2015-16 NOTES Rebound Machine Kyra Gulledge recorded a career-high 21 rebounds in the Racers 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech on Jan. 7. The 21 boards are tied for the sixth-most in a single game in program history. Nine of Gulledge s rebounds were on the offensive glass. Keeping It 100 Head Coach Rob Cross is just one win shy of 100 for his career. Cross would become the first coach in program history to reach 100 victories, he is already the all-time wins leader in school history. James Wins Player of the Week for Second Time Ke Shunan James was named the ADIDAS OVC Player of the Week for the second time this season on Jan. 5 after her performance in the Racers 83-79 win over Morehead State to begin conference play. James set career-highs with 32 points and 12 rebounds in the win while shooting 10-of-15 from the floor and 5-for-7 from 3-point range. James also added three assists and a steal in the contest. James was also named the first player of the week of the 2015-16 season on Nov. 17. Career Games Vs. Morehead State Multiple Racers recorded career-highs in MSU s OVC-opening win over Morehead State Jan. 2. Ke Shunan James tallied careerhighs in both points (32) and rebounds (12). While Kyra Gulledge also recorded a career-high on the glass with 14 rebounds. Ajee Smith s 10 assists were a career-best for her. Double the Trouble Kyra Gulledge and Ke Shunan James became the first pair of Murray State teammates to post double-doubles in the same game since James and Netanya Jackson both had double-doubles last season against EKU. James scored 32 points and had 12 rebounds while Gulledge scored 14 and pulled down 13 boards against Morehead State on Jan. 2. Glass Cleaner Kyra Gulledge has been MSU s top rebounder by far this season, leading the team averaging nine boards per contest. Gulledge has a career-high 21-rebound game to her credit this season, as well as a 14-rebound game and four games with 11 rebounds. Wright s Career Day In MSU s 73-54 victory over Evansville, LeAsia Wright scored a career-high 27 points and hit a career-best eight 3-pointers in the game. The eight 3-pointers are just one off the program record of nine made in a single game. Wright hit one from beyond the arc on three consecutive possessions for the Racers to help push MSU to a lead that it wouldn t relinquish. Out of The Gate The Racers are 21-28 all-time in season openers and are 23-21 in home openers after their 91-76 win over Oakland City to start the season. MSU is also now 12-10 in season openers that are played at home. Under Head Coach Rob Cross, MSU is 6-2 in season and home openers. 2014-15 OVC Freshman of the Year - Preseason All-OVC Ke Shunan James was named the OVC s Freshman of the Year last season after averaging 15.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. This season, James has been named to the Preseason All-OVC team, announced in October at OVC Media Day in Nashville. New Faces The Racers welcome seven newcomers to this season s squad, four freshman and three junior college transfers. Bria Bethea comes to MSU from Southeastern Illinois CC, Kacie Fountain is a freshman from Walker, La., Abria Gulledge hails from Holly Springs, Miss., Krystal James transferred from Sauk Valley CC, local product Michaela Manley is from Benton, Ky., and Marshall County High School, Daniella Pisano is a transfer from Lewis and Clark CC and Taylor Reese is a freshman from Macon, Ga.

New Opponents Coach Cross will face-off with four new opponents this season in Blue Mountain (Miss.), Oakland City (Ind.), Central Arkansas and Illinois State. It will be the first-ever meeting with Central Arkansas this season, who the Racers will play twice. Blue Mountain and Oakland City are also first-time opponents and the Racers and Illinois State will meet for just the third time and first since 2001, when the Racers won 65-55. New On The Sidelines MSU has three new faces on the coaching staff this season. Assistant Tony Cross returns for his sixth season with the Racers, but assistants Keisha McClinic and Aubrey Reese enter their first seasons with the Racers. McClinic spent the prior three seasons as an assistant at Pensacola State. McClinic graduated from Middle Tennessee in 2004 and is a native of Stockbridge, Ga. Reese, who was the 2000 OVC Player of the Year at Murray State, was a student assistant with the MSU men last season. Prior to that, Reese spent 13 seasons playing professional basketball in France, Germany, Israel, Russia, Turkey and the Ukraine. The Auburn, Ala., native graduated from MSU this past spring. Former Racer Keiona Kirby is also in her first season as the graduate assistant. Kirby appeared in 102 games for MSU from 2011-15 and averaged 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in her career for the Racers. From Down Under The Racers have an Australian touch to this year s squad as two student-athletes, Bianca Babic and Daniella Pisano are natives of Melbourne. The senior Babic, has spent all four years of her career with the Racers. Pisano is in her first season after transferring from Lewis and Clark in Illinois. 49th Season This will be the 49th season of Racer women s basketball. The inaugural season for MSU was in 1928-29 where the Racers went 5-5. MSU played women s hoops for four seasons until 1932 before taking a 40-year hiatus. The modern era of Racer women s basketball began in 1971-72 when MSU went 7-6. Returning Production The Racers return just over 50 percent of their scoring from last season s squad and 57 percent of their rebounding output from 2014-15. Home Sweet Home This will be the 18th season played in the CFSB Center. The Racers are 136-88 (.607) all-time at The Bank and are 64-38 (.627) under coach Cross. The Racers have 13 home dates this season, including non-conference opponents Oakland City, Central Arkansas, Southern Illinois, Blue Mountain and Lindenwood-Belleville. The Quest For 1,000 Ke Shunan James is 251 points shy of becoming the 19th member of the 1,000-point club in MSU history. James needs to average 20.9 points per game over her final 12 regular season games to reach the mark. James is currently averaging 20.1 points per game this season.
