Lacy Gregory and Kelli Schkade were named to the all-tournament team, and Stacey Underwood improved her record to 3-2 on the season a er securing two wins. North Texas Storylines Schkade Breaks Out After a 1-for-12 showing over opening weekend, Kelli Schkade had her way with pitchers at the Getterman Classic, going 11-for-19 (.579) with three extra-base hits. Schkade recorded multiple hits in five-straight games, including a 3-for-4 performance against Grand Canyon on February 17. Additionally, she was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts and launced her first home run -- a solo shot to left center -- of the season. Underwood's Gems Senior right-handed pitcher Stacey Underwood tossed two gems over the weekend, en route to two victories in the circle. On Friday against Lamar, she went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three batters in North Texas 6-3 victory in game one of the Getterman Classic. She one-upped herself on Sunday, throwing a UNC-Wilmington opened 2017 last weekend, going 3-1 at the Charleston Southern Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. Maryland-Bal more County carries a threegame losing streak to Wilmington, and a 3-6 overall record. Appalachian State owns a 3-5 record a er a 1-2 showing at the Aggie Invita onal in Greensboro, North Carolina. complete game against No. 23 Baylor, limiting the Lady Bears to two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings. She tallied three strikeouts in the win. Underwood picked up her first career save in North Texas 2-1 victory over Lamar on Saturday. The senior lowered her season earned run average to 3.37, which is tops on the team. Refurbished Craine After fine-tunning her delivery and adding pitches to her repertoire in the off-season, sophomore Lauren Craine is excelling in 2017. In Waco, she made two starts -- one against GCU and one versus Lamar --, and secured her first victory of the season in her 6 inning outing against Lamar, limiting the squad to one run, lowering her ERA to 4.53. Craine looks poised to have a breakout 2017 campaign after an up-and-down freshman season. She should see a heavier workload this season after throwing 63.1 innings in her freshman campaign.

By The Numbers 304 Kelli Schkade raised her batting average 304 points in Waco. She entered the weekend hitting.083 and left with a.387 mark..481 Lacy Gregory leads the team with a.481 average. She went 8-for-16 over the weekend with one home run. 4 North Texas has upset a nationally-ranked Baylor team four times under head coach Tracey Kee. 7 The Mean Green will play seven NCAA tournament teams from last season: Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Wichita State and Texas. 10 Lacy Gregory leads the team with 10 RBI. 13 The Mean Green have stolen 13 bases in 14 tries. They stole 81 in 2016. 11 This will be the 11th year North Texas has played its home games inside Lovelace Stadium, which opened prior to the 2007 season. 6 Six North Texas players have started each of the nine games thus far. 2 Stacey Underwood has tossed two complete games. A contact pitcher, Craine will rely on the stellar defense behind her to continue extending herself deep into games. Tournament Teams Head coach Tracey Kee is a firm believer in building a program through a tough schedule and the 2017 slate epitomizes that belief. The Mean Green will face the last four WCWS Champions (Oklahoma 2013, 2016 and Florida 2014, 2015) in 2017, and has games scheduled versus seven NCAA tournament teams from a year ago: Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Wichita State and Texas. Only the game against Oklahoma will be played in Denton. Youth Of The Nation The 2017 North Texas roster is comprised of 10 underclassmen out of its 15 players, making it the 39th youngest team in Division I and the fourth youngest in Conference USA. Rising To The Occasion Lacy Gregory, a true freshman for the Mean Green, has started every game thus far. Not only has she played well, she is the team s leading offensive producer to this point in the season. She has reached safely in all nine games, and is riding an eight-game hitting streak. The freshman leads the team in hits (13), average (.481), RBI (10), home runs (2) and is tied for the team lead with five multi-hit games. No Place Like Home The Mean Green have found success at home under Kee. Since 2014, North Texas is 41-37 (.526) at Lovelace including a program-best 18 home wins in 2014. On the road, the Mean Green are 23-41 (.359), a mark they seek to improve on in 2017. Climbing the Ladder North Texas head coach Tracey Kee currently sits at No. 32 in Division I with 758 career wins under her belt. Reducing Strikeouts North Texas batters have struck out 53 times in nine games. They are averaging 5.8 strikeouts per game. Gassing Up The Harley After a 1-for-9 showing on opening weekend, sophomore third baseman Harley Perella delivered a couple clutch hits in Waco, including a two-out, 2 two-run double to right-center field against No. 23 Baylor on Feb. 19. Nuevenicki Freshman Nicole Ochotnicki has caught every inning over the course of the Mean Green s first nine games. Extra, Extra The Mean Green picked up their first extra-inning victory of the season, defeating No. 23 Baylor 3-2 in eight innings. Lineup Changes North Texas has debuted a new lineup in each of its nine games. Kelli Schkade, Lacy Gregory, Hanna Rebar, Harley Perella, Hannah Gerecke and Nicole Ochotnicki are the only players to start all nine games, but have been shuffled throughout the batting order. Finish The Inning North Texas staff struggled to finish innings last season, and it has plauged the team to begin the season. On Feb. 12 against Arkansas, five of the seven Razorback runs came with two outs and two strikes. Grand Canyon pushed two runs across with two outs in its 7-3 victory over the Mean Green last Saturday. Uni Swag North Texas has not worn the same uniform twice this season, debuting three new uniforms in the process. Nice To MEet You North Texas will face Maryland-Baltimore Country and UNC-Wilmington for the first time this weekend at the Hampton Inn University Area Seahawk Softball Classic. Twinning Lindsay and Lacy Gregory (Kingwood, Texas) are identical twins, making them just the second set of twins to play for North Texas softball team. Both are listed as utility players, and should see significant time this season. The first set of twins was Jennifer and Jessica Lynn in 2009. Blagg's First Career Start Walk-on junior Grace Blagg garnered her first career start againt Lamar on Feb. 18. She went 0-for-3 in the game. Speed Kills North Texas has swiped 13 bases in 14 chances this season. Kelli Schkade leads the team with four.

Looking Forward Upon the conclusion of the tournament in North Carolina, the Mean Green will return home for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, March 1, against Saint Francis (PA.) Game mes are slated for 3 and 5 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium. North Texas will embark on another roadtrip next weekend, when it heads to Lubbock, Texas, for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial tournament hosted by Texas Tech. Tracey Kee Head Coach Fourth Year East Carolina 90 The Kee File Hometown: Richmond, Virginia High School: Saint Gertrude (Va.) H.S. Alma Mater East Carolina University, 1990 (B.S.) East Carolina University, 1995 (M.E.) Tracey Kee enters her fourth season at North Texas as one of the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division I, boasting a career record of 758-453-1. Hired in August 2013, she became the fourth Mean Green softball head coach in the current era. In her three years, Kee has led the program to record heights and several program records and firsts. The 2016 team set a program record for steals in a season (81) and matched the highest batting average mark (.279). The 81 steals was good for an average of 1.47 a game, the 47th best mark in Division 1. In each of Kee s three seasons at North Texas, the team s defense has been ranked in the top-50 nationally, peaking at No. 5 in the 2015 season (.978). In 2014, Kee took the Mean Green to the most wins in the program s 12-year history with 31 victories. In 2015, North Texas upset No. 7 Baylor on the road in Waco, the highest ranked team that the Mean Green have defeated in program history and just their second-ever top-25 win. And then, in 2016, North Texas received votes in one of the national polls for the first time in school history after knocking off No. 21 Baylor two times in Waco. Under Kee, North Texas has had first-team All- Conference USA selections in three straight years and six all-conference selections overall in three years, including Kat Strunk, a two-time honoree and the 2014 C-USA Newcomer of the Year, the first specialty award in program history. In 2015, Taylor Schoblocher earned Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball National Player of the Week honors, the program s first national award. As a team, under Kee, the Mean Green has set several records, including the most conference wins (14), most runs scored (272), most RBI (242), highest batting average (.279), highest fielding percentage (.978) and fewest errors committed (30). In 2014, Ashley Kirk broke the single-season wins record with 22 victories and single-season strikeout record with 214. In 2015, Schoblocher set the singleseason marks for on-base percentage (.477) and slugging percentage (.833) and finished with the second-best single-season batting average (.389) and second-most home runs (17) and total bases (120). Off the field, North Texas softball graduates Lauren Poole and Madison Thompson were awarded the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship in consecutive years, the first and second North Texas athletes to receive the honor in school s first two years of conference membership. Kee has also coached six NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes at North Texas (Sarah Barker, Mackenzie Grimes, Jami Schkade, Kelli Schkade, Shelbie Smith and Madison Thompson). Prior to North Texas, Kee compiled a 684-362 record in 16 seasons as the East Carolina head coach, and guided the Pirates to four NCAA Tournament appearances including three in her last five years. Kee and her staff were also named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honoree twice. She also captured nine league championships, with back-to-back C-USA Tournament titles in 2010 and 2011. From 2009 to 2011, no Conference USA program won more games than East Carolina s 125. ECU recorded 41 victories in 2011 to become only the fourth team in C-USA history to win 40 or more games in three-straight seasons. Kee s clubs have reached the 40-victory plateau 12 of her 16 seasons. Four times her teams have tallied 50 or more wins, including the 2000 group she directed to a schoolrecord 60 victories. Personally, she reached the 650- win threshold as a head coach in 2011. ECU won its first C-USA titles in 2010, claiming both the regular season and tournament titles before repeating as tournament champions in 2011. In just her first season as head coach in 1997, Kee s team posted a 49-24 record, and she was named Big South Coach of the Year. Two seasons later, in 1999, East Carolina won 50 games and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Under Kee s tutelage, many players have earned allconference and all-region honors. During her time in the Big South, she led 11 all-conference players, two Rookie of the Year selections, the league s tournament MVP, Denise Reagan, in 1999 and the two-time league player-of-the-year in Polonius (1998 and 1999). The accolades continued in Conference USA as Kee s players received 12 first-team selections and 15 second-team honors. Additionally, 14 student-athletes have been named to the all-rookie team with two named the league s freshman of the year. In 2009, Kee led Toni Paisley to Conference USA Female Athlete of the Year honors, becoming just the second softball selection in league history. Kee also helped Paisley to three-straight C-USA Pitcher of the Year awards from 2009-11 and to Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Third-Team All-America honors in 2010. Six players have also received all-region recognition under Kee since joining C-USA. Kee played her high school ball at Saint Gertrude in Richmond, Va., from 1983-86 before a stellar career for East Carolina from 1987-1990. In 2009, she was inducted into the St. Gertrude Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2014, she was inducted into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame. She graduated from ECU in May 1990 with a bachelor s degree in physical education and, in 1995, earned her master s degree from ECU in exercise and sport science with a concentration in physical education.
