LEAGUE RULES 1. The League shall be called The Nelson and District Badminton League. 2. a) The League and its competitions shall be administered by a League Management Committee (L.M.C.), consisting of Executive Members elected annually at the League A.G.M. with the power to co-opt associate members as and when necessary to the L.M.C. (Executive Members being Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Match Secretary and Treasurer). In the event of some unforeseen occurrence whereby the League Rules do not adequately cover a particular situation, a final decision will be made solely by the L.M.C. b) All disputes or appeals on any matter connected with the League shall be submitted in writing to the League Secretary within 7 days. c) Any team wishing to resign shall give notice in writing to the League Secretary and their results will then be deleted from the League Records. d) The L.M.C. will produce minutes of meetings and they shall be circulated to all clubs. e) Dates of all meetings will be circulated to all clubs who will be represented at all meetings by a club member. Each representative will take their turn on the L.M.C. Failure to attend a meeting by a club representative shall result in a 5.00 fine. 3. League Fees a) Entrance Fee Registration fee per club - 10.00 and 18.00 per team to be paid to the League Treasurer at the League Formation Meeting. Entrance Fee to be determined by the A.G.M. taking into consideration the previous year s balance sheet. b) Cup Fee - 5 per team per competition to be sent along with a list of player s names for each team, to the League Treasurer 14 days before the start of each competition.

c) Guarantee Bond - 30.00 per club to be paid to the league Treasurer by the start of the current season. The bond is to cover non- attendance at match fixtures. At the discretion of the L.M.C. this money is refundable providing that the teams comply with the League Rules. Any team not complying with the League Rules will immediately forfeit their 30.00 Guarantee bond and must therefore pay a further 30.00 Guarantee bond. A.G.M./FORMATION MEETING The A.G.M./Formation Meeting shall be held at the end of the season, but at least six weeks before the start of the following season. All Club Secretaries will be notified in writing at least 28 days before. All teams must send one representative; otherwise a fine of 5 will be imposed. All officials and members present shall have one vote. Any member wishing to have a proposal included in the Agenda of the A.G.M. must notify the League Secretary at least 14 days before, in writing, together with a signature of their seconders. Voting at an A.G.M. will be on a one vote one team system. Registration a) A player must be registered with the League Match Secretary in writing at least 7 days before being eligible to play in their first match. Closing date for registration being December 31 st of season. (In exceptional circumstances only, may registration after this date be accepted, at the L.M.C. s discretion). b) Players who take part in the Annual K/O s must be bona fide registered members of the clubs. MATCH PLAY RULES 1. A mixed team shall consist of two ladies and two men. Matches to consist of four mixed doubles sets, one ladies doubles set and one men s doubles set. A team failing to comply with this shall forfeit four games. 2. A player shall only represent one Club in any season, except by special permission of the L.M.C. 3. A Club with more than one team in the League should nominate four players (2men, 2 ladies) for all teams. The top two players (1 lady & 1 man, if more

than one team then 2 ladies & 2 men) should be starred using the handicaps and the other two players will only be entitled to play down in the lower team on a maximum of three occasions. 4. The League shall consist of two divisions although this may be varied by the Committee at the Formation Meeting. The number of teams in a division and the number of teams promoted or relegated shall be based on the relative strength and position of the teams in the previous season and to be decided by the L.M.C. 5. a) All matches to be played up to 21 points using the Rally Points scoring system where the side winning a rally adds a point to its score. If a game reaches 20 all, the game continues until one side reaches a 2 point gap or 30 points, whichever comes first. b) All matches to be played with Yonex Mavis synthetic shuttles of good speed and quality, to be provided by the home team. c) Any match may be played with feather shuttles if both teams agree. 6. If a match has not started within 15 minutes of the official time of start as stated in the handbook, the offending team shall forfeit 2 games. If after a further 15 minutes the match still has not started then the offending team shall forfeit 4 games. The order of play on the score sheet should be adhered to whenever possible. If a definite result has not been obtained within the time allowed, providing the match started promptly, the match to be concluded at the earliest possible date and Match Secretary to be informed. 7. a) The Home Team Captain to enter his team on the score sheet first, this is to be given to the Visiting Team Captain who will enter his team before start of play. Any alteration to be agreed upon by both Captains and a new score sheet written out. b) All match scores to be checked and signed by a member of each team. The completed sheet to be sent by the Home Team to the Match Secretary within 96 hours of match. Failure to comply with this rule shall mean the club concerned will be fined 5 and receive a 5 point penalty. c) If the match is unsatisfactory and a result cannot be agreed upon, then do not sign the score sheet and follow up the disagreement with the Match Secretary.

8. The teams which have scored the highest number of League points shall hold the Championship of their respective divisions. In the event of a tie on points for any League Championship the teams concerned shall play a deciding match on a neutral court. In any un-played match the defaulting team to lose all points and the non-defaulting team to receive an average. 9. If a match (League or Cup) be postponed, the Match Secretary must be informed of the postponement and of the date within 7 days of the original date. Failure to advise the match secretary of a postponement will result in a 5 point penalty to the club concerned. The only reason for postponement being non-availability of courts. Any match may be brought forward if mutually agreed by both teams and Match Secretary. Should teams fail to agree the new dates for postponed matches or replays, then the Match Secretary to arrange a new date. 10. If a player becomes ill or is hurt or sustains accidental breakage of his/her spectacles during play, the injured team may allow the other members of the team to substitute in the remaining games. Failing this the scores shall stand as at the time of the accident and all remaining games shall be forfeited by the player. 11. The trophies shall be held by the winning team and shall be returned to the Match Secretary in good condition, by the date of the Annual Handicap K/O or sooner if required by the L.M.C. Clubs failing to comply will be fined 5.00. a) The umpire shall be in complete charge of the game and responsible for calling faults and not the players. b) All players to wear predominantly white sportswear whenever possible. c) All players can only play in one match on the same night. COMPETITION RULES 1. The Pollard Cup is compulsory to all first division teams and open to all second division teams. The Sherratt Cup is compulsory to all second division teams. Teams shall consist of two men and two women and all matches to consist of six mixed doubles sets. 2. Match Secretaries to forward a list of names for each team in each competition to the League Match Secretary in writing 14 days before the start of the first competition. 3. All Cup competitions to be handicapped. The handicaps will be derived by the L.M.C. from the average points scored in league matches. Handicaps

will not be known by the teams competing in the cup matches until after the match has been completed. 4. All cup matches shall be arranged by the League Match Secretary. Teams will be notified of the date of their first fixture, along with their Handicap and the draw, at least 7 days before being required to play. 5. Any club with more than one team in any competition shall not be allowed to interchange players. The top two players (1 lady & 1 man, if more than one team then 2 ladies & 2 men) should be starred. Only named players shall be eligible to play unless L.M.C. permission has been granted. 6. All FINALS to be arranged by the L.M.C. on neutral courts and cost stood by the League. 7. League K/O Handicap Tournament The League will hold individual K/O Handicap Tournaments at the end of each season.
