FSHNG TPS Bluegill, shell crackers, and trophy-sized largemouth black bass are caught in fresh and brackish waters every month of the year. n salt and brackish waters, speckled trout is the main attraction. White trout, ground mullet, redfish, flounder, croaker, whiting, sheepshead, gafftop, catfish, and black drum also offer sport, relaxation, and delicious eating. Spring and fall offer better weather and the largest variety of sport fishing. The usually dry months of autumn often find anglers catching fresh and saltwater fish in the same waters with the same lures and bait. FOR SAFETY... Keep your fishing equipment in good condition. Keep reels lightly oiled and cleaned. Always check your line for fraying and nicks. t's a good practice to cut a few feet of line from the terminal end after each fishing trip. Use recommended knots. They have been tested and work. Most saltwater fish have strong, sharp teeth, making heavy monofilament or wire leaders advisable. Keep your fish iced and clean them as soon as possible. When you bottom fish, it's sometimes advisable to put a sinker on the end of the line with a hook a few inches above. Keep a taut line for better control. When fishing with live shrimp, avoid putting the hook through the black spot back of the head. t's always a good idea when you return from a day's fishing by boat to let your line out free spool from the stern of the boat to untwist. Wash your tackle as soon as possible with fresh water and let dry thoroughly. Don't overload your boat. Have first aid and safety equipment on board. Observe safety rules. Be sure to check weather predictions and file a float plan before leaving.
