ROUGH START TO BRONX VISIT--Kansas City kicked off its longest road trip of the season with a 7-2 defeat to the Yankees in front of a full house here on Thursday...Jakob Junis had a high pitch count and a couple of infield errors lead to his demise, as the second-year hurler fell to 5-11 on the year with his eighth straight losing decision spanning nine starts...he was solved for seven runs, but just three were earned, on nine hits with a pair of walks, three strikeouts and a hit by pitch, while needing 100 pitches to navigate just 4.2 innings...the hit batter was Aaron Judge in the first inning and a subsequent MRI revealed he incurred a chip fracture of his right wrist...shortstop Adalberto Mondesi made two-out errors in the first and fourth innings and the Yankees capitalized for the four unearned tallies...the Royals finally got on the board in the sixth when Salvador Perez hit his 16th home run of the year with a man aboard. ROYALS ACQUIRE A PAIR FOR MOOSE--In the early hours of this morning, the Royals completed a trade with Milwaukee, sending third baseman Mike Moustakas to the Brewers in exchange for outfielder Brett Phillips and right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez...Phillips, a 24-year old left-handed hitter out of Seminole, FL, hit.240 (62-for-258) in 71 games with 12 doubles, seven triples and six home runs for Colorado Springs (AAA), while also having three stints with the Brewers, going 4-for- 22...he has 52 career big league games with Milwaukee dating back to last season, hitting.257 (28-for-109) with three doubles, a triple and four home runs...phillips was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Astros in 2012 out of Seminole High School and was ranked as the Astros No. 2 prospect when he was traded by Houston along with three others to Milwaukee for outfielder Carlos Gomez, right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers and other considerations on July 30, 2015... Lopez, 25, has spent the majority of the year with Colorado Springs, going 3-3 with a 5.65 ERA in 24 appearances, earning five saves...he s also appeared in 10 games for the Brewers, going 0-1 with a 2.75 ERA, allowing six earned runs in 19.2 innings while fanning 15... Moustakas hit.249 in 98 games for the Royals with 20 home runs and a team-high 62 RBI, re-signing on March 10 after becoming a free agent...a member of the back-to-back American League Championship clubs and the 2015 World Series title club, Moustakas set the club record for homers in a season last year with 38. POST-BREAK SALVY HEATING UP--The lone player who didn t get a break when the All-Stars convened in Washington, Salvador Perez, has picked it up offensively both just prior to and since making his fifth consecutive start for the American League...with a home run here on Thursday night, Perez has batted.296 (16-for-54) while hitting safely in 12 of his last 13 games with three doubles, five homers and 15 RBI, while slugging at a.630 clip...things weren t going quite as well during June, when he batted just.158 (15-for-95) with four RBI, but since the calendar flipped to July he has already collected six more hits and knocked home 13 more runs, going 21-for-76 for a.276 mark with 17 driven in. MACHADO RECALLED--The Royals have recalled right-handed pitcher Andres Machado from Northwest Arkansas (AA) to serve as extra help in the bullpen for today s split twinbill...the 25-year old, who will wear #59, has not allowed a run in his last four relief appearances spanning 4.1 innings. GORDO AGAIN AMONG ASSIST ELITE--Five-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner Alex Gordon has not been tested since July 10 in Minnesota when Logan Morrison tried to stretch a double off the wall into a triple, but was denied by Gordon...it was Alex s eighth outfield assist this season, tying him for third in the A.L. and one behind league leaders Mitch Haniger and Leonys Martin...it was also Gordo s 90th assist since the beginning of 2010, which is two ahead of Colorado s Gerardo Parra (88), who ranks second in that span...his career total is also the second-most in Royals history, trailing only Amos Otis, who had 116 between 1970-83. KC S TOP SKIPPER--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost recorded his 1,100th career win on May 18 vs. the Yankees and has since upped that career total to 1,117, which is good for seventh among active skippers, while Detroit s Ron Gardenhire is next in the eighth spot with 1,112 career wins...with last Sunday s win over Minnesota, Ned passed former Pittsburgh skipper, Danny Murtaugh (1,115), for 52nd on the all-time list...yost is 660-703 in the regular season with the Royals, blowing past Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins (1975-79)...he s the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is sixth among active managers in games (2,322)...his postseason winning pct. of.710 (22-9) is tops among all managers in history who have worked at least 20 playoff games...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers (2003-2008)...he compiled a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons. vs. Yankees (2018) vs. Yankees (career) On Road (career) Severino (career) Sabathia (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio.250 4 1 0 0.304 23 7 2 3.256 234 60 10 31.000 3 0 0 0.400 5 2 0 0 Butera.000 2 0 0 0.133 30 4 0 2.201 587 118 14 62 - - - - -.333 3 1 0 1 Dozier.222 9 2 0 1.222 9 2 0 1.222 81 18 1 6.000 3 0 0 0.000 2 0 0 1 Duda.000 4 0 0 0.234 111 26 4 13.237 1475 350 67 222.000 3 0 0 0.222 9 2 1 1 Escobar.182 11 2 0 0.212 189 40 1 14.253 2677 678 21 208.286 7 2 0 0.167 18 3 0 0 Goodwin.286 7 2 0 0.286 7 2 0 0.237 177 42 6 24 - - - - - - - - - - Gordon.000 15 0 0 0.230 265 61 5 26.256 2813 721 87 293.167 6 1 0 0.171 35 6 0 2 Herrera.000 3 0 0 0.000 3 0 0 0.174 46 8 0 4 - - - - - - - - - - Merrifield.375 16 6 0 0.341 41 14 2 4.282 631 178 9 56.333 6 2 0 0.500 8 4 0 0 Mondesi.500 4 2 0 0.267 15 4 0 0.218 142 31 5 19 - - - - - - - - - - Perez.286 14 4 2 5.236 148 35 7 22.270 1755 473 81 250.200 5 1 0 0.200 15 3 2 4 Phillips - - - - - - - - - -.234 64 15 2 9 - - - - - - - - - - Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
