Additionally, students attempting gradings, with a reliable working partners, has also been problematic for many applicants over the recent years (partner illnesses & absences on the day have also taken its toll). As from January 1st 2018 all those attempting black-belt grades from 1st to 3rd Dan will no longer be required to perform Gyo-Enbu. Page 2 英国和道会空手道連盟 -本部道場 British Wadokai s Crusader Award 2017 Michael Diggle Nidan has been awarded British Wadokai s Loyalty & Dedication [Crusader] Award. Award Converting from Shotokan Karate to Wadoryu, some years ago, to become one of the most respectful, honourable, dedicated, loyal and enthusiastic members within British Wadokai. Since joining British Wadokai, Mike San trains regularly thee times a week, also assisting with the teaching for Gary Swift Kyoshi on Thursdays & Richard House 4th Dan on Tuesdays at the Plymouth University Karate Club. PLUS, Mike San also runs his own training sessions, at the Plymouth University, on Sunday afternoons. During the University holidays you will also see him training at the BWK Honbu training nights. His enthusiasm is not just confined to traditional Wadoryu Karate sessions, as he also runs numerous self-defence classes for University Students at Plymouth University, in the hope to persuade them into the normal Wadoryu Karate training sessions. He attends as many BWK (as well as BWF) courses as he can, which has also made him quite well-known among other clubs and individuals within BWK & BWF. He also represents the British Wadokai Plymouth University Club at numerous tournaments & competitions, etc. Well done to Michael Diggle Nidan for his recognised achievement. Letters. 19th December 2017. These Kihon Gumite were taught to Sensei Gary Swift Kyoshi, in 1976, by the Founder himself. Gohonme; Attacker (A) - Left: Tobikomizuki-jodan, gyakuzuki-chudan. Page 4 British Wadokai & British Wado Federation Licence Discrepancies Each month the Licence Office deals with numerous licence discrepancies, which takes up extra valuable time trying to sort out. These discrepancies include late (and very late) renewals, resulting in Membership Registration cancellation, Insurance expiries, Inadequate form-filling, lack of remittance, lack of photographs, incorrectly filled in forms, unsigned forms, unsigned cheques, bounced cheques, etc., etc. The list goes on. However, as from now, just to highlight how many discrepancies the Licence Office receives each month, from each British Wadokai club/ group, we have now included this graph below to highlight the problem areas. Many of these discrepancies within British Wadokai, however, could be [and CAN be] eliminated in one fell-swoop if clubs were to adhere to the proper administration that is already available and there in place to be used... For example, for renewals, the BWK Club Attendance Record Cards (which only needs a tick, stamp, or initials each time the student attends), which few clubs seem to adopt, highlights to both the student and to the Club Secretary/Instructor exactly how many sessions have been attended and when the licence exactly expires. (These cards are also essential for all gradings, and ESPECIALLY essential requirements for inclusion with the black-belt applications.) If this is lost, and as all students should [MUST] have in their possession valid BWK Licences, which has an insurance-membership expiry chit on the last page. If the correct protocols are maintained there should be NO licence discrepancies and/or late renewals anywhere within British Wadokai or the British Wado Federation. IT IS THE INDIVIDUAL S OWN RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE MEMBERSHIP, INSURANCE & LICENCE - AND TO RE- R NEW ON TIME OR BEFORE EXPIRY! Don't place yourself, your club, or your instructors at risk Keep your li-l cence up-to to-date! IT IS A PROVEN FACT BWK Students and Clubs that CORRECTLY use the BWK Club Re- cord Attendance Cards have ZERO licence discrepancies through overdue licence applications. Page 13 Kikioji, Mikuzure and Futanren 聞き置じ見崩れ不鍛錬 One who practices karate learns quickly that you can learn how to fight and still can lose the fight. The one with most practice, has often the best percentages to win, but nobody is invincible. Kikioji, Mikuzure and Futanren is about the three possible causes of defeat. It is interesting to see that two elements are connected to emotion and one to rationality. The first one concerning an emotional response is Kikioji. Kikioji 聞き及じ To fear your opponent because of o f his reputation. Kikiobu means to hear of. You might hear stories about someone else. Heroic stories. Dangerous stories. For sure above your level. And by hearing this about your opponent.. you are already at a disadvantage. Mikuzure: 見崩れ To fear your opponent because of his dangerous appearance. Mikuzure is a specific word that consists of two kanji. The first one Mi means body and Kuzure means to destroy or to crumble. It is as if you collapse by the mere sight of your opponent. His appearance makes you collapse at first glance. Mentally, physically, or both. Again, you are at a disadvantage. Futanren: 不鍛錬 To fear your opponent due to inadequate training. If one is not influenced by his opponent, then he can still be insecure, because one knows that he is not prepared enough for the fight. The only way to solve this is more practice.
