ROWING REVIEW The 2015/2016 Rowing season was, once again, one of unparalleled success for the club - one can t help but wonder where the club will be in a few years time should it keep developing at the currently rate! It is both exciting and encouraging to see the enthusiasm amongst the boys for their sport, and especially to hear the word rowing spoken loudly and proudly in the school corridors. Even today, two full months after SA Schools Championships, I am fielding questions and queries, from rowers and non-rowers alike, about our sport. The footprint of rowing at RBHS is growing and to assist in promoting this endeavor we are re-launching a new and improved Rowing Review. The newsletter is aimed at increasing communication with the rest of the RBHS community. This first edition wraps up of the 2015/2016 season. We will be publishing reports throughout the year, with an increase in activity during the season. I trust that it will be both entertaining and informative, and would encourage you to share it with whoever you feel may enjoy reading about our club. With that in mind, I would once again like to thank all involved for a fantastic season, wish you well for the off-season, and I look forward to welcoming all back in a few months time! The 2016 Crabs Dinner was, once again, a fantastic success and an enjoyable evening for all oarsmen, parents, staff, invited guests and old boys. It is always great to see the entire Rondebosch Rowing community under one roof, celebrating the end of yet another successful season. And what a season it was! This season has had it all - From a dominant performance at the Somerset College Ergo Regatta, to a hugely successful intake of new Grade 8 rowers, successful tours to Knysna, East London, Port Alfred and Pretoria, multiple Western Cape Championship titles and an impressive medal haul at SA Schools championships - not forgetting our first ever U19A Gold Medal! It certainly has been a successful season, and a season worthy of an evening of celebration. That being said, it is also a bitter sweet occasion, as we also use Crabs Dinner as an opportunity to say farewell to our departing Matric oarsmen. These are oarsmen that have grown through the ranks at Rondebosch Rowing, from eager U14s to the highly competitive U19s we see today. Not only has their rowing improved, but I like to think that their involvement in rowing has had a large part to play in developing them into the fantastic young men that they are. Tristan Louw, Luc Daffarn, Paskal Wolski, Robbie Schreiber and Mohammed Karbary - thank you for your contribution and very best for the future!

PARENT SUPPORT COMMITTEE The Crabs dinner is not only a place to say farewell to rowers who are leaving the club but also to parents who have supported their sons over their period with the club. Two of these parents were members of the parent support committee and over the years have dedicated time and effort into growing the club and supporting the MiC wherever possible. Greta Engelbreght and Wendy Daffarn have given tirelessly over the years and their presence will be missed on the PSC. The rowing support and fund raising function begins in earnest during the off season with the selling of boerewors rolls at home rugby games and the annual High Tea in September and we look forward to your support at these initiatives.
