R Country Golfer Golfer SIGNATURE COURSE VOL 20 ISSUE 7 July, 2018 www.dlfgolfresort.com Dear Member, Planning is in full swing for the exciting activities at the Club to keep you and your family engaged. Determinately, the sultry, sweaty days have paved the way for monsoon showers lowering the ambient temperatures. This has officially marked the commencement of the Golfing season, wherein we plan the calendar starting with the Independence Day Cup on 15th August followed by Parent-Child Tournament sponsored by Hero. Shaun and his team have left no stone unturned to prepare the course for the season. Our quotidian golfers have appreciated the course which has played so well inspite of the summer heat. The Sports Complex was abuzz with varied Sunday Pool activities like Aqua Aerobics, Water Polo and the most awaited Scuba Camp which kept the excitement high for parents and children. The Scuba Camp was sold out as we saw motivated parents along with their children enrol for the activity. In the offering for the fitness conscious, we have launched Sugarcane juice as a part of the menu. Don't miss the numerous health benefits of the juice and grab the opportunity to order your fresh glass the next time you are at the Pavilion. A frolicsome nite with Cyrus Sahukar was organized last month for the members and their families. The weather Gods surely blessed us with no rains during the show. Through a different medium of comedy, Cyrus ensured the crowd had a great time. The 60-minute stage time, sponsored by Diageo, was followed by dinner and cocktails. Look out for the Swimming Gala coming up soon and our traditional 15th August DLF Independence Day Cup and a variety of food promotions at the Pavilion. Scuba Diving Happy Golfing! Sports Complex Scuba Diving From the 28th to 29th a short 2-day basic course in Scuba Diving was organised at our swimming pool. Yet again, Archana Sardana our Dolphin ensured all young and old have a time of their life, under and over water, for two days. The event was well subscribed by 18 enthusiastic members. Benefits From our Superintendent s of Sugar Cane Quill Juice Mid-year playing conditions The North Indian weather patterns have taken another pivot as we move through the seasons and now move from the extremely high temperatures of May & June to some relief with the arrival of the monsoon season and to date some steady rainfall recordings. The lower temperatures are a welcome relief for the turfgrass on our golf courses which enable the playing surfaces to grow without the pressures of high temperatures on the growing systems. The rainy weather does, however, bring different stressors such as high humidity and extended low light conditions. These factors can cause significant injury to plant health after prolonged periods as these conditions are perfect environments for turfgrass diseases to develop and damage playing surfaces. Extended low light conditions will see a slow decline in the health of the playing surfaces as light is a key ingredient in the Shaun Satterly manufacturing of energy requirements for growth and development. The correct management programs have been implemented to ensure the health of playing surfaces during this stressful period and we are hoping for intermittent good weather throughout the monsoon period. Best management practices are implemented on the course so as to help protect plant health to endure the humid, rainy and low light conditions. Some of these practices may have an impact on the playing experience, but have been implemented with the concept of protecting the course as much as possible by reducing the wear and tear on the playing surfaces. One such practice is carts on paths during this period of the year. Extensive cart traffic during wet, humid, low light conditions will contribute to the decline of playing surfaces. Thank you for your co-operation during this time of the year and enjoy the golfing experience in the cooler temperatures. A SUGARY CHILDHOOD INDULGENCE!!! Fitness Tip of the Month by Anjali Yadav Anjali Yadav Golf & Meditation? Who would have thought of it? Although there are no studies on a direct effect of meditation on golf performance, there are many studies on how meditation can improve concentration, affect stress/ anxiety, mood, thoughts - negative to positive, and quieten the mind. Golf is indeed a mentally demanding game. If you find yourself feeling distracted on the golf course, or maybe you don't feel distracted but your game just isn't as good as you would want it to be, meditation is just the kind of practice and training you need. Sit upright, close your eyes and focus on your breath the flow of air, the expansion of your chest in and out. When your mind wanders, notice that, Meditation and bring it back to your breath. Start with 10 minutes and only sit longer if you feel the length is too short. Don t force yourself to meditate longer if you are not ready to do that. In time you might like to extend your meditation to 25 minutes. That s a length that allows you to settle your mind without causing too much stress on your body. Most importantly, shrug off any shoulds. Learn Golf with Akhil Nayar Stay Fit with Shilpa Arora DELETE THESE SNEAKY SOURCES OF SUGAR IN YOUR DIET 1. Ketchup: With 4 grams in a tablespoon, you are basically adding sugar to your eggs or toast. And most ketchups contain high - fructose corn syrup which may lead to liver disease, diabetes and an unhealthy gut. 2. Non-fat yogurt or milk: When fat is removed from dairy, the body absorbs sugar very quickly. Always pick full fat over low fat and plain over flavoured varieties, that can pack over 30 grams of sugar. 3. Salad dressings: Fat free might sound appealing, however, always remember when they take away fat, they add sugar. (some dressings have 15 grams per serving). Instead opt for extra virgin olive oil with apple cider vinegar for a tangy dressing loaded with nutrients. Golf Academy Honour Board Keep it simple Keep it Simple: Every player I ve ever taught has asked me how to get more consistent results from their swing and ball striking. One of the most fundamental ways to achieve this is to work on a one-piece takeaway. We want the hands and body to work in sync with each other. You don t want to be too hands-oriented as this would cause you to underuse the body, not get as much power, speed and a lot less control of the club. The feeling of a good takeaway is to start moving the club with your shoulders and chest, not your hands. Players who use only hands during the backswing loose power & consistency in their ball striking. The key for a good solid swing is a connected takeaway. So an important fundamental for consistency in the golf swing is to "KEEP IT TOGETHER" GOLD DIVISION - MEDAL ROUND Winner Runner-Up Category A Aditya Pande Tushar Kohli Category B Surya Yadav Vihaan Reddy Category C Alysha Dutt Sana Gupta SILVER DIVISION - MEDAL ROUND Winner Runner-Up Category A Kunal Bhati Khushay Chadha Category B Armaan Chopra Angad Singh Category C Mahreen Bhatia Sara Jaison & Shivenn Gupta
