Aloha Paddlers, On behalf of Brisbane Outrigger Canoe Club I would like to personally welcome you to Race 6 of the 2016 South Queensland Zone OC1/2 V1 Ski and SUP series. The regatta will be held on Saturday 3 December 2016 at Bells Beach, Clontarf on the Redcliffe Peninsula. For your information Bells Beach is the 2 nd beach on your right after you ve crossed the Hornibrook bridge to the Redcliffe penninsula. As per AOCRA guidelines the distances will be an 8km short course & a 17km long course. We will of course be offering short course & junior events. Those that were lucky to race last year at the same venue will remember great conditions where had, particularly in the afternoon long course. As normal all nominations for our Regatta are to be completed online at www.aocra.com.au & would request that to ensure we run on time your nominations are made early. We will have great coffee available along with food & drink stalls to satisfy your prerace / post-race refueling needs. At the conclusion of the days racing we will also be hosting the 2016 SQZ OC1/2 V1 Ski SUP series presentations and OC1 prize draw, so please hang around and enjoy the company of your fellow paddlers over a light meal kindly provided by the South Queensland Zone. RACE DIVISIONS Age rules for all divisions are as per AOCRA rulings. FEES & NOMINATION INFORMATION Nominations close: Wednesday 30 November 2016 Senior OC1/2 V1 Ski SUP - $20 per person Junior OC1/2 V1 Ski SUP - $10 per person Non AOCRA members add $8 for day insurance Registration in advance for all paddlers will be online via the AOCRA website www.aocra.com.au. No registrations will be accepted on the day. Late fees will apply after midnight Wednesday 30 November 2016. $100 per adult for registrations after cut off day $50 per junior registrations after cut off day These fees will be paid to the host club in same splits as normal fees In addition, the RACE DIRECTOR has the discretion to deny the late registration to paddle if there are concerns about safety boat ratio ANYONE WHO IS REGISTERING LATE OR HAVING TROUBLE REGISTERING WILL NEED TO CONTACT CONNIE WITHRINGTON ON 0422 937 483 SAFETY Leg ropes (one per craft) and PFDs (one per paddler) are mandatory. If conditions are rough, OC paddlers may be required to carry a spare paddle. CANOE UNLOADING, TRAILER PARKING & WASH DOWN FACILITIES Canoe unloading/loading, rigging and launching can take place near the Pelican Park Boat Ramp located off Hornibrook Esplanade opposite Thomas St. There is adequate trailer parking in the adjacent parking lot.
REFRESHMENTS Hot BBQ food will be available for purchase all day as well as baked goods and cold drinks. A coffee van has also been organized for your caffeine needs. RULES AND REGULATIONS Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association rules, as amended, will apply to all events in the regatta. COMPETITOR ELIGIBILITY Competitors must be AOCRA members, unless otherwise approved by AOCRA. Each Club will register all AOCRA members with the Zone Registrar (including proof of age where required) at least 14 days prior to that said members first Regatta. REGATTA LOCATION Bells Beach, Hornibrook Esplanade, Clontarf CAR PARKING Ample car parking is available within Pelican Park or along Hornibrook Esplanade. Please obey all Council and street signs with regard to parking. No parking of vehicles of any kind is permitted on grassed areas or outside designated spaces. TRAILER PARKING Trailer parking is available adjacent to the Pelican Park Boat Ramp which is accessed off Hornibrook Esp next to the Visitor Information Centre opposite Thomas Street, Clontarf. Craft can then be paddled the short distance to Bells Beach.
START AND FINISH INFORMATION, COURSES Short course and all junior races will start from the beach in knee deep water, handlers if required will be allowed. The long course race will start and finish between the starter or the timekeepers located on land and a buoy. All start lines will be approximately 300 meters long and finish lines will be 50 meters long. Short Course Details SHORT COURSE MAP 8KM The course will be set given the days conditions in mind. From the beach the race will head in a south easterly direction, after approximately 3km s you will make an ama turn around the Otter Rock starboard marker, craft will then head in a northerly direction for 1km before making an ama turn around a buoy, craft will then head back to the start the same way they came. Craft will finish between a buoy to the east of the viewing platform located at the western end of Bells Beach, the finish line will be approximately 50m wide.
LONG COURSE MAP 17 KM In the event of any wind from a northerly direction the long course race will start from the northern wall of the Scarborough Marina, craft will then paddle approx. 3km in an easterly direction before making a non ama turn around the Scarborough Tripod, craft will then head in a southerly direction for approx. 10.5km to the Otter Rock starboard marker where they will then make a final non ama turn and paddle approx. another 3km finishing between a buoy to the east of the viewing platform located at the western end of Bells Beach, the finish line will be approx. 50m wide. In the event of any wind from a southerly direction the course will be reversed.
JUNIOR & ALTERNATE COURSES All junior races will be held within Bramble Bay, details of the course directions will be determined on the day, depending on wind and tide etc. Alternate courses will be either a triangle or an out and back course in Bramble Bay. It will be 2 or 3 laps depending on wind, tide etc.
