Poule D eau Open The last registered Skeet shoot of the year is the Poule D eau Open at Lafayette Skeet Academy October 15 and 16, 2016. Actually these are two separate shoots. One is a 28 Gauge 200 target marathon and the second is a.410 Bore 200 target marathon. Both shoots are part of the Louisiana Marathon Buckle Race. Shooters who needed registered targets for another Gauge in our Buckle Race were welcome to register targets only that would meet their need. Frank Tucker came over from Texas to take the 28 Gauge Champion honors with 195/200. David Hebert took Runner-Up with a 192 and Roland Thibodeaux took Third in the 28 Gauge Event with 191. Actually, Roland won a shoot-off with Glen Dawson to claim Third. On Sunday, Roland Thibodeaux took the.410 Bore Champion Honors posting 189/200, Hot on his heels was Burt Hoffpauir with 188 for Runner-Up. Junior shooter Matthew Abshire claimed Third posting 184. These shoots are always fun. They come after the World Championships and everyone seems relaxed. Lafayette Skeet Club will begin the 2017 Skeet Year with the Crawfish Étouffée Open on March 5, 2017. QUOTABLE QUOTES The smells of Christmas are the smells of childhood Richard Paul Evans, The Christmas Box The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn't for any religious reasons. They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin. Jay Leno Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love. Hamilton Wright Mabie I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. Charles Dickens I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time. Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas can be celebrated in the school room with pine trees, tinsel and reindeers, but there must be no mention of the man whose birthday is being celebrated. One wonders how a teacher would answer if a student asked why it was called Christmas. Ronald Reagan In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall! News From The High House (A Message for Louisiana Skeet Shooters) Dear Louisiana Skeet Shooters: I want to take this opportunity to express what an honor and a privilege I feel to serve as your president for the next two years. Previous presidents of LSSA have set a high standard which I only hope that I can come close to matching. I am sure you will agree that the best part of being an LSSA shooter are the people you meet and friends you make. Your Board of Directors have already met to plan the LSSA shoot schedule and to begin making plans for the State Skeet Shoot for next year. We will continue to have the Marathon Shoots for the Marathon Buckle Race, so when you get the shoot schedule you will want to begin making plans to attend as many of these as possible. I would also like to take this opportunity to express appreciation from all of us to Doug Frey and Christy Gay for the super job they have done over the last two years as President and Secretary-Treasurer. Roland Thibodaux and I will try our very best to live up to their standard of excellence. As this is Doug s last issue of Red Chute Gazette until after the first of next year, Lynn and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a prosperous New Year. Most Sincerely, Wayne Tanner President Louisiana Skeet Shooting Association Page 25
2016 Louisiana Marathon Buckle Race The results are in for the 2016 Louisiana Marathon Buckle Race. This was the second year of the statewide competition which was designed to encourage Louisiana Skeet shooters to participate in shoots at clubs other than their own home club and to promote the sport in our state. To qualify, Louisiana Skeeters had to shoot at qualifying 200 target marathon events in each gauge (12, 20, 28 and.410 bore). The competitors also had to shoot qualifying marathons at more than one club in the state. 2016 was a tough year for Skeet in Louisiana. Several of our Marathon events were cancelled because of heavy rains. Some of our shooters fell short of the required four guns. Yet, in looking at the clubs the competitors did shoot at, it was obvious many of our shooters were traveling the state to participate at other clubs. The LSSA Board was pleased with that result and we will have a 2017 Louisiana Marathon Buckle Race. Congratulations to the 2016 winners who will receive some very nice belt buckles at the 2017 Awards Banquet in July for their effort. The winners are: There were no D and E Class qualifiers this year. Several people would have won buckles in those classes had they shot qualifying marathons in one more gauge. Doug Frey Page 26

THE REASON FOR THE SEASON Luke 2:1-21 KJV And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. Page 36
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him. Page 37

THE RED CHUTE GAZETTE DEAL Mission Statement The goal of the Red Chute Gazette is to promote the game of American Skeet. Our target market includes Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Our goal is accomplished through publication and distribution an Internet only magazine containing items of interest to those individuals participating in, promoting and supporting registered skeet shoots. Subject matter includes calendars of upcoming events, shoot flyers, shoot reports and pictures. Also included are articles and stories about bird hunting, travel and food. The Deal The Red Chute Gazette will publish flyers advertising registered skeet shoots for your gun club at no cost to your club. Simply send us your flyer in Microsoft Word or PDF format via E-Mail. That s FREE! The Catch If we agree to publish your shoot flyers, you agree to provide us with a shoot report, write-up or article suitable for printing in the Red Chute Gazette. Include pictures (jpeg or gif files) if possible. It doesn t have to be lengthy and it doesn t have be worthy of a Pulitzer. Just tell or show our readers about the fun you had. What about Sporting Clays and Trap or other events? The mission of the Red Chute Gazette is to promote interest and participation in registered Skeet. Sporting Clays and Trap are not subjects we focus on. We recognize that many gun clubs offer events other than Skeet. We are happy to provide commercial advertising space for clubs that wish to promote other shooting related events... Please contact us for our very reasonable rates for commercial advertisers To take advantage of this service contact Doug Frey by phone at (318) 635-6218 or via E-Mail at publisher@redchutegazette.com. 2015 All Rights Reserved Douglas F.
