Mastery Approach & Goal Setting. In sport, Responsible Coaches and Responsible Sports Parents work together to focus on effort, learning, and bouncing back from mistakes as tools to reach personal and team goals. Rather than focusing on winning the championship (an outcome goal we can t control), we work with our athletes to focus on effort goals that can ultimately lead to better outcomes. Quicker touches in soccer, crisper passes in hockey, improved set-ups in wrestling. But off the field, 24-Hour Athletes set and work towards goals the same way: a letter grade higher in OHC 1

Administrators in school. It s important to take a loss with class and dignity whether that s the spelling bee, the school spirit competition or even the race for valedictorian. At Responsible Sports, we love Bob s (Bob Mancini) concept of the 24-Hour Athlete that being an athlete is a state of mind and state of heart (if there is such a thing) and not a switch that you turn on just for practice or games. Being an athlete who has learned the value of sports in a Responsible Sports environment hopefully gives our kids the tools, techniques and terms they need to easily translate the lessons of sports to their everyday lives.
