We are looking for 4-H youth age 10 and up who have an interest in cooking and wish to challenge their creativity in the kitchen. This event is designed to encourage youth to learn new skills in cooking to lead a healthier lifestyle through a fun and education team challenge. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Buffalo Farm to School program and other food and nutrition related programs in Erie County. Winning recipe will be featured on the Buffalo Public School menu as a Farm to School item in fall 2018. When: Friday, May 11 from 5-7:30pm Where: South Side Elementary (430 Southside Pkwy, Buffalo) There is a $5 entry fee per person to be paid on the day of the event Teams are to consist of 2-4 youth There will be a maximum of 10 teams Registration Opens March 21 and Closes May 4 Tentative Event Schedule: 5-5:30pm: Registration 5:30-6pm: Cooking Lesson and Event Rules
Don t forget to apply for the Erie County 4-H Scholarship, applications may be found on our website. Applications are due in the 4-H office or post marked by May 15, 2018. There are also scholarship opportunities from the Erie County Fair and the NY State Agricultural Fair organization. You can find the forms for these at www.ecfair.org or in your guidance office in the coming months. If you are in need of letters of recommendations from the 4-H office please give your educators 2 weeks of lead time. Looking for volunteers to table at the March for Science event put on by Science Demands Action. Will take place at Canalside in Buffalo on Saturday, April 14 th. Animals would be great. This year during the Erie County Fair Livestock Market Auctions we will be selling pies made by 4-H members to benefit the 4-H program. Do you want to learn how to make a pie? Perhaps brush up on pie making skills? Want to exhibit a fresh pie at the fair? Join us as we learn together! This program will be a 2 step opportunity: Step 1 Attend an educational workshop on May 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Marilla Methodist Church. You will learn about the history of pie making, food safety, fruit preparation, crust preparation and the how to by making your own personal mini pie. This workshop will be presented by the Basiles. Step 2 Participate in the actual pie making. You will make 2 pies, one for the auction and one for the 4-H member to take home (to bake and eat or freeze to bake later to exhibit at the fair at Daily's in East Aurora and in July. Please note: 1 parent/adult must accompany youth during both sessions Register Now @ Registrations will be limited to 10 currently registered 4-H members Questions? The fundraiser will officially begin on April 11 th and run through April 22 nd. As a reminder, this fundraiser will occur in all stores, and for the first time in Paper Clover history we will be accepting donations with online purchases at www.tractorsupply.com! 100% of funds raised benefit 4-H. 90% stays in the state they were raised in for leadership conferences and camps, and the other 10% is awarded to National 4-H Council for administration. Remember, any club that participates in-store during the fundraiser is eligible to enter the sweepstakes to win a $100 TSC gift card for club projects! We will be giving away (75) gift cards, and the club leader must be the one that enters. Club leaders are eligible to enter as many times as they participate in-store!
