3 Welcome to West Vancouver - The Best of the West Coast! The West Vancouver Minor Hockey Association was born as a community based hockey program in 1967 as a direct result of a centennial project in celebration of Canada s 100th birthday which saw the construction of West Van s community ice arena. Hosting this year s Midget Tier 3 BC Hockey Championship is part of our 50 year anniversary celebrations and we are proud to welcome teams from across the Province and the Yukon to our home arena. Our goal is to make this championship a memorable experience for all our guests players, team officials, parents, and officials. West Vancouver is nestled on the lush south-facing slopes of the Coast Mountains on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet and is bordered by Howe Sound to the west, the Capilano River to the east, and the mountains to the north. Several neighbourhood business areas throughout the community serve the needs of area residents and our guests for this year s BC Hockey Championship. West Vancouver is just minutes away from Vancouver and it s easy to get to with a quick trip across the Lions Gate Bridge. It s also right next to Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, as well as close to Cypress Mountain resort, site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. World-class resort, Whistler Blackcomb, is a 90 minute drive. Shopping, dining, coffee and pubs can be found in the Villages of Ambleside, Dundarave and Horseshoe Bay. Ambleside to Dundarave are connected by the
Seawalk, one of the most beautiful urban seaside strolls you will find anywhere (also accessible directly from West Vancouver Arena by walking south on 22 nd Street). At the east side of West Vancouver is Park Royal Shopping Centre, one of metro Vancouver s biggest and best shopping locales. Two of West Vancouver s most beautiful waterfront parks are Ambleside and Lighthouse Park, and families with younger children will enjoy John Lawson Park. 15 PLAYER CONTRACT It is the intention of this contract to promote fair play and respect for all participants within the Association. All players must sign this contract stating that they will observe the principles of the Fair Play Code before being allowed to participate in hockey. FAIR PLAY CODE I will play hockey because I want to, not because others or coaches want me to. I will play by the rules of hockey and in the spirit of the Game. I will control my temper - fighting or "mouthing-off" can spoil the activity of everyone. I will respect my opponents. I will do my best to be a true team player. I will remember that winning isn't everything - that having fun, improving skills, making friends and doing my best are also important. I will acknowledge all good plays and performances - those of my team and my opponents. I will remember that coaches and officials are there to help me. I will accept their decisions and show them respect. I will observe the rules of BC Hockey such as the Zero Tolerance to alcohol and banned substances. I know that if I break this Fair Play Code, I will be subject to governing bodies disciplinary procedures. I agree to abide by the principles of the FAIR PLAY CODE as set by Hockey Canada and supported by the Association. I also agree to abide by the rules, regulations and decisions as set by this Association. PRINT NAME(S) DATE SIGNATURE TEAM NO
16 TEAM ADMINISTRATORS CONTRACT It is the intention of this CONTRACT to promote fair play and respect and respect all participants within the Association. All sport administrators must sign this CONTRACT before being allowed to participate in hockey and must continue to observe the principles of Fair Play. FAIR PLAY CODE I will do my best to see that all players are given the same chance to participate, regardless of gender, ability, ethnic background or race. I will absolutely discourage any sport program from being primarily an entertainment for the spectator. I will make sure that all equipment and facilities are safe and match the athletes' age and abilities. I will make sure that the age and maturing level of all participants are considered in program development, rule enforcement and scheduling. I will remember that play is done for its own sake and make sure that winning is kept in perspective. I will distribute the fair play codes to spectators, athletes, officials and media. I will make sure coaches are capable of promoting fair play as well as the development of good technical skills and I will encourage them to become certified. I will observe the rules of BC Hockey such as the Zero Tolerance to alcohol and banned substances. I will not condone the athletic use of alcohol, drugs or banned performance-enhancing substances. I know that if I break this Fair Play Code, I will be subject to governing bodies disciplinary procedures. I agree to abide by the principles of the FAIR PLAY CODE as set forth by Hockey Canada and supported by the Association.
