Roan Horse & Pony Society of Australia Inc. ABN: 58393981030 Colour RULES & REGULATIONS Horses and ponies which are genetically solid coloured roan are acceptable for registration by the Society. Horses of roan colouration which also exhibit appaloosa or paint characteristics shall not be eligible for registration. Roans which have turned grey shall not be eligible for registration. Cremellos or perlinos which have proven that they are genetically roan by producing roan progeny to a non-roan other parent or by confirming roan DNA zygosity testing shall be eligible for registration. Where the term horse is used throughout these Regulations it shall be taken to mean horse or pony. Horses with white markings above the elbows & stifles may be eligible for registration at the discretion of the Committee. Blue eyes are permitted. Should appaloosa, paint or grey characteristics develop after registration, the registration will be amended to that of Appendix Registration and the horse or pony shall be ineligible for exhibition in roan classes, only in classes for Appendix Roans. Horses exhibiting heavy ticking, sabino or rabicano characteristics which are not genetically roan shall be ineligible for roan registration. Registration Requirements Application for registration will only be accepted from the legal owner of the horse who must be a financial member of the Society. If the applicant is a company or partnership then the application must be in the same name as that appearing in the membership records. Clear colour photographs must be submitted with any application for registration. Where doubt exists as to whether the horse is genetically roan or ticked or exhibits roaning it must be sight inspected by a classifier approved by the Society or must have a confirming roan DNA zygosity test. Horses exhibiting overo, tobiano, appaloosa or grey characteristics or coat colour will be ineligible for registration as a roan and will only be registered as an appendix roan.

Registration Categories: The Society maintains the following registers 1. Foal Recording Register All colts must be foal recorded and then adult registered between the age of two & four years as at 1 st August or before they are used at stud, whichever occurs sooner, by submitting an application with photos or by being sight classified and providing a Veterinary Report confirming they have two testicles descended into the scrotum or a copy of adult registration certificate from a breed society with that requirement. Fillies & geldings with grey parentage must also be foal recorded unless they have been DNA tested as not carrying the grey allele. Fillies & geldings of appaloosa, palouse or unknown parentage must also be foal recorded. Fillies & geldings must be adult registered between the age of two & four years as at 1 st August by submitting an application with photos or by being sight classified. If horses are not adult registered by the age of four they will lose all privileges of registration. 2. Adult Stud Book Register Mares, fillies & geldings which are genetically roan may be adult registered from birth subject to the exclusion noted in 1 (Foal Recording Register). Stallions & colts 2 years & over which are genetically roan may be adult registered. Proof of breeding will only be accepted upon production of a service certificate or copy of an approved breed society registration certificate. 3. Foundation Roan Register Registration requirements are the same as for Foal Recorded and Stud Book Roans except that this register is for those horses exhibiting the grey gene or a colour pattern that would make them ineligible for Stud Book registration. These horses may only be shown in classes for Appendix Roans, they may not compete against Roans in Roan classes. Registration Procedures 1. Applications for registration will be examined to determine whether a horse meets the colour requirements. If any doubt exists the applicant will be contacted to arrange for a sight inspection or requested to perform confirming roan DNA zygosity testing. 2. Horses may be shown with registration pending only with approval from the Committee. 3. The Registrar will only recognise ancestry if it is authenticated by service certificates or registration certificate of a breed society. 4. All horses are required to be branded or microchipped with the exception of Quarter Horses that are registered AQHA, they must be DNA typed.

5. Members with breeding stock are able to register a stud prefix and brand with the Society. They will only need to submit one name for registration. 6. Members applying to register a horse of unknown breeding must include three names on any application for registration. 7. If a horse is already registered in a breed society, then the registered name must be used. 8. The applicant must be able to prove ownership of the horse either by providing a bill of sale, service certificate or certificate of registration from another society with the horse already in their name. 9. The Society may issue a duplicate certificate of registration provided the owner makes application in writing giving full details of the circumstances regarding the loss of the original certificate. The duplicate certificate will be issued with the wording Duplicate Certificate clearly marked. A fee as determined by the Society may be charged for replacement. 10. No changes are to be made to the registration certificate reverse side. Any alteration or addition, excluding transfer information, is to be made by the Registrar. De- Registration A horse may be de- registered by the Society - upon written application by the owner - if the horse was registered in error - if the horse develops unacceptable characteristics - if the horse develops appaloosa or grey characteristics it will be transferred to the Appendix Registry - if the horse is subsequently proven not to be of a colour acceptable for registration with the Society - whose registered owner has been expelled or against whom disciplinary action has been taken - for any reason whatsoever without assigning reason thereof De-registration of a horse shall not constitute disqualification from reregistration. Leasing In order for a lease of a horse to be recognised by the Society a lease form must be signed by the lessor and the lessee both of whom must be financial members of the Society. The original registration certificate must be lodged with the form and a duplicate certificate issued to the lessee. The Society will not enter into any disputes should they arise. Notice of termination of lease must be in writing to the Registrar.

Transfers Transfers must be completed on the reverse of the registration certificate and must be forwarded to the Society together with the transfer fee in order for the transfer to be completed. The purchaser must be a financial member of the Society. Selling A Registered Horse As all registration certificates remain the property of the Society, no registered horse is to be sold without papers. The only way to dispose of papers is to apply to the Society to have the horse de-registered. Transfers must otherwise be submitted for all horses sold. If a horse is sold through auction to an unknown buyer the registration certificate and a signed transfer form should be sent to the Society with the buyer s name left blank. The Committee reserves the right to transfer a registered horse and issue a duplicate certificate of registration, where proof of ownership in the form of a bill of sale or transfer with another breed Society is provided, in the absence of a correctly completed roan transfer. Death of Registered Stock The owner of a registered horse should notify the Society of the death of the horse. Age of the Horse The age of the horse will be calculated on the basis of a year from the first day of August of the breeding season foaled. Showing 1. Owners/lessees are required to remain financial members of the Society in order to be eligible to exhibit horses in classes for registered roans. 2. All exhibits must be registered with the Roan Horse & Pony Society of Australia Inc. Proof of registration may be requested and must be shown on demand. Exhibits must be shown in the name of the owner or lessee as noted in the Society records. 3. Horses may be shown plaited, unplaited or hogged and shall not be discriminated against on breed type. Once exhibits have entered the judging ring there shall be no change of handler without the permission of the judge. 12. The ring steward or judge has the authority to request the removal of any exhibit from the ring if its behaviour, in their opinion, is dangerous, causing interference or disadvantaging other exhibits. 13. The use of any artificial aid eg plastic bags, shakers, cigarette lighters, excessive use of whips to excite the exhibit is not acceptable and may result in disqualification of the exhibit. 14.
