AMERICAN LEGION POST #1 1281 N. US HWY 1 TITUSVILLE, FL 32796 321-269-9959 January 2015 www.titusvillealpost1.org Hours of Operation: Lunch M-F Open at 11 Lounge M-S Open at 11 Breakfast and Lunch Sunday-Open at 8 COMMANDERS REPORT: We had another great month at the Post with the various holiday events hope you all had a chance to attend one of them and enjoy the fun! We will be having several events in January--Bartender Appreciation Night and Early Bird Dinner along with all of our favorites Bike Day, Meat Shoots, and Bingo. Please see the calendars for more details We completed several of our facility maintenance projects in December and will be working on applying for the Home Depot Grant beginning of February (we cannot apply until Feb 1). The Home Depot Grant will be to replace all of our fencing with white PVC fencing. Home Depot will supply the materials and our Post members would install the fencing. More to come on when we will need volunteers for the installation! Thanks in advance for your support of our Post. For God and Country, Bill Moore Commander VETERANS VIEWS: How tough was World War II? Most Americans who were not adults during WWII have no understanding of the magnitude of the war. On average, 6,600 American servicemen died per month during WWII, about 220 a day. By the end of the war, over 40,000 airmen were killed in combat

theatres and another 18,000 wounded. Some 12,000 missing men were declared dead, including a number "liberated" by the Soviets but never returned. More than 41,000 were captured, half of the 5,400 held by the Japanese died in captivity, compared with onetenth in German hands. "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." - George Washington NEWS FROM THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION Hello fellow S.A.L. members, Welcome to 2015 everyone! Now that the Holidays are behind us we can start gearing up for another great year. We will be having another S.A.L. Jam Nite at the Pavilion on January 24th at 7pm. The proceeds raised will go toward the Auxiliary Service Dog Project. Everyone is invited to come out and sit by the campfire and listen to some good music, grab a hot dog and have fun. We will have Dee's famous Jello Shots to make the music sound even better. The 2015 S.A.L. Golf Tournament is right around the corner. We have set the date for Sunday February 15th and there are 3 Tee Times available. The sign-up sheets are at the bar. Please sign up with a Foursome or as a Single golfer ASAP. We really need maximum participation to spread the word and make this another huge success. Our Sgt at Arms Lou Napolitano has already gotten the ball rolling and has a fantastic line up of Prizes and Trophies. This event helps our S.A.L. do a lot of good for our Charities and we need you to support it. The Monthly S.A.L. Meeting is the 1st Monday of every Month at 7pm at Post 1. We would really like to see you there. For God and Country, Brad Parsons Squadron 1 Commander Post 1 Help Wanted Bulletin Listings Ron Preacher (321) 745-5405 -preacher@mail.com - Bike Detailing

Thank you Dennis for doing all the shopping, those who donated food and money and Dolly Lussier, Sally Young, Mary Jo Jones, Chuck, Donna Shearer, Carol Korwan, Jolene Freely and Sue Lessard for putting 20 holiday baskets together and helping to load the cars. A good time was had by all and we had lots of good food and fellowship. Renewals for 2015 are at 75% so we still have many members who have not renewed.

I congratulate all the members who got their renewals in promptly and encourage the rest to submit $30 for senior and $6 for junior members ASAP.
