I hope you were there because it was a good one. We had approximately 140 trucks in attendance, big and small. I think we may have had more big heavy duty trucks this year versus last year. There was a nice variety of trucks in attendance, which I think made it a really nice show. We had to change things around this year due to the museum putting a library in the lot that we normally put the big rigs, but the new location worked out well,so I don't think there was anybody that was not happy about the parking situation. I think the swap meet and WAPA members liked their new location as well. I think next year will be even better. I want to thank all of the volunteers for all of their help, we couldn't do it without them. I especially want to thank Chrystal Queen and Debbie Leuer for their assistance at our trailer selling t-shirts and signing up new members. They did a great job selling about $2,000 worth of t-shirts. The club ended up grossing around five thousand dollars over the weekend. I'm not sure what our net was, but hopefully we'll be in the black. I also want to thank all the members and participants for bringing out their trucks. I know it is a lot of work. I also need to thank Donna Queen and Richard McNamara for judging the entries. Judging is a hard and thankless job. One other person I need to thank is Chris Caballero, who has volunteered to keep our chapter Web page up and running. It has been out of date for sometime, but thanks to Chris you can see photos of the show winners on line. The Steve McQueen car show is coming up on June 6th. Hopefully you have entered your truck by now. They want as many trucks as we can bring. I hope to see you all at our next event. Don't forget to see Ken Lund's event schedule. Happy Trucking, The Old Iron Express Newsletter is published every two months by the Southern California Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society, a non profit organization. P.O. MESSAGE FROM CHAPTER EVENT COORDINATOR Ken Lund BREAKFAST LOCATION Remember, we moved our 3 rd Saturday of the month breakfast gathering (meeting sounds too formal) to a new location Goody s Restaurant. It s at the Royale Truck Stop just off I-10 between Waterman and the 10/215 interchange. Lots of good food in a casual setting. See you @ 8:00. Bring the old iron for more truck stop atmosphere. They have plenty of room, but RSVP to one of the board members will help make sure there is a table set up for the whole group. Directions: Goody s Restaurant - 551 S. Hunts Lane, Colton, 92324 From I-10 east: Take the Waterman Ave South exit, right on Redlands Blvd to Hunts Lane, Left on Hunts Ln, you will see the restaurant on the right. From I-10 west: Take Waterman exit, Left on Hospitality, Left on Waterman, Right on Redlands Blvd, continue to Hunts Ln, Left on Hunts, restaurant on right. TSHIRTS New 2015 Shirts - We have some sizes and colors of the 2015 design. We have shirts with and without pockets in charcoal, black, tan, and navy @ $20.00. We also have pull-over and zip hoodie sweatshirts similar colors @ $30.00. Last year 2014 shirts. We still have some sizes and colors, also @ $20.00. If interested contact Ken @ 909-790-7707. Idea for Perpetual Truck Club Shirt - We are considering a shirt that would feature truck club members trucks in an American Flag pattern with profile view of the trucks forming the stripes and front views or emblems forming the stars. We would need members to send left and right profile, and front view and emblem photos of their trucks in a digital jpeg format. Let us know your thoughts. PAST EVENTS May 2 & 3 30 th Annual Antique Truck Show Perris Another successful show!! Thank you to all who contributed your time and effort. We couldn t have done it without you!! We met the challenge of fitting all the trucks, swap meet, and WAPA display in less space. The new library occupied some of the area where we previously parked the big trucks and trailers, and the former swap meet space was compromised by construction in progress of a full size rail road switch for MetroLink line in Perris. We anticipate more area will be paved and available for next year s show on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The Saturday Mystery Tour returned to the Elephant Farm. Those who attended were rewarded with a truly memorable experience. The evening BBQ was great, and for most of us it was the last chance to relax before the show. WEBSITE A big THANK YOU to Chris Caballero for volunteering to be our Web Master and newest board member. Check it out @ southernca.aths.org. May 16 Post Event Breakfast Meeting @ Goody s Restaurant Over breakfast we discussed the positive and negative aspects of the show. In attendance were 12 members. Most of the comments were positive. The negative issues were discussed, and should be resolved for next year. FUTURE EVENTS The tentative date is August 15 for our annual Picnic/ BBQ. We are considering several locations, with the final selection to be announced in the July/August newsletter. This is another great opportunity for us to enjoy good food and great company. 2015 SO CAL ATHS TRUCK SHOW WINNERS Saturday March 21 st Trophy Day Orange County 10:00am 2:00pm As usual, our signature trophies came out great. We revised the categories, which streamlined the judging process while still allowing more flexibility in the selection of the winners. 3
