IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR CATTLE EXHIBITORS DUE TO TB REGULATIONS This year we have changed our procedures to accommodate the rules following last year s changes to the TB ruling in regards to cattle coming from a four-yearly testing to a one-yearly testing area. We are holding the majority of judging of cattle on Saturday 13 May to allow cattle from the four-yearly testing areas to remain on the Showground for less than 24hrs. This will negate any cattle from the 4-yearly testing area requiring a post movement TB test and quarantine on their return to their home farm (assuming of course they move directly back e.g. not moved to/held at a different holding in the Edge Area before returning home). DEFRA spokesperson. We are holding a limited number of classes on Sunday 14 May for the cattle who have come from a one-yearly testing area or for those who are prepared to have a post movement test and quarantine their cattle on return to their home farm immediately after the show. Cattle from a four-yearly testing area will be housed in an open-sided marquee situated adjacent to the cattle sheds. One-yearly testing cattle will be housed in the Sir John Eastwood Buildings, as in previous years. Four- yearly testing cattle will be able to arrive on site from 5pm on Friday 12 May and must have departed the showground before 5pm Saturday 13 May in order to be exempt from a post movement test and quarantine controls. Weighing of Commercial Cattle from the one-yearly testing area will held on Friday 12 May from 3pm to 5pm. Weighing of Commercial Cattle from the four-yearly testing area will be held on Friday 12 May from 5pm to 7pm. Judging will commence at 8:00am on Saturday 13 May and on Sunday 14 May it will commence at 9:00am. There will be a Grand Parade of Cattle in the Main Ring at 3:45pm on Saturday 13 May and also The Parade of Livestock in the Main Ring on Sunday 14 May at 3:45pm. 3

CATTLE HEALTH & WELFARE Tuberculosis and Brucellosis Orders At the date of entry and at the Show, cattle must be from herds which are free from restrictions imposed under:

(A) The Tuberculosis Order 1984. (B) The Brucellosis Orders. Additionally, entered animals must not themselves be under individual restrictions. An animal entered for this Show must not be consigned to the Show if, after entry, either it, or the herd to which it belongs, becomes subject to Movement Restrictions. IBR and Leptospira Hardjo Health status protection cannot be guaranteed for cattle coming from IBR or Leptospira Hardjo herds (elite or monitored) and exhibitors should refer to the Cattle Health 2002 Scheme. Cattle Calving and Abortions on the Showground Animals calving prematurely or showing signs of aborting (e.g. abnormal discharge) must immediately be placed in temporary isolation without moving the animal concerned. This temporary isolation must be provided by the use of straw bales, ropes, notices etc. and a responsible stockperson must be in attendance pending further action by the Show's Veterinary Officer. If an animal calves or aborts before it can be isolated then full precautions must be taken to isolate and disinfect any possibly contaminated standings, bedding, utensils, vehicles etc. On no account must the animal concerned, nor any material from it, be removed from the stall without the authority of the Show's Veterinary Officer. It is essential that no personnel or other animals have contact with any animal that has aborted or shows signs of aborting. The Show's Veterinary Officer must be notified immediately and he, in turn, will notify the Divisional Veterinary Manager. An isolation notice will be served on the owner or person in charge of the animal and a full range of samples obtained. The animal under investigation will remain in isolation whilst on the Showground. Arrangements will be made for any animal subject to an abortion/premature calving enquiry, and for other animals at the Show originating from the same herd, to be returned to the premises of origin as soon as possible. The owner, or his representative, will be responsible for the removal of such animals from the Showground. The suspect animal must be isolated during transit. An animal calving or showing signs of calving at full term must be placed in isolation. Where an animal calves at full term and the owner arranges for a blood sample (Rose Bengal Plate Test - RBPT) and microscopic examination of a vaginal smear and the results are negative then the animal may leave isolation and, at the discretion of the Society, may return to the cattle lines. Unruly Animals All cattle must be secured to the satisfaction of the Stewards who shall have the power to exclude from the Showground any vicious or unruly animal. Animals with a previous record of unruly behaviour should not be brought to the Show. Cattle Passports Passports (CPP 1 or CPP 13) are required for all bovines born on, or after 1 st July 1996, or one of the new style passports known as CPP 52. The passport must accompany the animals and remain on the Showground for the duration of the animals' attendance. The movement to and from the Show should be entered on the passport. Cattle Stewards will collect passports on arrival or soon after. Passports will be returned after the Grand Parade. 5

Ear Numbers Ear numbers must be given on the Entry Form and will be printed in the Catalogue. In case of Pedigree cattle which are identifiable by some other means (e.g. Sketch Card, Freeze Brand or Tag) such information must be given to the Livestock Officer at the time of entry. All cattle, Pedigree included, born after 1 st April 1995, must be tagged in accordance with the Cattle Identification Regulations 1998. It is a condition of DEFRA that the Show shall identify every beast at the Show and an identification check will be carried out at the Show by two stewards appointed for this purpose. Animals identified by Sketch Cards must be accompanied to the Show by correct identification papers. Cattle Accommodation a. Cattle from a four yearly test area will be housed in an open sided marquee situated adjacent to the cattle sheds. One yearly test cattle will be housed in the Sir John Eastwood Buildings as in previous years. b. Females entered with a calf at foot must book an additional stall for calves over four months of age in the Continental breeds (Charolais, Simmental, Limousin, Blonde and British Blue) and any other Pure Breeds, and for each calf over six months of age in all other breeds. c. Sub-letting of stalls is not allowed. d. Accommodation will not be provided for calves entered in the Calf classes since they are required on the Showground for the day of judging only. e. Each Exhibitor's cattle will be stalled together by Breed. Where an Exhibitor has entered cattle in both Breed and Commercial classes: his/her breed will be stalled in the Breed Section and his/her Commercial entries in the Commercial Section. f. Straw is provided on arrival. Any additional straw required may be purchased at 4.00 per bale from the Stable Manager's Office. g. All cattle lines must be cleaned out by 7.00 am each Show day. h. Water is provided to the cattle lines. All cattle washing must take place in the cattle wash area. i. All animals must be double-tied and must be halter-led during judging and parades. Any animals considered to be unruly will be asked to be placed in a position deemed suitable by the Steward. AT SHOW Classes All cattle entered for competition shall be exhibited in the class for which they are eligible on the days of the Show. Stewards have the right to split or amalgamate classes if there are insufficient entries in a class or if a class is oversubscribed. Exhibitor-Bred - Qualification An animal carrying the exhibitor's pre-fix will be deemed to be exhibitor-bred regardless of any embryo breeding issues. Order of Judging Classes in each Breed will be judged in the order printed in the Catalogue. 6

Judging In the event of a Judge knowingly encountering an animal in which he/she has had past financial or breeder interest, it is the Society's practice for the Steward of that Section to arrange for another Judge. Handling of Bulls a) All bulls aged one year and above must have nose rings in workable order. Rings should be in place not less than two months before intended use as a handling aid. b) Bulls must be handled and led in accordance with the Health & Safety Executive Notes of Guidance. c) All bulls must be double tied. d) During the period of the Show that is open to the General Public, mature bulls must not be left unattended. e) All bulls over two years of age must have two handlers in attendance, both in the ring and in the Parade. f) Bull handlers must be aged 18 years or over. Crowd Safety in Cattle Buildings In the interests of public safety, the cattle lines will be closed whilst the main movements of cattle for judging and parades are in progress. Cattle Exhibitors' wristbands will admit them to the cattle lines at all times. This wristband is not transferable and no-one, other than wristband holders will be allowed to enter. Grand Parade a. Exhibitors must ensure that cattle handlers are sufficiently experienced to cope with the potential risks involved and that animals are equipped with suitable restraining equipment. Exhibitors must ensure that young handlers under the age of 18 years old will not be allowed to lead any animal over 15 months of age in the Grand Parade. Furthermore in the case of young handlers, Exhibitors are required to ensure that proper adult supervision is provided by a competent person at all times. The adult must not be leading another animal and must be able to take charge if necessary. b. All 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd placed Prize Exhibitors in the Cattle Classes are required to parade in the Grand Parade. Other prize winners may parade if they wish. Exhibitors must wear numbers and rosettes. Failure to parade renders the Exhibitors liable, at the discretion of the Society, to forfeit all prize money to which he would otherwise be entitled. The Steward will report the numbers of those Exhibitors not brought out. c. Chief Stewards may use discretionary powers to excuse the parading of prize winning animals in the following circumstances: (a) when an Exhibitor has more prize winning animals than attendants. (b) Through illness of an Exhibit as confirmed by the Society's Veterinary Officer. (c) Where an animal is unruly, likely to upset, or be a source of danger to other animals, attendants or the general public. It is the responsibility of the Exhibitor to obtain an exemption. d. The Grand Parade will be held at 3:45 on Saturday 13th May & again at 3:30 on Sunday 14 th May for the One Year Parish Cattle Only.
