The Upper Teign Fishery Nr Moreton Hampstead, Devon

The Upper Teign Fishery A famous stretch of the River Teign situated in the Dartmoor National Park. Exeter 10 miles Bristol 90 miles The River Teign One of the west countries top game fishing rivers. The north and south Teign rise high in the moors of the Dartmoor National Park and join near Chagford. The river runs through a dramatic woodland gorge which starts beneath Castle Drogbar and continues for approximately 7 miles. The Upper Teign Fishery The Fishing Rights on the River Teign extend to approximately 5.3 miles (about 8,560m) with some of the very best brown and sea trout fishing in Devon. The fishery comprises of three distinct beats. The Upper Teign Fishery has been let to the Upper Teign Fishing Association for many years. Beat 1 Approximately 1,550m or 1 mile. This is the top beat which starts at Daubeney s Pit and runs down to Fingle Bridge with single bank fishing on the south bank. Brown trout have been stocked since 2003 and this stretch often accounts for most of the trout on the Upper Teign. Access to this beat is via Fingle Bridge where there is plenty of car parking. Beat 2 Approximately 4,460m or 2.77 miles. This is the middle beat and the most renowned. This includes the most and largest variety of pools which can fish well for trout at any time and offers some of the best brown trout fishing on the fishery. Daubeney s Pit, Black Pool, Rocky Pool and Fingle Weir Pool are among the favourites for salmon anglers. Upperton Weir Pool is the biggest pool on the fishery and probably the most popular for sea trout fishing, especially early in the season. From Upperton Weir down to Clifford Bridge is the largest concentration of salmon pools and pots on the Upper Teign. Access to this beat is via Fingle Bridge at the upper end and Clifford Bridge at the lower end. Beat 3 Approximately 2,550m or 1.58 miles. This is the bottom beat and this part of the fishery is mostly within Dunsford Nature Reserve where the early spring flowering of wild daffodils is a great attraction. Druids Pool is the renowned salmon pool on this beat, but the whole stretch from Clifford Bridge to the end of the beat is ideal for fly fishing for trout. A significant amount of bank clearing took place in 2007 and 2008. Access to this beat is via Clifford Bridge. Access and Maintenance There are full rights of access along the southern bank for fishing and maintenance. Fishing Season Brown trout fishing 15th March to the 30th September Sea trout fishing 15th March to the 30th September Salmon fishing 1st February to the 15th October Please note these catch returns relate to all the Fishing Rights currently controlled by the Upper Teign Fishing Association. It is estimated that the Upper Teign Fishery accounts for approximately 70% of the total Fishing Rights being occupied by the Upper Teign Fishing Association.

Catch Records Holdover The Vendor reserves the right of holdover to allow the Upper Teign Fishing Association to fish until 14th October 2015.
