Hopkins Youth Hockey Association HYHA is a member of the District 3 youth hockey community geographically located by Minnesota Hockey. Officially recognized as: District 3 Beltline Hockey League and an affiliate of USA Hockey Associations presently represented: Armstrong Cooper, Delano, Hopkins, Minneapolis, Mound Westonka, North Metro, Orono, Osseo Maple Grove, St. Louis Park, Wayzata HYHA is operated by the HYHA Board of Directors Approximately a 20 member Board that typically meets at 7pm on the third Monday of the month
HYHA Levels of Play House Level Programs Traditionally: mini-mites, mid-mites and advanced mites/u8 s New in 2016: Mite Levels 1, 2, 3 & 4 Mite 4/U8 teams are selected via tryouts and travel locally to other District 3 teams at their respective levels Youth is classified as both Girls & Boys Travel Programs Youth Squirts PeeWees Bantams Junior Gold* Girls U10 U12 U15*
Age Charts & Participation Levels Squirt (July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007) Ages 9-10 Grades 4 TH & 5 TH Typical levels: A, B, C Non Checking Peewee (July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2005) Ages 11-12 Grades 6TH & 7TH Typical levels: A, B, C Non Checking Bantam (July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2003) Ages 13-14 Grades 8TH & 9TH Typical levels: A, B Checking 10 & Under (July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2007) Ages 9-10 Grades 4 TH & 5 TH Typical levels: A, B 12 & Under (July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2005) Ages 11-12 Grades 6TH & 7TH Typical levels: A, B 15 & Under (July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2003) PILOT Season 2015/16 All girls hockey is non checking Notes: Age cut-offs are for the 2016/17 Season Grades listed are typical for student age

HYHA Player/Parent Expectations Time Commitment Pre-season Clinics (Optional/Recommended) Typically begin the day after Labor Day for Travel Programs Last up to tryouts: 4-6 weeks depending on level of play Mite Programs start early to mid September Tryouts (Mandatory) Bantams & Peewees: the last/first week of September/October Squirts: second week of October Girls Programs: varies participants & team levels; mid-october Mite/U8 Programs: end of October Season Length Bantam, Peewees & U12: through mid-february Squirts & U10: through mid-march Mites: through mid February
HYHA Player/Parent Expectations Travel / Out of Town Tournaments Each travel team typically participates in four tournaments Two local tournaments HYHA hosts an Annual Thanksgiving Tournament Two out of town, overnight tournaments that vary in location year-to-year Common Locations: Duluth, Detroit Lakes, Mora, Alexandria, Two Harbors, Winona Equipment & Apparel Equipment: Hanus Sports offers an annual skate program PlayItAgain Sports provides used skates and equipment at reduced cost Apparel: Letterman Sport provides three early season ordering windows to purchase Hopkins Hockey logo wear
HYHA Volunteer Opportunities Parent Coaches HYHA Mite Programs are always looking for good parent coaches The Girls Hopkins/Park Programs prefer non-parent coaches Volunteer Requirements (DIBS) Review the HYHA Volunteer Information on the website Volunteer Requirements: Mite/U8 players are required to complete one concession shift per player. Travel Program players are required to complete three shifts, including one in-season concession shift and two Thanksgiving Tournament shifts per player.
