WELCOME HISTORY OF THE CSSL The Canterbury Sunday Soccer League was founded in 1974 by David Bolam-Smith when the inaugural Bolam Cup was played between the eight teams in the League. The top four teams at the end of the Sunday League Season went through to the Semi-Finals of the Bolam Cup. The final that year was played at Denton Oval in Hornby between Whitcoulls and Christchurch Star with Whitcoulls claiming victory and the first Bolam Cup title. In recent history, the Bolam Cup as been contested for by the highest ranked teams in each club via knock out cup rounds through-out the season. The CSSL trophy is contested for by all other teams from the clubs also during knock out cup rounds throughout the season. As well as the Cup rounds each division plays two rounds from which a winner is found firstly on points from wins and secondly form the goal point difference if two teams are drawn. The Bolam Cup and CSSL Trophy knockout competitions have provide some closely fought and entertaining games and I hope that these two finals played at Prebbleton Reserve continue to uphold this high standard of football. Congratulations to the two Bolam Cup finalists, Blue Shirts and Dux de Lux, the Dux de Lux won this cup in 1992 but more recent finals did not go their way, perhaps today might be their day. The Blue Shirts are new to the Bolam Cup finals and so have the opportunity to put their clubs name on the cup for the first time. These two teams were both in the first division this year so this could an exciting and close match. I would also like to congratulate Avonhead B and Avonhead D for making the CSSL Trophy final and for winning their respective divisions. It has been a memorable year for the Avonhead club winning 4 out of five divisions and now having both finalists in the CSSL Trophy, I hope these two teams and their supporters enjoy a memorable day. The CSSL lost a few teams last year due to the earthquake and we were very pleased to add a few more this year to help grow the competition. Next year will be the 40 th year of the CSSL and we hope to keep growing in the future. On behalf of all members, I would like to thank all CSSL teams for their participation in 2012 CSSL competition and look forward to next year. The 2012 CSSL Prize giving Awards dinner is to be held at the Woolston Club on the 29 th September, my congratulations to the League division winners and recipients of awards, I will see you all there.
