dear to her. The middle school students, 5 th 7 th grades, got to enjoy a field day at the YMCA on May 18 th. 4
Third graders at Waldron had a Countdown to Summer Vacation. During the last 2 weeks of school, students popped balloons that contained special end-of-the-year activities. Some of these activities were a mystery movie, a space scavenger hunt, making s mores in our studentcreated solar ovens, and a plastic wrap candy race. First graders set off on a camping adventure filled with camp stories, songs, games, crafts, a walking trip, and time spent outdoors. Tents were put up in the classroom and students enjoyed making s mores. It was a great way to celebrate the end of a fabulous year together! The second graders in Mrs. Epkey s class put their speaking and writing skills to good use. The students wrote their own how-to speeches and presented them to their second grade friends. The class also used their great manners while listening and watching their peers demonstrate. Many topics were explored like making slime, stirring up a batch of puppy chow, creating a volcano, completing a science experiment, and much more. The students were not only excited to present, but they loved watching the speeches and asking questions along the way. Way to go second graders!! Every spring the 4 th grade class get to paint all over Mr. Wisner s car. Students seem to enjoy being creative and testing out their own design styles. Can you spot the Eagle? Great job kids. Maybe Ford or GM would like to take some design tips from you for their 2020 designs. More books were purchased for the Waldron and High School Libraries thanks to scholastic Dollars earned through having book fairs this year. In preparation for their upcoming unit in Latin America, Mrs. Ritter s 6 th Grade class had a virtual speaker from Brazil. Sixth graders had the opportunity of a virtual guest speaker, Douglas Trent, an American ecologist & photographer currently living in Brazil, speak to the class about birds, Jaguars and the Amazon rainforest! He kicked off our last Social Studies Unit on Latin America. He showed them various species of wildlife, spoke about Amazon deforestation, conservation and answered all questions asked by the students. Mrs. Ritter s 7th hour 8th Grade class has been delving deeper into their future career path. This has included a mock budget scenario where students had a job, paid rent, bought groceries, and paid unexpected bills. They also reasearched what their ideal career would be, what their salary would be, and where they could find employment. Throughout the class they had to look into their dream school, what will they need to graduate not only from high school but from post-secondary education. To further their career experience a plethora of community members and parents from Skilled trades, Social Worker, Surgeon and law enforcement came in to share about their job, schooling and to answer questions to expose them to career options they may not have considered! 7

T he Band is especially busy at the end of the school year with concerts, trips, and special events. Here are some high lights: Above-warming up before entering the park. Left-getting ready to go out on the field. Performing on the field at Lugnuts stadium. As a final task, Band Students spent a day at Michigan s Adventure Park. After a short performance at the front of the park, students broke off in small groups and were able to enjoy all the rides and festivities the park had to offer. It was a great way to end the year! 9
That was the theme of this years Prom at Fowler High School. All you needed to visit New York on New Year s Eve was a Golden ticket. Dane Armbrustmacher and Emily VanElls were crowned Prom King and Queen. Congratulations! After arriving in Grand Haven at the same time as a line of thunderstorms on May 14 th that caused their trip canceled, students were finally able to drop their lines on a repeat visit on May 29th. The waters of Lake Michigan were calm and a beautiful sunrise was punctuated by the sound of a reel's screaming drag! Conservation class members Noah Kohagen, Madison Halfman, Victor Feldpausch, Dane Armbrustmacher, Logan Simmon, and Hunter Armbrustmacher, along with Chad Klein, Jacob Taylor, Jared Snyder, Tyler Piggott all had the opportunity to reel in a fish. Noah, Victor and Chad all caught beautiful king salmon over 16 pounds! A couple nice lake trout and a Coho salmon also made it to the cleaning table. Each student took home a bag of fresh fish fillets to enjoy for their effort. Taylor Rademacher, Jonathan Hong, Adam Pohl, and Mr. Wilson traveled to Dallas, Texas for the 2018 BPA National Leadership Conference May 9-13. Places of interest that they group visited included the 6 th Floor Museum, the Perot Science museum, and the George W. Bush Library. Bre Thompson It was one of the scariest times of my life said my Dad when I asked what he was thinking during the whole event. Your mother was pregnant with you and I was having trouble feeling positive about the world I was bringing my child into. Caeden Bailey One thing my Dad took specific note of was how the nation reacted for the first few days after the attacks. He noticed that everyone, at least on his street, had hung American flags up somewhere. He claims that there were very few prior to the attacks. Kimbria Lance My Dad remembers the gas lines that formed soon after the attacks. Although he did not get into any lines he remembered the chaos that ensued. The lines wrapped around the block and the gas prices soared. Nobody knew what would happen next. Everyone then prepared for the worst possible scenarios and began stocking up on food and gas. My family did decide to stockpile food. -Brycen Halfmann My Grandfather supports additional security at airports. He believes that they were too lax before. He recalls before the attacks that he once went from an airport in Alaska to Chicago with a hunting rifle out of its case. He was able to walk right to the plane without anyone stopping him. Logan Kramer A little something extra is that my Dad actually bought a newspaper of the day it happened to show me and for me to later show my kids of what happened that day. Whether the paper will actually last that long lyin on top of a filing cabinet is a different story. Ben Seltin Sophomores in Mr. Wilson s U.S. History class were asked to interview family members about their memories of 9-11, and then wrote up their responses in a paper for class. Here are a few samplings of those papers: My Mom, 30 years old at the ttime, had two daughters and a 15 day-old son. As you probably guessed, that 15 day-old son was me. Tony Piggott My Mom remembers keeping the news on at all times and having it off made her feel anxious. She also remembers being afraid to get on her plane three months later to pick up my sister from California. She said the second she got (My Grandfather) told me some of the questions I was asking him were very difficult to answere because he had mixed feelings about them. During the interview, he asked me, Why are people so cruel? We hurt each other and kill innocent people and we don t need to. They didn t have to do that and they did. It s very sad. Taylor Bierstetel Nine-Eleven happened on September 11, 2001. Do you remember what you were doing at that time and what you thought? 11
Thirteen Senior Athletes from Fowler High School were honored at the annual Central Michigan Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Awards celebration in May. The Lansing State Journal Sports Awards recognizes and honors the top athletic accomplishments in Greater Lansing High School Sports. This year Fowler had 4 Athletes honored in a sport. Mason Pline was nominated for Athlete of the Year in Basketball. Kennedy Koenigsknecht was nominated for Athlete of the Year in Softball. Alyssa Vandegriff was nominated for Athlete of the Year in Track. And, Dane Armbrustmacher was nominated for Athlete of the Year in Baseball. Academic Success, Scholarships Crown Class 2018!! By Neil Hufnagel, Superintendent/High School Principal Our annual FHS Commencements were held on Sunday, May 20 in Waldron School s Piggott Gym. Graduation is the culminating event of the educational process not only for our students, but also for the parents, teachers, staff members, school board, and community as a whole that has nurtured, encouraged, supported, and educated these well prepared young men and women. As with each year, this year s ceremony gave me the opportunity to brag a bit about our graduating class, and our district as a whole. My graduation remarks from this year s commencements are printed below: Congratulations graduates!! I know I am all that is standing between you and your senior video, so I will try to get quickly out of the way. However, I think it is important to brag about you a little bit first! You are the centerpiece of this great celebration, and have given those gathered with you much to be proud of! you have saved your families $181,000 in tuition at LCC alone - and double that total if you consider the cost of tuition at the 4 year schools many of you will eventually attend. and you did it well with a combined college GPA of over 3.5 As your principal, it is my goal for our grads to be not just college or career ready, but to be college and career successful 80% of you have successfully completed some college coursework 55% of you have successfully completed career and technical program or a work-based learning experience 100% of you have completed the rigorous program of study provided by your teachers at Fowler High School and which enabled those other accomplishments With the support of parents who taught you the values of good work ethic and responsibility, and with the skills developed by your teachers from elementary through high school, the class of 2018 is truly not only college and career ready, but college and career successful!! Perhaps more so than any other in school history. A little bit about the class of 2018 by the numbers: Record Scholarships over $700,000, mostly academic. Average of over $16,000 per graduate! An average SAT score that ranked in the top 5 in mid-michigan An abundance of college credits earned in high school, specifically 879 total college credits earned - an average of over 20 credits per graduate as many as 44 college credits complete with over 55% of you completing over a year s worth college while attending FHS You are the first class to have several of you complete the Michigan Transfer Agreement program that fulfills your general education requirements at virtually all 4 year colleges in Michigan - except Michigan! 14
After winning the CMAC Conference, the Lady Eagles took out Saranac to bring home the District Title this year. Final score was 20 0. Kennedy Koenigsknecht was named 1st team all-state, and Jolie Wieber and Maddie Veale received all state honorable mention. For the 2 nd year in a row Eric Kohagen qualified in Golf to compete at the State level after finishing in the Top 5 in the Regional Match. After also winning the CMAC Conference, the Fowler Eagles took out Tri Unity Christian to become District Champs in baseball. Final score was 3-0. Mason Pline and Dane Armbrustmacher also received all-state honors.
