General Information Thanks for your interest in being a part of our 16 th Annual United Way Wild Cook-Off! Please read through this entire packet as some information has changed from previous years. Inside this packet, you will find detailed rules and regulations, information on awards and judging, and a registration form with general contest guidelines and stipulations. If your company is interested in sponsoring a cooking team, please read through the entire packet before you submit your registration form. If your company participates in the 2016 United Way Wild Cook-Off, each team will be asked to send their team captain or a representative to the Team Captains meeting that will take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. At this meeting, teams will get more detailed information on the event and also pick cooking team locations. Meeting details below: TEAM CAPTAIN S MEETING Tuesday, October 11, 2016 10:30 AM 1101 Fourth Street, Alexandria, LA 2 nd Floor At the Team Captain s Meeting, each team will have a chance to select their cooking spots. Spots will be determined by the order we receive registration so get yours in today to reserve your spot first! Rules & Regulations Cooking Location The Wild Cook-Off will take place in downtown Alexandria on 3 rd Street between Desoto and Johnston Streets. Each team will be given an approximate 10x20 space on the street to set up, cook and serve. If you are cooking more than one dish and more space is required, please let us know, and we will try to accommodate your team. You are encouraged to bring a tent to set up in your space. Company logos and names may be displayed in your designated team spot. We are proud you are a supporter and want to recognize you and your efforts in our community! In addition, feel free to decorate your booth in a fun and tasteful manner. Set Up You may begin set up as early as 7:00 AM, Thursday, October 20, 2016. All vehicles must be removed from 3 rd Street as soon as you have unloaded. Cooking spots are assigned at Team Captains Meeting. You may provide tents or cover for your space. The final site locations will be sent the week before the event. Each team receives 5 aprons at registration; additionally, t-shirts will be available for purchase on a limited basis. s Teams are made up of one team captain and four assistants. The team captain for each team will be responsible for the conduct of his/her team, guests, and/or invitees. As well, the team captain will be responsible for his/her team's compliance with the rules and regulations. EXCESSIVE USE of alcoholic beverages will be grounds for disqualification. You may bring an ice chest, cooler, etc. filled with your favorite drinks for your team only. Vendors will be selling soft drinks, water and alcoholic beverages.

Rules & Regulations Supplies The United Way of Central Louisiana will provide each team with the following: 2 Tables 5 Chairs 5 Aprons per team (T-shirts will be available for sale) 250 Sample tasting cups 250 Tasting sporks Limited number of napkins Water from faucet for cooking purposes Money Jar (People s Choice Award) Cook it Here Any and all meat or main dishes that are entered into the judging must be cooked from scratch and within the constraints of the event. Pre-cooking, marinating, etc. will not be allowed prior to the start of the cookoff. Sauce: You may cook with sauce, but additional sauce may not be added once the meat is prepared for the judging. Keep it Clean and Safe Cooks are to prepare and cook in as sanitary a manner as possible. Cooking conditions are subject to inspection by judging committee. Precautions MUST be made to prevent fire threat. No Selling No participants of the Cook-Off are allowed to sell their food due to health department regulations. United Way will provide sample containers and utensils for visitors to sample your work and vote for it in the People s Choice Award contest.

Judging & Awards Judging Judging is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM (Time is subject to change. Teams will be notified the morning of event with the official judging time). Winners will be announced at 7:30 PM before the end of the event, and you must be present to win. There will be four judges per category. Judging Criteria There are four cooking categories: Barbeque, Ribs, Cajun, and Wild Game. Your entry will be judged on: Flavor Freshness Seasoning Presentation & Creativity: You are welcome to be as creative as you would like and use decorative platters, dishes, bowls, etc. Be as creative as you would like for each entry. Your tables and booths may be decorated, too. Overall Satisfaction BBQ (Roast, Brisket, Deer, etc.) Four (4) full slices, approximately ¼ inch thick Ribs Four (4) cut ribs, ½ rack or full rack Chicken, Duck, etc. ½ full jointed, breast portions Gumbo, Jambalaya, etc. ½ cup minimum Wild Cook- Off Awards First, second and third place taste awards are given for dishes in the Wild Game, Ribs, Cajun and Barbecue categories. People s Choice Award The people have the final say in this category! Guests at the event are invited to sample dishes at each cooking station. Please prepare enough food samples for 250 visitors. Your dish for the People s Choice does not have to be the same as what you prepare for judging. Attendees can then vote for their favorite food by placing money in the jar located at each team station. Teams are allowed to vote for themselves! All proceeds go to United Way of Central Louisiana to help people in Cenla! Best Presentation This award is presented to the team with the most visually appealing booth and creatively displayed dish.

Registration Form General Contest Guidelines & Stipulations The event will take place rain or shine. However, in the event that the weather is simply too extreme for the Wild Cook-Off to take place, United Way will cancel the event, and it will not be rescheduled. If this occurs, refunds will be made on the cooking team registration fee. Cooking teams must read and adhere to the 2016 United Way Wild Cook-Off rules & regulations. Cooking teams (every member) must sign a participation/liability in order to participate in the 2016 United Way Wild Cook-Off. Forms will be handed out to the team captains prior to the event. The event will be capped at 25 cooking teams, and teams will be selected on a first-come, firstserved basis. All 2015 participants will have the first opportunity to register. Registration will then open to the public/other workplace campaigns. The final deadline for all entries will be Friday, October 7, 2016. United Way of Central Louisiana must receive a company s completed registration form and registration fee in order to be eligible to participate in the 2016 Cook-Off.
