Thomson River tightened for room at the start between Celestial Jewel and National Velvet, both of which shifted ground. Miss Two Pairs slow to begin. Hes The Boss began awkwardly. Raced erratically through the middle stages. Anaheim wide without cover. Magic Word wide without cover. Race 2 NO. 1 CAR WASH MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1400 metres: Magmellou slow to begin. Hazard Ahead steadied passing the 400 metres to avoid the heels of Magmellou (App B. Thompson), which shifted away from Trending Hard (D. Oliver), which shifted out. Stewards notified B. Thompson and D. Oliver to exercise more care when in similar circumstances. Nickleby rider J. Rule reported the gelding was not suited by the fast tempo of the event and may need to be ridden more aggressively in future starts. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. I Aint The One rider D. Race 3 PANTAC PROTECTIVE SERVICES 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Toorak Belle began awkwardly. Peace Wanted slow to begin. Fontein Lad raced keenly in the early and middle stages with blinkers on for the first time today.
Curata Princess raced wide without cover. Toorak Cowboy near the 250 metres was checked when tightened for room between Fontein Lad which shifted ground when laying in before being straightened by app. B. Thompson, and Sherpa Trail (R. Maloney) which shifted out before being straightened. In all of the circumstances app. B. Thompson was reprimanded and R. Maloney was severely reprimanded. Land Of Plenty rider M. Dee was unable to ride out to the line due to racing tightly to the inside of the heels of Sherpa Trail. Eloquent Belle app. J. McNeil could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly, which was eased down in the home straight. Trainer R. Laing will be advised that before the filly would be permitted to race again, it must perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an official trial. Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 4 at 1.38 p.m. Race 4 STERILINE RACING MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres: Interchange Emily slow to begin. Magics Big Secret raced ungenerously for most of the event and rounding the home turn, hung out. Trainer N. Harnett was advised that a warning would be recorded against the geldings racing manners. Black Comedy - shortly after straightening was checked to avoid the heels of Golden Child, after having been taken in by Pop Queen, which when disappointed for a clear run to the outside of Libertine Miss, then shifted in away from Carterista(D Oliver), which was racing to its outside and shifted in slightly. Stewards deemed no one rider fully responsible but notified D Oliver to exercise more care in similar situations. Pop Queen disappointed for a clear run over the concluding stages between One Blink and Carterista, which shifted out under pressure. From passing the 300 metres until approaching the 50 metres, was held up for clear running. Aagas began awkwardly. Marthick began awkwardly.
Pharrell after beginning well, raced in a more forward position than usual. Via Cavour raced wide throughout. Bumped with Heavens Reject on two occasions near the 1000 metres. Tightened for room over the concluding stages between Nic Nac, which was being taken out, and Hard To Kiss. which had shifted in slightly when racing tight on the inside of Gee Whizzer, which shifted in slightly. Ronns Moss hampered shortly after the start by Brookwater which was taken out by Valtimor. Near the 1200 got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Grey Sambucca. Raced keenly through the middle stages. Gee Whizzer raced wide throughout. Elegantly Wasted hung out in the straight from the 300 metres. Staghorn held up for clear running from the 150 metres and went to the line not fully tested. Nic Nac approaching the winning post was tightened for room between Valtimor and Free Speech, which after initially shifting out was then taken out further by Sienna Symphony (M. Walker) which had shifted out away from Izenashark, which was also shifting out. M. Walker was severely reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to straighten his mount. Rock Spur rider J. Gin Lizzie turned out away from the heels of Elegantly Wasted at 70 metres due to Thumbtacks being taken out by Angry Gee, which had been shifting out under pressure
before being straightened by App. E. Brown. E. Brown was reprimanded and notified he would be expected to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. Race 9 LADIES DAY 11 TH SEPTEMBER CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Singleraine as J. Rule was unable to make the weight, he was replaced by J. McNeil. Subsequently, J. Rule was fined $200 (AR120b). Stormy Shore slow to begin. Cosmic Angel bumped at the start by Caruselle, which shifted out. Miss Eeyore overraced in the middle stages and got its head up when being restrained near the 800 metres.
